Your favourite mage race

I find orc mages a pretty cool concept. I see them as a rarity, which I believe they are. And an orc delving in the mystical arts of the arcane is more than interesting for me.

Don’t forget Zanza and Arcanum, mon!

Oh yeah. They have a literal god of sorcery.

HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE THAT!?

I DON’T KNOW. I love Zanza myself… And i think the Arcanum can be a cool thing in RP! Both for elves and trolls… That would be a reason for me to roll a Zandalari mage, to be honest.

Also, Zanza is LOA OF ZANDALAR… You can see his greatness.

Okay

Undead mage best mage

Panda mages.

No particular lore reason really, I just think they’re neat.

Pandaren Mages of Omnia would be cool, the mage/Priest branch of Shado pan.
Thanks for reminding.

Tauren. Because there’s no reason they shouldn’t be able to be mages.

Draenei. They were rocking the arcane waaaaaaay before it was cool on Azeroth.

Zanza is a little :dog2: and he can come fight me.

Btw my favorite mage race is arcanascar.

I… don’t really play mages. But if I did and wanted to RP one, I’d probably go for a draenei and make him more of a spell blade on Alliance. And for Horde, either an orc, just because there aren’t a lot of orcish magi, or goblin.

Goblin and Gnomes.

All other mage races are just filthy, especially elves.

Humans on Alliance, Goblins on Horde.

It’s a good question.
If I were to answer from a personal pov, I’d say three main races: the human mage, the
undead mage (pre-WoD model) and the draenei mage. In no particular order.

  • Humans. Well, human mages have an important spot in the lore: they use magic more as a mean to an end than, say, the elves, whose usage of magic often borders on luxury and decadence. Besides, Medivh is a character I’ve grown a liking to, and so Jaina, so inevitably the human mage kind of attracts me because of that, but also because of the Wise Old Man archetype. Oh, and with the humans, magic feels more something you discover which belongs to a creative mind, than with other races.

  • Undead mage. I like this one because, well, you feel free to go anywhere with him. He was a wizard. He got killed, he has been raised. Why not delve into the dark secrets of previously forbidden magic? Why not take a step into the unknown? Or, even, what value does magic detain, if it weren’t able to save you from death? To that, add the somewhat nostalgic/sorrowful or just subtle themes of undeath, and you really have a concept that captures you. It makes you say: “Where do I go from here?” but in a good sense.

  • Draenei. Well, Draenei are possibly my favorite playable race on paper, because they incarnate the ideal of an enlightened society much better than any other WoW magic society counterparts, such as the nightborne, whose struggles are more about corruption, politics, decadence. Other than that, in my mind the draenei harmonize their grasp over magic in such a way, that no other race on Azeroth ever manages. Their civilization isn’t dependent on the arcane, rather they manage to integrate the arcane but at a somewhat enlightened level, which is something I appreciate.

Also, as others said, I guess orc mages deserve a special mention, mostly because they are this fusion of two different concepts that you can’t help but kind of like, or smile at.

Goblin.

No lore reason or anything other than their motto: “I got the best spells anywhere!”.

Except maybe combining their steam-punk stuff with arcane stuff would have some interesting (and deadly as hell) results.

Orcs because… Iron horde for life.

Horde - I want to say Nightborne, but I have to go with Blood Elf.

High and Blood Elf Mage lore is so beautifully written and the lore in TBC for the Sin’dorei Magi and the struggles they were facing and how they overcame those struggles (through questionable means, yes, but that was part of the fun and the interest.)
The only thing that lets Blood Elf Mages down is Aethas. Aethas is the main dude for Blood Elf Magi lore and he’s…well, just not that interesting. When we’ve got Rommath, yet we’re primarily stuck with Aethas…

Alliance - it’s a toss between Humans and Draenei.

Human Magi lore is solid. There’s no if’s and but’s with it…it’s solid, it works, it makes sense, it’s interesting, Human Mages have produced some great lore characters like Aegwynn. It’s just pure, simply and it works.
Draenei Magi is ancient and has a big ancient background which also works and is also very interesting. The lore behind the Draenei Arcanists’ way of life on Argus, and the lore with the Awakeners and Thal’kiel…it’s all very interesting.

I’d probably give my vote to the Draenei.

I’m going to be very original, and say Blood elves (and to be fair Nightbornes, but I somehow think more rogue when I see them; might just be rp experience) and draenei.
The reasons for both have already be given in details above, I shall not repeat.
