So… Thought I’d level a holy paladin, mess about in pvp and stuff. But first deciding on Loas.
Paku with 4% crit seems ideal for holy as crits are great but as i sit here at level 20 spamming “abilities” never seen it proc once despite the
“Your abilities have a chance to grant you 4% Critical Strike for 12 sec.”
Other Embraces clearly state damaging abilities, therefore, I’d assume heals would proc it too but I’ve spam healed for minutes no proc.
Akunda is the same, spammed for like 5 minutes never proc’d.
It says they are tuned to 1 ppm (procs per minute).
Which means it should be up 12 seconds out of every minute (or 20% of the time), assuming you are using abilities often enough to give it an excuse to trigger of course.
Personally i would try clicking off every single buff you have on you (to rule out conflicts) and then smacking a training dummy for a bit to see if it triggers at all.
One thing i can think of is , perhaps you have less than 25 crit ? (idk whats a normal amount for a level 20 character nowadays). Because 4% of 25 crit = +1 crit, so if you have less than 25 crit the buff might decide that it may aswell not trigger instead of triggering and giving you +0 crit. Just a thought.
The wowhead guide on the subject says Pa’ku and Akunda are the 2 options for Holy Paladin specifically, and about equal in performance, so yea it should trigger.
I can’t speak for the Zandalari one in particular (haven’t made one yet), but racial abilities are always quite low intensity.
Most of us see the Character race as a (largely) cosmetic choice, and if there is a wide gap in performance of the same class between races then that kind of undermines that.
We’ve historically had that problem quite a few times, like when the Undead racial functioned as an extra pvp trinket on a seperate cooldown, making it very strong in arena. As a result, myself (and probably many others) kinda felt “forced” (well ok, just heavily nudged) into choosing undead as race for my pvp character, even though the spine-sticking-through-the-cloak at the time drove me crazy .
The proc isn’t based on crit so that shouldn’t be the issue as it grants 4% critical strike “chance”

I tried Ret and it proc’d almost instantly.
Hhmm, something is off, made couple paladins, re-embrace paku and more.
Hhmm, i guess we’ll see if i go ahead with Zandalari Trol.
