Your most memorable buggs in WoW over the years?

I will start with:
“Additional instances cannot be launched” madness.

“The ice stone has melted!”.

Pureblood fire hawk having for one week 100% drop chance on normal difficulty.

The release of merciless gladiator for honor currency, the battlegrounds were on a next level kind of bugged mode due to increased traffic with for example Arathi Basins starting with the previous games team still inside it resulting in 30 hordes vs 15 alliance for my part.

The good old falling through the floor into the abyss.

Undercity elevator. They should have never fixed it.

We’re going back a fair way here but the Corrupted Blood bug in Vanilla that spawned a game-wide epidemic. Probably the most famous bug in mmorpg history.

I remember reading an article about some scientist who used the corrupted blood bug as a base for how diseases spread in the modern world

Yes, it has become a case study for disease management as well as social interactions during a crisis. The actions the community took during the epidemic closely reflected what might happen in real life, plus showed the results of those actions.

Except for those that intentionally got infected which I doubt any stable person would want, especially for the sole purpose of spreading it to others.

I could see people already infected trying to make their last moments more “euphoric” by spreading a deadly disease if they knew they could.

Was back towards the end of WOTLK, You could kill yourself near the then closed Hyjal and since some Cata assets were in game you would spawn at the Hyjal GY with a then new Ghost Gryphon.
Anyway if you you flew back to your corpse you would keep the Ghost mount upon ress, letting you fly around Azeroth in WOTLK. Felt good exploring before other people.

Its acctually a well documented behavioral phenomenon irl. For example there was “typhoid Mary” an asymptomatic(not effected) carrier of typhoid fever who even after being identified and to not to work as a cook to stop her infecting people still did. In the end she is believed to have caused 50 deaths though her actions. A much more contemporary example is HIV where people will lie or falsify a test to deliberately spread it and its even sometimes sought out in ‘bug chasing’, Where people deliberately go out of there way to be infected.

People are weird when it comes to infections. But in the case of corrupted blood the fact it was virtual and had little drawback over all to a person probably insensitivized actions that otherwise would have been a lot rarer in the case of an irl deadly infectious pathogen.

among my favorites are pally’s soloing kazzak in vanilla
That dk that solo’d lord marrowgar in wotlk
stag stacks and of course

The Ice Stone has melted!

I’ve never enjoyed WoW bugs. The fun ones got fixed before I became aware, the annoying ones lasted for years.

The Light`s Hope Chapel bug. It still works. You can go to New Dalaran and Broken Isles with your lowbie. Its really usefull for my 20 lvl Starter Edition PvP twink, cuz I can go and hang out wherever I want while Im waiting for RBG to pop, by using the portals.

Although I have not played that long, my favourite bugs are when someone in raid stays mounted during combat.
Best was a friend, Nightborne MM Hunter in Legion.
Just watching that elven Archer shooting while on back of slow moving panther, looked so epic.

Here are some pet bugs OK… or funny behaviour.

Land on a flying mount from a flight master and the pet will spawn when you land. However use your flying mount and land and the pet is no longer there.

Thandol Span and go in the tiny area to do a dig and the pet will follow you in. Come back out and the pet will not follow you out. Instead he runs all round the wall through the structure, inside the bank around the tower and pops out from nowhere. Rinse repeat and man does that make me laugh. He only has to jump like 2 feet but he can’t.

The pet did use to refuse to get on any boat. The worst was the boat in Feralas.

Run over the log just prior to this area and the pet will follow. Jump onto the road and he runs back along the log jumps onto the bank then runs through the water and onto the road. He can’t jump just a foot.

Strangelthorn and one of the temples. Climb the wall and wait, and wait, and wait and after a long long long long while your pet will eventually run all along the top of the wall… to find you. Now even if you have completed the tiny raptor quest and the tiny raptor has been returned to its master, each and every time you enter the small troll area by Grom’gol the raptor will spawn. Now have fun flying anywhere, running anywhere cus he’s on a very long bit of string and cannot break it. Only in Strangelthorn… Now take your pet tabby and the tiny raptor and go back to the temple and have fun jumping on and off the wall cus its hilarious just how long they both take to travel through the walls to finally get to you. Then jump off the wall and they run all the way back along the wall. Its a race. It busts my sides.

OK not a bug but poking a scunk till it farts has to be the funniest thing in game. I’ve mentioned that before here.

The amazing disappearing cat. Take him on the lift in Org and nine times out of ten he vanishes into the platform. Its great fun getting him to balance right on the edge. He also is able to balance in space. He sometimes is sitting three feet above the ground, asleep.

The seagull in Tanaris… still there sitting in space. No pole or post. But he sits there in space.

The amazing flying signs. In Arathi by the stones with the wind elementals… The sign still has its arrows like 20 feet into the sky.

I thought bugs were deliberate to keep you on your toes. Like mobs that make sounds the other side of the wall that they are actually on. Or the elite that you have to kite a long way from the wall cus if you kill it where it stands it will not drop anything cus it thinks its an the adjacent zone.

In cata, my hunter’s bear had 4 dragon aspect buff from dragon soul final fight even out of raid or in orgrimmar. It had more hp than our tanks and more HPS more than its max hp. Relog, dismiss… nothing worked.
I made ticket about it and they fixed it in 1-2 hours.

Undercity elevator. I loved falling through it. Had a nice chat with a GM while dying in the air above stonetalon as the map said. It was fun!

Oh, and that annoying bird in shrine of the two moons. Occasionally, when you#re stand with a lowby in the portal room, it will spawn out from nowhere and kill you. Again and again and again. And again.

I once died in Gilneas and ended up being teleported to the worgen starting zone on my max level char.

There used to be many raid-boss bugs before PTR servers. People entered raids at launch day with zero clue what to do, with many bugs. The most famous bug exploiter to get world first kills was probably Nihilum- later known as Ensidia.

Their most famous exploits was Lady Vashj in Serpentshrine Caverns: It was something about when everyone in the raid had wiped the boss got stuck and didn’t reset, so they Soulstoned a healer who ressed everyone. They all then killed the boss which didn’t attack or cast any abilities at all.

Also there is The Lich King in ICC. They used Saronite bombs so that the platform didn’t get destroyed, so when the val’kyrs grabbed players they didn’t have to dps them because the val’kyrs dropped players safely where the platform would otherwise be destroyed.

The zombie invasion in Wrath (I think it was Wrath) and the completely dead cities that resulted.

Maybe that wasn’t a “bug” but it resulted in a lot of people not bothering to login because they could’t get anything done in Origrimmar.

I remember fighting a boss in HFC in legion and for some reason my cooldown abilites refused to have a cooldown and i could spam them. i felt bad and like cheating and died on purpose and restarted wow and the bug was gone and i didnt even know why it was there nor did i ever discovered that again.

The infamous “orc shoulders” bug that happened during TBC and lasted for a few weeks.

It was a pure cosmetic, yet hilarious bug that caused orc shoulders to appear shrinked and caused a huge outcry amongst orc players.

It was fixed, but the incident was even hinted at in one of the April Fools patch notes. (I cannot for the life of me find a link to previous April Fools complete patch notes)

The most annoying/fun bug i came across is dated back in Vanilla in WSG.

On the alliance area, on the top floor, you were able to get into a position which was difficult and none could make it. So after having the flag and you knew this bug, none could get you because you LoS them.

Once, i abused this bug being on the alliance side and i had like 10 hordes 2 meters away and couldnt do anything. So when my team killed their flag, i frost nova’d them blinked into our flag and won the game 3/2.

I got a message from a GM 10 minutes later saying i am not suppose to abuse the building…

didnt make sense because others could do it as well but didnt know xD
