Your gripes with PvP

What do you dislike about PvP? What makes it unfun for you? What makes you not want to participate in it? Get it off your chest here!

For me, a big point of frustration is the crazy amount of CC. I don’t think there is a PvP game out there that has as much CC as WoW.

Not only does every class have an interrupt but they also have a minimum of three other CC buttons. As a healer, I often ask myself what even is the point of trying to bait interrupts by fakecasting when a warrior can simply Stormbolt, Shockwave and Fear me before they have to engage in the kickbaiting mindgame?

When Rogues open on me with Cheap Shot -> Cheap Shot -> Cheap Shot -> Garrote -> Garrote -> Garrote they don’t do any damage but they sure make me wanna press Alt+F4 and uninstall the game.

In my opinion, if they reduced the amount of CC schools or increased Diminishing Returns, the game would be a lot better. And if that would make healers “too free” to heal, they can always increase dampening.

Another point is Arena being the esports mode. It makes WoW look like an indie game. Even though it is a really intense mode to play, a simple TDM is really boring to watch.

I’ve always preferred modes where the winning condition is some other objective than killing the other team. Honestly, I’d find an Island Expeditions tournament more entertaining than an Arena tournament.

In my opinion, PvP would benefit from getting a new esports mode that isn’t a TDM.

The game is just not designed for pvp plain and simple. CC is part of it but healing profiles is also a good example. Most games designed for pvp with healers they have cooldowns on heals or more limited resources.

Think about it, why arena has dampening? It’s a crutch. CC diminishing returns is also a crutch. If the pvp was well designed you wouldn’t need any of those.

All I know is 2’s, and 3’s need a massive overhaul. Since the introduction of Blitz no one really wants to do arena. I feel like it’s a lot easier to balance things like Blitz also because it’s a lot less rock paper scissors.

That it exists and takes resources from important parts of the game. Remove PvP and raiders can have that raid tier they keep claiming they’ve lost :dracthyr_nod:

PvP as in Random BGs and WPvP is what I do most of the time in WoW, so I like it in general.

What peeves me about it though is the insane amount of CC and pseudo CC ingame. Each class has 3+ CCs and at least in BGs, the CC chains often mean that you can die with no ability to react. And it just isn’t fun watching your character not be able to act.

I’m not a developer, so my suggestion might do more bad than good, but personally I would nerf the hell out of CC through DR, so that DR would last a lot longer and it would be impossible to get CCed more than two times consecutively in a short peroid of time.

I love pvp, but i only love OPEN WORLD pvp. All rated instanced PvP modes(arenas, bgs etc) gives me only stress and anger. As a collector who loves collecting illusions, toys, pets, mounts and transmogs, i HAVE TO play instanced pvp to earn elite pvp set reward and 1950 rank illusion reward. Compared to instanced pvp rewards, there is almost no cosmetic reward at all for open world pvpers. That’s what i dislike about pvp most.

Premades
Spamming epic BGs was one of my main activities in WoW, but as Alliance you pretty much only face Premade honorfamers these days and it made me quit PVP for good.

The death of dueling thanks to rock paper scissors.

In ye olden days counter classes/specs did exist, but they weren’t as hard-coded into the game. Today, there is no reason a warrior should ever lose a 1v1 to a spriest. It doesn’t matter if the warrior is 2k rating below you, if they can stand on you and deal damage, they will just win 99/100 times.

I remember standing in Durotar and dueling mages my rating or higher and beating them some time and losing against them some time. Every loss felt fair. Every loss felt earned. Now, winning against rock as scissors feels unearned. You didn’t win - they lost. You weren’t supposed to win, so either they just didn’t play the game and press their buttons, or you abused something to win, like potions or whatever.

In ye olden days you’d use your CC to stop their burst or to burst them but now because half the classes in the game have multiple ways to break some form of CC or stop damage in some way, it simply is a calculation of uptime + cc breaks + cc and whoever is higher in that calculation wins 99% of the time.

Take mage vs warrior as an example. This used to be a duel of the mage’s mana bar vs the warrior’s hp bar and the winner was the mage most of the time (60%+) but the warrior could win by getting up time and stopping casts. Now, mage’s don’t have a mana bar and they heal more than most DPS specs, so applying rend is worthless, as is applying hamstring, as their shield application removes hamstring. Now the go-to against mages it to just charge them and nuke them for 1 GCD, repeat again, repeat with leap, then repeat with bladestorm. If they decide not to press their buttons, you win.

If they have ice block, you just lose. If they have alter time, you just lose. If they press blink fast, you just lose. There is no skill involved and there is no outplay potential.

This goes for just about every matchup in the game.

From the little time I’ve spent playing 2v2, I’d say it would be better if it were a DPS only bracket. DPS + Healer seemed to be the winning comp everytime. If two of these teams met, their burst and CC didn’t matter, the fight always boiled down to which healer ran out of mana first which is unbelievably boring.

For me it’s simply that it is unapproachable. If I wanted to try getting into PvP I wouldn’t know where to begin.

By just queing blitz or shuffle. With these two pvp has been made most accessible than what it has ever been. Even in vanil best way to rank was play ab/wsg in premade. Since added shuffles in dragonflight and blitz in tww its now made entirely soloable for anyone wishing to start. For addons and talents and the like everyone do their own research just like need to do for any other content.

I might not be some PvP Chad and my gripe with pvp doesn’t come from the core PvP Design itself, it’s more or less how due to the Focus on PvE specifically M+ every class now needs everything, Stops, CC, AoE, Burst etc. which just poorly transitions into PvP and it’s tuning.

This is one of the reasons why I don’t like arenas. You can make a one-step guide for healers there:

  1. Pillarhump until you win or lose.

I simply play Blitz instead.

People not understanding out of range, out of sight and when they need to press defensives.

I’ve had so many hunters in the past few days turtle after I’ve used guardian spirit on them or used void shift. It’s ridiculous. Then they die because they don’t have it for later.

Likewise with mages & block. Paladins & divine shield/loh.

Then people pressing defensives as they’re about to die, after they’ve been bursted instead of mitigating the burst.

It’s ridiculous.

Then also the people saying healers are too strong. “CAN’T KILL ANYONE” says DPS and then I don’t notice it at all when I play DPS myself, people are often dropping from almost full hp between GCDs before healers can even heal them and then DPS claims healers make people immortal. You die slower in CS sometimes than what you do in WoW and they think people are immortal when there’s a healer nearby. Absolutely stupid. Then when people don’t drop that quick, healers become unable to play the game because of all the CC thrown at them, they need to seriously consider merging more DRs into each other, it wouldn’t really fly that well in other games to be locked out from taking actions for 15+ seconds.

That doesn’t happen unless the DPS aren’t pressing stops or interrupts or damage CDs. You can kill someone between globals even with 2 dps, some(mm hunter) dps specs can do it alone. 4 dps is unhealable, 4 dps with CDs focusing same target should absolutely delete someone or they are doing something wrong.

my biggest problem with pvp is its match making system and combat addons.
this makes the game so unbalanced
like premade vs random low people in bgs.

2: Combat addons that tells you everything and giving all kind of combat info about your enemy in arena and bgs.
3: with each new expansion they make pvp limited and smaller.
like this season of pvp we got everything but in the other hand they removed the modern guns that can dismount people fast .( like what we had in dragon flight)
made druid immune to the old gun when you want to dismount them in their fly form on the ground.

pure garbage policy in pvp.

I dont like PvPers because they claim "come healer, we need heals in PvP come if you want to try :slight_smile: <3 "

and after 1-2h of playing you recieve rude words, toxic behavior because as a newbie or amateur you re not playing in PvP as a pro as they expected.

I let kids playin between kids.

i like how 50% of your posts here is calling other people like worthless or retarded (including calling me a while ago) and getting happy from the pain and suffering of other people and then talking about toxic people in pvp :pinched_fingers:
