You've made Dishonorable Kills 100 more punishing than the original system. You've also done that by accident, here's the details

With civilians in the middle of ashenvale while warzone pvp events occur, there’s an odd situation where I’m morally obligated to kill the civilian and eat the DHK, so that the rest of my 40man raid doesnt get it by accident when they pass by. (I’ve finished ranking.)

Now it’d be one thing if you intentionally designed it that way. However, in the past years, you’ve accidentally made dishonorable kills rewarding, and last september you’ve patched, and went too far the other way, making it roughly x100 times more punishing than in original vanilla.

Here’s the fix you applied.

As per blizzard :

It’s not our intention to reward players for gaining dishonorable kills. To remedy this, we’re making a change to the way we reward points for a player’s current rank during weekly calculations.
Rather than rewarding players with credit for the entire bucket, you will now only earn up to the amount you’re missing from that bucket. There should no longer be a benefit from lowering one’s rank via dishonorable kills to earn progress more quickly.
For each player-character’s current Rank, weekly PvP contribution calculations now only award up to the amount of contribution points missing in progress towards the next Rank threshold.

Since you’re now always at the bottom of your “threshold”, that means that you’re always in a position where attaining a single dishonorable kill in a week, puts you before the “threshold”.

And therefore, having rank 2 99% after a dishonorable kill, is just like being knocked down to rank 2 0%

And being knocked down to rank 1 99% after a dishonorable kill is the same to being knocked down to rank 0, losing a week of time, in case you’re a casual player trying to catch some rewards.

If you do kill ~100 civilians in the same week however, you don’t get any extra punishment. The punishment is the same as getting 1 civilian killed (by a member of your party, even.)

Back in vanilla, having 99% of progress did push you further ahead, therefore a civilian was indeed a 1-2% penalty of your rank. Now it’s 100% of your rank, depending on your reached threshold.

So blizzard, why don’t we just fix or remove this archaic system altogether? Penalties for killing npcs were removed in TBC. You’ve modernized the pvp system in classic already, there’s no reason to keep this old relic around.

Make it at least so that only the person landing the killing blow on a civilian is responsible and receives the penalty only, not all the 40 people in the raid group.

just delete this system already, it is so bad. It was intended to prevent NPC griefing, now it is an incentive to kill NPCs to grief players.

Try visit Gnomeregan as a horde, on way to entrance you find the most civilians there is, its like they put every civilian in world and turned them into gnomes and added them there. Only for Horde ofc.
