I think to enter a dungeon you have to PVP another group, winning group gets into the dungeon losers get dungeon deserter debuff for an hour.
People who can’t PVP shouldn’t play a game where PVP and a Faction War are key elements.
I remember trying the D&D online game back when it came out, near enough 20 years ago. It was pretty much only dungeons. And to do a dungeon you needed a warrior to tank and a priest to heal (Paladins and druids could do these a bit but weren’t good at either), you needed a rogue to pick locks and disarm traps, you needed a mage to bypass magical barriers etc. So unlike wow where you’re struggling to find a Tank, in D&D you were spending ages finding every specific role. I wonder why the game didn’t succeed?
I go shopping in “solo” mode irl, but that doesn’t mean I want a completely empty shop.
MMO does not mean “multiplayer instanced content”. I’ve been playing MMORPGs since the old text-based days and you don’t know what you’re talking about frankly.
WoW, I will accept, has a tradition of dungeon and raid and I can see why they put some of that in the story. That’s fine. But the game doesn’t revolve around that content and nor should it.
Why do I want solo content in an MMO? So I can play the game when I feel like and have time instead of always having play according to someone else’s schedule. For example right now looking at my friendlist and guild there is 1 person online and I don’t expect to see that to change in the next 4 or 5 hours. Without solo content there wouldn’t be anything for me to do and the game wouldn’t be worth the sub money… or worth buying in the first place.
Also I’m not sure how a game offering solo content takes anything away from you when the endgame has always revolved around group content. So maybe let others enjoy the solo content while you focus on the multiplayer stuff.
If you want players to be forced to group for every single activity then you best be prepared for a lower quality product as Blizz makes huge losses by people not being able to enjoy the game no more.
Go for it, I encourage it, just be prepared for the consequences.
mmo is a broad genre. Wow is an mmo RPG. Wich is alot different than a mmo shooter like planetfall. An rpg needs a world where you can encounter other people in it and solo content to flesh it out.
Nothing ever stated that a mmo has to be multiplayer stuff only. You still share the same world with alot of other players, so you are still playing the same game with alot of other people.
thanks. this is the thing the “group only players” dont understand at all.
In fairness, you play WoW, an MMO, and then get stuck in either queues or waiting lists trying to get into group content.
If there was more stuff to do that progressed your character but could be done solo, then WoW would actually be a proper MMO. Instead of a glorified lobby.
Massively Multiplayer doesn’t mean everyone is playing togegher, just that they are playing online simultaneously.
saying mmo rpgs shouldnt have single player content is the same thing as saying
“an open world game shouldnt have indoor areas, because the world should be open and not inside a house”
or
“A first person shooter game shouldnt have melee weapons because the name says shooter”
Can I fly dragons (with the existence of a Z-axis)?
u can mod the starcraft II engine and turn it to warcraft 4 add all this stuff
Are you seriously comparing PvP and PvE content being separate to dungeons and PvE who clearly go together?
Grouped content and Solo Content are separate areas of the game. They don’t need to be forced together.
There is no benefit to anyone for having a forced dungeon quest. Nobody gains by it but many are impacted negatively by it. This isn’t a Win / Lose, this is a Meh / Lose situation. No winners, but losers.
This isn’t true. Of course you benefit from people having to go through dungeons to do campaign quests and dungeons allow for more design choices when it comes to how story is conveyed, certain bosses being balanced around harder fights with just 5 players is just one example. On top of that WoW really isn’t making it hard for you to clear these dungeons considering the system does everything for you already (finding a group, teleporting you right into the dungeon) and the game offers difficulties where you can almost completely ignore mechanics anyway (normal mode dungeons, LFR raids). I simply don’t see the reason why people would complain about having to spend 20 minutes in a dungeon every once in a while. There are 2 or 3 dungeons tied to the campaign that currently make you go into dungeons? Maybe 4?
If that bothers you, you simply picked the wrong genre. Go play games like The Witcher or Mass Effect. This is complaining on an incredibly high level.
Who benefits from mandatory quests? Make them side quests and those that like dungeons can do it.
I’ll probably manage to get them done somehow but I won’t enjoy it. I’ll be spending the whole dungeon trying to follow someone so I don’t get lost, hoping that there isn’t an elevator or something to fall off as that’ll mean I have to run back and I won’t find my way.
I will not benefit from this. Nobody else will.
And don’t tell me which games I can and can’t play. I’ve been playing wow since vanilla and I’ll continue to.
I’ve been commenting on the forums about the aspects I like the ones I dislike, and I’ll continue to.
MMOs have grouped content and solo content. I want to choose when and where to group and when and where to solo (as it should be).
I manage just fine on my own
If it doesn’t matter enough to you to consider playing less / quitting the game then my comment obviously isn’t directed at you. It’s your right to dislike it, I just don’t think WoW should ever cater to that, but if someone seriously feels bothered by things like these then they should just not play the game.
Are you angry at something that doesn’t effect you in any way ?
