Your level-up 'route' for alts

I level a lot of alts, and I know a lot of people do too, but frankly I almost always take the same route, which is:

Elwynn - Westfall - Redridge - Duskwood - STV both sides complete (love it) - Western. Plague - filler zone until 58 - Outland until 70 - Northrend until 80 - Pandaria (never cata) - WoD (shadowmoon then treasures - Legion ( Highmountain and stormheim) - BFA, which I start in Drustvar.
You can see I have more of a ‘classic’ route, maybe because I started out way back in TBC.

While leveling I do about half of the dungeons once, for the quests. No pvp.

So I’d like to know your ‘route’. What zones are an absolute must for you, the zone you look forward to each time you level an alt (for me it’s STV, whole outland, Howling Fjord and Jade Forest).

Queue dungeons as a tank, end up around 110, start bfa

I sit in queue for arena skirmish and bgs for 20+ minutes and then realize pvp is dead and log out

Quest until I am of a dungeon level, spam dungeons until queues get really long then quest and queue. Though often I just queue and do the forums or peruse the internet.

It’s easier with a friend esp if one of us is doing the healer/tank role, queue is so much faster.

Starting area until lfd. Then dungeon queue 'til start of most recent expansion, then questing in the most recent xpack.

I don’t have a set route early on tbh except I always do eastern plaguelands, dunno why but I love that zone and story.

I choose northrend over outlands for 60-80 as outlands give me migraines. Tend to spend most of the levelling in sholozar basin.

At 80 I go pandaria and just follow the story.

In WoD I do garrison zone as I don’t have flying so its just easier.

In Legion I do either highmountain or val’sharah as they are the quickest.

In BfA for alliance i like stormsong valley and drustvar and for horde I like vol’dun

Dungeons until 90, WoD bonus objectives until 100, Legion invasions and questing in Val’sharah until 110 and then spamming island expeditions to 120.

Alliance route

If non AR, do starting bit. Then head to elwynn
If AR, head to elwynn and do it.
Redridge.
Loch Modan (ding 60)

If healer or tank, head to SW flight trainer, Q dungs till 70, buy epic flying then Q/quest in borean.
If DPS, Q/quest in borean. Set HS to SE, hearth back at 70, return and repeat.

80, jade forest, will hit 90 before the zone is done (about halfway)

90, I have no fly, finish scenario to get garrison, head to gorgrond, do initial quests and close follow up quests then do all bonus OBs, hit 100 in about 90 minutes or less from starting the scenario. Gorgrond is insane. The exp from quests is like 50% higher for no reason, and the bonus OBs are all very close together in a nice circle route.

Legion, no flying again, do val’sharah, Q for dungeon when starting aszuna, turn in dungeon Q when it will ding me 110.

BFA, I just pick a zone and do every quest in the zone, any incursions if up and then if I’m done and not 120, I do the war campaign bits to finish off. Never needed more than one BFA zone in this way (I get about two thirds in if I get at least one incursion)

I’ll have to check my warlocks /played as I dinged her on the above route religiously without any mucking about but I have no idea how long it took and I logged her upon hitting 120.

The only thing I always do is unlock my garrison and will often fly around finding some treasures. That is still super fast atm.

I have 2x120 and 1x110 lvl boost still available. I don’t level alts.

I can definetly second that. You’ll be able to buy an exp potion at the garrison and then level super fast by just collecting treasures and doing the bonus objectives.

There’s a guide here:

I don’t think it’s updated for BFA and the exp buff we have currently, but the main concept stays the same and those routes still work great.

There’s also a skip to get you to your garrison without having to do the intro.

I have to start from scratch so i still have around 20 characters to create and level, I’m wondering if there are popular leveling zones in which i can find Wpvp, similar to stv and whatnot in Classic

Just checked my locks /played using my above route, 24 hours 33 minutes to hit 120, not terrible for lacking flying in WOD and Legion and not having dungeon auto Q rights!

  • quest until lvl 15 if not allied race
  • dungeon spamming until wod
  • dungeons and bonus objectives in wod
  • wait for timewalking to get from 100 to 110
  • alternate timewalking and islands from 110 to 120

If queues get too long, I simply log off. I hate questing in this game.

I don’t have a must have zones or routes. For each alt I try to get the route that is as much different as possible from the previous character I leveled up. It adds variety, it lets you see more quests and it’s less boring when you don’t go through different zones each time.

I was waiting for this to appear
Tho if you are a die hard altoholic it can be very expensive.

I find questing in some zones like grizzly hills extremely relaxing.

Meh, luckily i don’t have that many characters on 120.

Personally any kind of questing is unbearable without netflix for me.

Whatever fits the lore, what kind of monster takes their Nelf/Draenei to Elwynn?!
