I just want to know if this is on Blizzard’s radar to fix. I have a friend who half the time can’t see in game chat, despite having online chat activated. It’s a major problem affecting game enjoyment given that chat is needed to trade. She is even considering quitting the game entirely due to it.
Can we please have an acknowledgment it’s an issue and it is being looked into?
There’s currently no known bug with the in-game chat. Please make sure that you’ve followed the instructions of Tyrskorn in the thread that you linked (i.e. check the Allow Online Chat settings in game under Gameplay, and double check your Privacy Settings, especially for UK residents).
You can also double check for Parental Control settings, and check your email for potential recent account suspensions.
Finally, you can double check the Settings file (by default, under C:\Users\username\Saved Games\Diablo II Resurrected), open it with Notepad, and make sure that the following line is present (otherwise try adding it, and save the file):
Thanks for your response. I and my friends have collectively followed those steps, yet there remains occasions where we cannot see in game chat, forcing us to use whatsapp to communicate in the game.
The issue appears to have been reported several times by different sources - perhaps worthy of escalation and further investigation?
Chat bug problem:
with /who you can see which person in the game are “connectet” with you and can read what you write.
ich have done over 2000 Baalruns in the last weeks… in a p8 games its absoluty rare that more then 5 people can read the chat…
and if you do 100 runs with the same 8 people every game it switch wich person can read your text.
so it is obviosly no Option in the game! it must be an connection bug with the chat ingame!
How come there isn´t a known bug for that when in this same technical forum almost half of the treads is people complaining about it not working?
Please take a quick look at the titles of the treads of the last month.
(Not my case tough as I cant even get past the character selection screen)
Please give us a fix for the persisting issues around ingame chat asap. Playing with friends and not being able to communicate properly is not acceptable.
Typing “/who” ingame reveals that the game seems to randomly put us in different ingame lobbys although we are all in the same game. That way people cant read all public messages in the same game.
Blizz needs to deepdive into that issue and find a fix ASAP.
I see many people use the Trade chat to reply to in-game messages because they aren’t aware that they’re typing in Trade. Are you sure you/your friends are talking in the game chat window and not in Trade or Lobby?
There is no known bug? Really? I can’t remember a day when I wasn’t muted. The whole community screams about it. Reproducing is not hard, really. Get a team of a few players together and try to do some runs together. It’s especially bad if you join using friendlist. By now it’s automatic that I start every game with a message like “test”, “…”, “check” or whatever and I often need to whisper to my teammates that chat is, sadly, broken again. And alternating between whisper channels to communicate with others is NOT an easy task as currently implemented.

it is easy, can’t done something - don’t take payment for that.
why to take position when we should approve you that bug exist? Try to type in google chat bug and you see more than 20 pages with that issue.
your receipt to check settings is worth and you know but still try to sell that receipt
5 times - delete game
2 times - clear windows setup
Late answer but if you press Enter (whatever button you use to activate the chat) and then click on the current chat room name at the top of the chat window and it’ll show you a drop down menu of every chat you’re active in. With the new patch coming you can simply tab between chats.
