Zanzil's Slow Poison - another potentially but actually unfun item?

I tried it out, on a bank char. It stays for maybe a day or so and then next time I log in, the debuff is just gone.

If it actually worked as it apparently used to, I am also wondering whether a char would immediately die on logging in if the timer has expired, since I’m pretty sure the timer is meant to be realtime.
