Whats your favourite beginning place? I suppose you can count Exiles Reach if you really must…
Mines Tirisfal Glades. Me and my mate running around like the little nooblets we were and getting slapped at Agamand Mills.

I mean, Exile’s Reach requires far less running back and forth, and I’m a huge fan of that.
Based on the number of times I’ve done it, I suppose my “favorite” is Sunstrider Isle, while my least favorite was valley of trials
The log out screen.
Eversong without a doubt
Teldrassil / the goblin start are tied.
Northshire/Elwynn Forest and Mulgore I love both equally.
Sunstrider Isle,Eversong Woods.The best.
Exiles reach is fast but lacks soul.
And I love having different stories,a sense of individuality between races.
gilneas ad eversong
I like alot of the basic races starting zones. but i think i probably like gilneas and the goblin starting zones the most. But if you talk about vanilla zones then dun morogh or tirisfal for sure
Mulgore, always will.
My very first character was a Tauren Druid, way back when I played WoW on a private server before moving over to the official game a few months before WotLK came out.
And I just adore that zone with its calming music and rolling hills. The death cry of a Plains Strider is just so nostalgic…
But you are locked off the rest of the world till you do the questline there. That is annoying to me. You cant queue for dungeons and pvp when you hit level 10. Also you cant use maibox?
Dun morogh. Yes both gnomes and dwarves sides (only w gnomes will take in years here.) Cool snowy mountain ambience, reasonably fun adventure feeling. But most of all you get to kill gnomes
Pre-cata durotar.
Post-cata elwyyn.
I like Mulgore aesthetically but it sucks to quest in
It will forever be Elwynn for me, probably blinded by nostalgia, but I can still remember getting lost on my way to Fulbrows Pumpkin Patch.
“HOW??” You say? Especially since it’s right next to the road. Well, I read the quest-text, read “pumpkin patch”, saw a few random pumpkins at the side of the road and waited there for a bit. Nothing happened (of course), and didn’t understand where I was supposed to go.
Didn’t see the actual place until I had already been to, and leveled through Westfall and was merrily on my way to Redridge…
I must say “Azuremyst Isle” due to tribalism.
But on a more subjective front, these zones have stood out for me for their ambience, colors and stories:
But I also want to point out that the best “2nd zone” was Westfall by far.
Deathknell.
The thing is…
Most of the ppl just skip the starting zones, cuz we have Allied Races for some time.
Most of the ppl just play as them cuz you start at 10 lvl and skip all the starting stuff.
While you can certainly leave other starting areas for “the rest of the world” the game doesn’t encourage you to do so until about-ish level 10, so the same as Exile’s Reach.
They may have changed it, but it used to be you’d have to be level 15 to use the dungeon finder. I don’t pvp, so not a loss for me.
There might not be mailboxes, but I’m 99% sure you can use Katy’s stampwhistle.
Also, I didn’t say it was my favorite, but you gotta agree it’s significantly faster than going from Sunspire to Falthrien to Sunspire to Falthrien to… you get the point there’s a lot of (pointless) running back and forth in the old starting areas that Blizzard got rid of with Exile’s Reach.
Personally I like that both is an option
My point is, they lock you out in an instance and you cant leave it if you want. You have to do the whole scenario to leave. This is sometimes boring if you do it more than 1-2 times.
The fastest and most enjoyable starting zone for me is Northrend.
Kill 6 wolves, kill 6 spies, kill 8 cobolts, heal 4 injured guys and you are almost 10 lvl in 100x100 metres area.
Well, maybe not 10… then you go to Goldshire for a few quests more.
But in the starting Draenai, Blood and Night Elves ,Undead zones you have to walk around alot.
Humans zone is compact and fast if you want faster leveling, IMO.
Belf first 2 zones. Starting off in eversong, first seeing the big undead scar and then silvermoon city, heading into the ghostlands and finishing it all off with killing that traitor blood elf.
Absolute peak. Cata tirisfal into cata silverpine was S tier as well
