Year 40 : Dragonflight

Hey boyz and girls (or them, your choice, i love you all),
We know now that Dragonflight is starting at year 40 on Azeroth.
Shadowland started at year 35.

2 years in shadowlands for chars who want to help to save our world at the biggest of the cosmos level.
3 years (or 5 for chars who dont go in shadowlands) to build something for our background.

How explain that ? How do you all do to explain that for your chars ?

I’m just going with what I’ve been doing the last 3 years in RP, along with “the usual” I’ll just say IC.

I’m not going to start writing stories and miss out a lot of character development, especially when Blizzard has done nothing to show this 3 year jump in the game.

I wish it was longer. Like ten years. There can never be too much time passed since slands. Slands can never be too distant a memory.

Lintian has spent the last two years, since basically the start of Shadowlands, living in peace studying arcane magic in Dalaran. That’s what she’ll continue to do during the three-year timeskip. That’s all.

Yep, i would like more time skipped too.

Will she have learned anything note worthy or spicy?

Distantpeak will have had a son and be used less, he’ll be busy familying.

I just love the idea how when the expansion comes out people willl be like:

“Hey Daeva, haven’t seen you for the past five years. How you’ve been doing?”

"Yeah, kinda gave up on demon hunting for a while to go fishing and live in a cabin up north. How you’ve been doing these past five years?"

“Ah you know me. I’ve just been kinda hanging around the city for the past five years without anything significant happening that compliments to my character, haha!”

I’m probably going to go with the narrative that whatever happened RP-wise inbetween the two expansion packs was just what filled out those 3 years. Minor adjustments to characters of mine, likely, such as being more adept at a magic school they were beginning to re-learn, but nothing seriously big. Only stuff that can be safely “offscreen” inferred.

Probably my characters after the 5 years that suddenly passed by: “I just fell to a deep sleep, Wen i finally woke up i realized i slept too long, too long.”

I do like that idea though.
It’s an opportunity for some character to do a slight make-over, and perhaps get out of the same thing they’ve been doing for the past years.

For Elves and Draenei, five years is just blinking your eyes. But for other races, a lot could have happened during that time.
Finally finishing university, or perhaps filling the blanks with a short love relationship that didn’t went anywhere, maybe the character finally got over that grudge it was holding, or a character suddenly trying to get out of crime and become square, or a priest having become an alcoholic.

Things like that.

“Oh hey, your finally awake”

Yeah, exactly.
Admittedly I have the luxury that none of my OCs are particularly falling into the more “timeless” category, no draenei or elves. I do have a Forsaken, but she is a scholar and a scientist, so the passage of time can be measured in her progress.

Also it helps that I don’t RP in groups where, say, the currently known lore implications would matter much, such as Anduin vanishing for those 3 years.

Robokiller was taken back by his creator for more upgrades to his model. probably he will switch from “Robokiller 2.1” to “Robokiller 4.6” or something. for my other characters i will use this to make something meaningfull happen to them.

Sathrynn may or may not end up fully joining the Kirin Tor or the Alliance, depending on how things go.

“Robokiller was suddenly left aside once the Robokiller 2000 came out, a shinier model with more bells and whistles. But Robokiller had to continue as a cast-away in a world of unforgiving consumerism. Sometimes we could find him begging for bolts or screws, rusting away in the alley entering his memory-drive to search up images of the happier time he was brand new.”

hahaha, he will never beg for bolts or screws! he will never get rusty thank to an auto-oiling system!

For myself though, even though I don’t play wow at the moment; I only had two RP characters I had a good link with and that I actively roleplayed.

Daeva is an immortal Illidari. She’s around 8000 years young, making her born somewhere between the War of the Satyr, and the Exile of the High Elves.
Five years won’t change her character any bit.

However, Blondie, my Undead Mercenary, was only a couple years “alive” without any past memory of her former self. Often she acted quite immature and wild because of this. With five years passing it could be she got quite a lot more mature and professional.

I have actively been Roleplaying away from Shadowlands. My character may not have gone there but has had items and information received from there. I just need to implement some stories for a 3-year skip.

Three years, since two of these five years were spent on the events of Shadowlands.

Yes, finally we have an expansion that actually officially took two years of IC time. Thanks for that at least, Danuser.

(I can’t believe I’m thanking Danuser)

Innoma will just sit around her usual place waiting in vain for a certain Demon Hunter to finally do what she has been told to do
