given i have just turned 80, no logs, no gs, no achievements, no guild, i am fresh from the factory,
how much gold / budget would it take me to go from zero to hero?
You must buy gold on g2g or wow token for 500$ then you can buy items in gdkp before you can afk in dalaran.
I thought you were gonna do a proper experiment, gearing without using any gdkps. See how far you can get on a very limited budget.

Depends on server, depends if you plan to play the game for loot or buy BOE’s. Depends if you’re pugging or you’re playing with other people. There are BOE’s for pretty much every slot.

I understand the gdkp system, is a nice way of getting the the last 1 or 2 item you need without being worried to losing the roll.
But actually paying real life cash for it?

This is the meta, this is the game in 2023,
my server is 90% gdkp, as is most now,
you want to join an SR raid? you need high GS to begin with,
" zero to hero " you dont just magically aquire GS,
heroic + guess what…you need 5k GS,
guilds are requiring good logs, how do you get logs? you raid, how do you raid with low GS and 0 achievements? you join a gdkp,
lets say you join a gdkp with the gold that you " farmed ", you will get 0 items week after week after week, why…becasue everyone buys gold, and everyone and their grandmother will outbid you, leaving you with nothing,
if anyone wants to go from a fresh 80 to a bis character, without paying a penny, it will take well into next phase or most likely just wont happen.
you want an experiment? i can already tell you the out-come, you hit 80 and you stay that way, no one will invite you to anything, you’ll have crap GS, 0 achievements,
at this point anyone that says they don’t swipe are either lying to themselves or have been well established in a guild for a long time, which is rare, then again even guilds use gdkp now,
its a sad reality, however the truth, people can either pretend it doesnt exist or accept it,

I got to 5k gs on my shammy without any logs in a week of 80. Buying cheap stuff on AH creating my own heroic ++ groups and the lastly creating my own raid groups. You cant count on being carried by someone else if you cant even out down the effort of creating the groups.
Youre just Lazy and you blame the community for it. That i the real sadness in this topic tbh.
Out of curiousity, did you go resto on your shaman?
I could understand the op’s concern if he was playing a pure dps class. Some dps classes have it harder than tank/healer imo.
That being said, its still very doable even as dps. Its as you said, just laziness.
No i was enhance all the time. Like i said, i created my own HC groups to get gear. Ppl dont really care if youre low geared aslong as you are the creator of the group. Its just that they dont invite you since there is 50000 other dps with loads better gear then you with 3-4k.
