Zekvir's lair difficulty issues hardest mode, wont let me put two?

605 Guardian druid here.

Switched to feral as it’s impossible to put out enough dps to get the eggs down as guardian.

Few issues I’ve noticed that i feel either need fixing to make this possible or addressing because if these are intended them I’ll have to roll another class just to do this kill.

  1. Feral dots seem to be doing little to no damage on eggs, a full set of rip + rake + wild vine + Moonfire + Swarm wont even do half hp of an egg.
    That means you’re restricted to either spamming bite in hopes of a crit or convoke.

  2. Convoke EVEN with boss on the other side of the room is trying to prioritise hitting the boss. I can be right in the corner with zekvir in narnia casting fear and ill hit convoke and it’s just a roll of the dice. Either ill 100 - 0 the egg in a split second, or ill do less than 1m damage and my spells will try and go to the boss.

  3. Zevir casting slams that are invis for the first 0.5 seconds of his cast. This is the most frustrating one as when you’re at distance it’s impossible to dodge if you don’t instantly move, he will start casting his slam while spinning and you will see nothing then suddenly it will appear half way casted right ontop of you.

  4. 4 Portals can spawn in phase 2 perfectly blocking the egg spawn, as in you can’t leap / charge in without being forced into a portal and you can’t get close enough to damage the egg from outside of them so if you get that the run is just over. Have had this three times now at sub 50% hp

  5. The web he casts to suck you in does not respect the way he is facing at all. I’ve been hooked through his back numerous times.

There also seems to be leeway in favour of the boss with the spit attack where i’ve shifted form instantly and still taken spit damage combined with an auto in the same tick resulting in 5m+ instant damage.

Yeah, it’s not made for tanks/healers. Unfortunate.

I don’t know how feral works but at your item level you might want to do more than dots. Save a small cooldown for that, if possible/needed.

Generally you want to be near his melee range as much as possible. I don’t think you have immunities. I get it’s frustrating and that you lose uptime on the cocoon but it’s better to fight a spider than be dead.

Once his web is cast it does seem safe to pass near the portals. I haven’t tried going through them. Just let the web frontal go through and try reaching the egg.

Make sure you’ve got some minimal space behind him. Could be you got too close.

As blood dk i am working on it now, closest attempt has been 5%.
But after many attempts I have realised that the fight really isn’t about much skill as melee.

I can kill the eggs, and even if they spawn with somewhat low hp I am fine.

But, the fight is compete rng. There is no ordering to what abilities he will use when all are off cooldown. And since I can not attack egg, which rng spawns close or far away, before he does the slam I am sometimes totally powerless to do anyting.

Had chains where he stands still, after egg spawn, and does everything before he does the slam, at which point the egg has hatched and I have a 100% hp spider that will stun and kill me.

So if that happens I have not choice but to chance it and attack the egg and hope the slam doesn’t happen too soon. And him being off cooldown happens all the time.

Really a terribly designed fight, some skill in avoiding being hit and using interrupt and cooldowns. But it really boils down to what order he will use his attacks.

If I could change one thing it would be that slam is always the ability he uses immediately when it comes off cooldown.
Or that after egg spawn cast he won’t follow it up with any ability for some seconds, giving you time to move towards spawn without having to wait for slam.

The fight can sometimes be 100% impossible due to rng as melee and that is not fun, and the reward probably won’t give me any pleasure since the difficulty in killing him is down to what the server desides to give me.

I didn’t try the highest difficulty yet. It’s not intended for 605 ilv, although some players have done it. You have like 4-5 months to kill the boss for the mount/ach. You’re undergeared, and the fights are usually buggy and overtuned early on.
It was the same thing with mage tower. I did it fairly early on and I had hundreds of pulls on some specs before doing it, even on my main, and probably some grey hairs to go with it. Then I came back later in the patch and just facerolled the challenge, even on specs I never played before like various healers.

I know a lot of people are eager to smash this early, but unless you feel like you have to do it right away, just save yourself the headache and do it in a month or two when you have more gear and probably some nerfs have gone through. If you insist on continuing to smash your head against the brick wall, I wish you the best of luck :saluting_face:

I will say though that I think it’s a general problem this expansion with overlapping mechanics that often conflict with each other. It’s really bad in some of the M+ dungeons.

It took me few pulls to get my self familiar with his abilities.

Press freedom on dot
Interupt his heal
Combo execution sentence with wake of ashes on egg so ez to kill it this way.
Dodge and bait his frontals/fear

I healed my brann more then he was healing me XD
dude was perma dying from something when i was close to the end of fight.
So i used eternal flame on him most of the time
even tho he was healer spec.

exactly, it’s the complete rng on what abilities he uses what screws me over. Someone in another thread said to just kite the boss towards the egg so I can easily sidestep the frontal, but sometimes he does so many other attacks after spawning the egg that I have no choice to go on the egg to not end up with the spider killing me, and ofc that’s when he casts the frontal on me and I have no time to dodge that at all.

also he’s way bugged atm. Had several times where my abilities that should dispel enfeebling spittle or whatever it’s called didn’t so that’s fun as well…

I did figure it out after a while, but it’s really only a strategy that works for blood dk.
I got to the point where I had enough ilvl to survive the slam attack with cooldowns.
On my kill attempt I survived two slams during the fight while killing the eggs.

But since after such a slam I can 100% heal with death strike I wonder if other tanks could do it.

Still, the fight mechanics are terribly designed and even if they added some more rewards I’m not sure I’d do it.

100% this. The mechanics of the boss are not particular hard with some training. But its terrible when you lose the fight because of the many bugs. Worst was when I had zekvir on 3% and brann got feared out of the room resetting the boss. I wasnt sure at first if the spittle thing was a bug or I just misstimed, but looking at the forum its 100% a bug too. Also whats up with brann always dying in phase 2? You can play the mechanics perfectly but brann will always get hit by skillshots.

I would like the fight if it would be bug free, brann wouldnt be a useless idiot, and he cant randomly crit you.

today I had several fights where he crit me so hard I could not even survive 1 min into the fight. No clue what was going on. My gear and Brann were the same as always. And I have like 150+ attempts on this, made it to 10% multiple times. Feels like every day there’s something new messed up.

I finally got it yesterday. I had no bugs in the fight, the eggs lined up nicely, I had no annoying overlaps which made it impossible for me as a melee. This is the way the fight should be every time. Not once every 150+ runs.

There isn’t that much variation in the pulls. You’ll find that small misplays get remembered as “impossible overlaps” etc over time.

Actually there is a lot. Multiple runs where enfeebling spittle got dispelled by brann or me and still 3 seconds later I still got killed by it. Me being out of the claw frontal and still getting hit by it, or other times it instantly hitting giving me not even a second to move out. Runs where no potions were being thrown out for minutes. Zekvir throwing an egg at the edge of the room, casting a heal , then throwing 2 frontals, a fear and spikes right on top of the egg so I could never even reach it as melee, he never even moved from the middle of the room during that barrage of attacks. The fear being spell reflected (after the fix) while I tried to spell reflect the balls while running out, so multiple times the edge of the fear gets spell reflected and not even a milisecond after I die by hitting the ball because that was my actual target. Or a day at the end where zekvir crit so hard I could not even last a minute into the fight for no reason. This has happened to other people I know who tried to get it done at the same time as me. Even on the forums bugs like these have been widely reported. And the people at home watching me try this multiple times commented several times on how things were so buggy because they could see more happening than me in the fight because I was so focused on dodging everything. I’m glad things went well for you, but there’s plenty of people complaining about the state of the fight atm
