Yrel , Butchered character or setting future story

So a character I thought was a great new addition in Wod who had a slightly janky story thanks to most of the shattrath questline being cut.

Then we had the maghar scenario where she is now supposedly a light dictator.

Going forward do you think they will redeem her character or have they just hit her with the villain bat?

Bellular did an interview with steve danuser and he said we will likely see yrel / draenor again.

They are very much setting up ‘the dark side of the light’ (pun intended).
So yes, I think we’ll see her return as a ‘villain’.

I was very very very disappointed with Yrel when I did the Mag’har story. It’s a big contrast to the Yrel I rescued in Shadowmoon Valley and watched develop and grow.

The mag’har recruitment questline, in a way, “soft retconned” WoD by severing any link between AU Draenor and Azeroth. This felt like a not-so-subtle acknowledgement of WoD’s failures, and an attempt to scrub the lore clean of the implication of alternate universes.

If we see Yrel again, I very much doubt it would be on AU Draenor, because Blizzard seems intent on burying WoD and all of its contents. Will she somehow transport to our world, in time for a “Light villain” expansion? Possibly. Will she be a major character? I doubt it.

Yrel being the reason AU Draenor was abandoned in itself almost feels like a meta acknowledgement of the initial player response to Yrel; that being, a lot of players disliked her, or found her annoying, or overpowered.

We didn’t get much context. We might dive into what exactly lead to all of that stuff. Or they’ll just glance over it and make her a moustache twirling villain. I mean, it’s Blizzard.

I mean you can go watch the interview yourself if you want on bellulars channell, he literally says we are going to see yrel again so…

You must be new here if you take Steve Danuser’s word seriously. How many characters now are supposedly going to become relevant again “SoonTM”? Don’t get your hopes up.

Do you have a direct quote?

it kinda feels like they just threw her under the bus to paint the light as evil, however we might just be hearing a biased view from the maghar

well yeah, think if we se yrel it is on Azeroth, and I think it wont take to long, maby in this expac already or next one.

My theory is that now whit Turalyon at the throne, and if he realices what has happend whit Anduin, I got a feeling he will do what ever it takes to stop the void or the Jailer to reach Azeroth, meening if he knows about yrel or if someone tells him about it, he might open the gate to Draenor and create his own army of light whit the help from Yrel. and then we have an light expac or so.

can you give some examples of characters he said that for that hasnt come to pass?

Drop the quote.

I think dictator is a bit much. She’s more like a brainwashed puppet of some unknown prime Naaru out there.

Not that it makes things much better for her.

Bellular : So what do you think Yrel’s up to these days?

Danuser : One of the things we tried to do with that maghar orc storyline where we got to see, that the conflict between yrel and her forces, and grommash and his orcish forces didnt just go away so clearly theres some more story to tell there.

Thats definitely a story we will be playing out.

I can link the whole 25min video if u want.

That isn’t really a confirmation that we will be seeing Yrel again, or even so soon. Remember that AU Draenor’s connection is severed, making it impossible to go to and from there anymore.

Steve’s comment is more of a “never say never” as opposed to an outright confirmation, which Blizzard is notorious for.

except for the fact he says this is a story thats going to play out literally in the interview?

Theyve been setting up a light based antagonist since atleast legion and the maghar scenario was actually supposed to come later in bfa than it did.

You can say yrel wont come back but its pretty obvious they are laying the groundwork for it, they even had denizens of draenor flee into the barrens at the end of the maghar scenario. ( botani /saberon )
