Just wondering the difference between the 2, as I never did original ZA,
ZG you would go in as a fresh 60 and get some nice gear with minimal hassle (generally speaking) , with ZA what gear level will you be expected to have, kara pieces? T4 minimum? T5?
and is the gear from there desirable?
Difficulty, straight forward tactics or are the fights engaging?
Around t4 gear for regular clears (skipping the timed chests).
It’s definitely much more difficult than ZG and more difficult than Kara and it’s pretty engaging. Though the fights are pretty straight forward, failing the mechanics will get you killed.
If you go with t4 gear there are a lot of upgrades there, however if you go in t6 only a few items.
ZA is a 10m raid, and it’s tuned so that you should have at least Kara-level gear before attempting it (“bear runs” might still require more gear).
The iLvl of ZA gear is the same as T5, but the items are much more pushed than TK/SSC ones, often sacrificing significant amounts of stamina to push other stats, including ones we haven’t seen much of before (such as spell haste). In this sense, it’s not that different from ZG, which also featured items whose low-ish iLvl was compensated by very aggressive itemization that made its drops a lot better than their MC-esque iLvl would suggest.
Overall, if you’re still in T4/T5 gear, most drops here will be significant upgrades, altho a full ZA gearset could leave you somewhat frail for certain T6 fights. If you’re T6 geared, though, only a handful pieces will be useful, but still enough to make it worth running at least a few times - again, just like ZG. Plus, the fact it drops BoJ and the bear mount contribute to giving this raid a lot of longevity. You won’t quite be able to jump into it the same way you did with ZG, but you’ll easily do it all the way to the end of the expansion.
Oh and it’s much more fun than ZG, with less emphasis on loads of trash and much more interesting (and well tuned) bosses.
Some of the gear in ZA will be desireable; there’s an awesome Armour Penetration ring for example. And the 2h sword from the last boss looks awesome.
There’s also some really great weapons. And of course the recipe for the executioner enchant.
take my next statement with a grain of salt, but i did some za runs on a private, it was really deadly. we did it with kara/t4 geared dps mostly, and t5 geared tanks/healers. we killed the eagle and the bear boss, which are the first 2 and easiest, if the raid fails mechanics you will 100% wipe, and the dps/heals also has to pump somewhat
