The thing that made rare hunting work from Argus all the way to Zereth Mortis was that some were soloable and others were not. So even if you are alone, you can start doing the ones you can, and if mutiple people are doing this activity, they’ll meet up and eventually do the harder ones too.
But with all the mobs in Zaralek Cavern having 16K HP, therefore needing multiple people, nobody even cares to start flying around and do stuff, let alone wait near one for someone else to arrive. Therefore, nobody ever does this content.
Same with the “Researchers under fire” event, I kind of wanted to do it, but there was never enough people (after the first week I assume), so there was never any success, and now I’m not even checking anymore. I imagine it’s the same for everyone.
With the Researchers under fire, I join a group, that way at least you are doing it in a 40 man raid and it always gets through all the stages. There are loads of groups up earlier in the wow week and the weekend.
The changes to the rares in Zara Caverns does seem to have had a detrimental effect on how many are doing them. Being able to do them with less people would be a welcome change.
Best advice for this is do it on reset day. Straight up, check your vault, go do this event, whatever time of day that is. That’s when people are keen
Or as Puny says, the group finder can help.
I don’t like that they made the rares a weekly loot lockout - that’s completely bombed participation out. Seems like people were probably using them to farm drake crests rather than going to M+ 6-10 keys, but fun was detected and quickly stopped. They should at least have the rares drop 3-4 fragments instead of 1, if they are to be weekly - but even then the problem is that they’re not grindable, so there will be times when nobody else is around.
After I’ve become max renown with Loamm Niffen, I’ve stopped doing more things down there, as there’s really nothing to catch up on.
Neither loot nor mounts are worth going after, and not rare’s at all, as they don’t drop anything useful
Yeah, altough there is that one achivement that you should kill all rares under the effect of some specific debuff… Idk, but at this point, this will probably be something better left to be done during the next expansion.
Something needs to be done. In ZM it worked much better. People killed rares all week and most times if someone mentioned it in chat, a lot of people would go.
In Zaralek, I’m left looking at a rare with no-one coming even if you link it in chat or look for a group. I don’t know what’s changed except maybe we’re not sharded with so many realms now … but I have no idea how I’ll finish the achievement.
I wanted to farm 2 rares down there for the drake customizations on the Winding Slitherdrake, I couldn’t find anyone to do it with. Made a group in group finder and linked it in chat, after 30 mins no one came
I do hope they do something about them, it’s not nice.
If they have 16k hp I think they seem killable solo…
I did complete that Researchers Under Fire once for Aid the Accord 3 weeks ago. Aid the Accord doesn’t reward gold anymore so it is waste of time + Researchers Under Fire is extremely boring activity, it was my first and also the last time doing it, never again. It is dead activity.
I think they opened the Caverns too soon after the Forbidden reach. No one are killing the rares on the reach which means I cannot get the keys together to do the doors thing (can’t remember name) downside of not rushing through content I suppose.
Yeah, usually this is mitigated by the fact that (part of the) rares are soloable - especially with new season gear, but the Forbidden Reach’s rares are also way too strong for this to be viable.
Well, some are, I killed the Marowak one in Forbidden Reach alone which also has 14k HP, but it was so boring, took like 10 minutes. Questionable whether it can be considered viable for soloing.
The problem is that zaralek cavern has nothing do to.
The reason why rares worked in zones like korthia is because people were out in the world questing and hunting treasures. Rares were an organic supplement to the zone.
The other thing thats different is the rewards for killing them, or lack there of.
If you dont need drake crest fragments, they dont really have anything to offer.
And even if you do need them, with having to get 15 of them per upgrade, and each slot having multiple upgrades, its just gets old.
I do need drake crests and im just buying them each week at this point because its a better use of my time.
Then add on top of that that you cant solo them. So you show up and no one else comes. Its only a matter of time before you stop showing up too because whats the point when nothing is going to happen?
And then finally, they decided to add a lock out to killing the rares just so that the last few people who cared, couldnt keep doing it.
So you have a zone with a severe lack of content, rares that are not rewarding to kill, a long lock out so that people who have done it that week wont help you, and no way to go it alone.
I think the best iteration of this model of content was MoP. There were rares all over the place that were soloable and dropped good rewards such as gear (blue quality cloaks etc.) or interesting items such as the Crystal of Insanity. These rares were generally soloable although you needed to be max level and some had mechanics that needed to be avoided or interupted (not just target dummy damage sponges).
As well as these rares you then had the world bosses like Sha of Anger or Nalak etc. Here you got mounts and similar and of course you needed a group.
But the main point here is that these weren’t the Main content of MoP but were side content there to do when you were out doing your dailies, fishing or mining.
