Notorious Error 1016, cant play new season

yeah i crashed/freezed and got sent to hero selection screen 5min after i found a rainbow goblin and was inside whymsdale and looted ty alot blizzard ….

EDIT: After today’s error 1016 showing up every 2 mins. I tried something that suggested another player. I downloaded Windscribe and established German VPN (I’m from Poland so that was the best reccomendation), since then i played about 5hrs without 1016, which was a breaktrough. That might was a coincidence but it’s highly unlike it is. I got some minor lag issues but it was not something to spoil the gameplay. Looks like 1016 issue has something to do with IP/internet provider configuration. Try this out guys and give your feedback back whether this solution helped or not.
Windscribe without pricing plan provides 10GB of data if you confirm e-mail address. After 5hrs i used about 200 MBs, which makes it sufficient solution for a long time.

Hello everyone, I had this same problem! Disconnecting every time I tried to start a game, constantly getting error 1016. I tried to fix it with no avail until I disabled my router’s UPNP. This fixed it right up.

FFS - if there is problem in around EU - maybe, just maybe there is a problem on blizzard servers?? Since there has been these forever!

Same here…most of the time right at the last bounty or right before I kill gr boss.
Very annoying and Blizzard won’t do a thing about it because they alway say its at our end. Blizzard please fix this!!!

Same here… THIS IS the first time i have this error and nothing to do, not work. I try changing DNS (GOOGLE), the router uses the same options, nothing change from previous. Start game and BOOM error appear ANY TIME. I use the FIX option to verify ALL GAME files, nothing…Please help me.

They did not even reply here, I wouldnt be so mad if they straight said that they f***ed something up and can not fix it right away… ok sucks but Ill bare, but ignoring what is becoming a big chunk of players… hell if its only happening to like 10 people, is highly unprofessional on their end

If you get error 1016 on macOS Mojave try this.

  1. Set your IP manually not via DHCP
  2. Set your DNS to Google public DNS (8.8.8.8 - 8.8.4.4)
  3. Start Battle.net app and go to Settings -> General -> untick “Use browser hardware acceleration”

After some WinMTR tests with various pc/laptop - cabel/wifi setup I’ve found that the problem is with my Intel ethernet (I219-V) chipset’s and/or driver. I used (as everybody else I think) that driver/version what win10 found and installed -> 15% packet loss. Right after I’ve installed the latest Intel® Network Adapter Driver for Windows® 10 (v. 25.0) the packet loss even after 1000 packets is 0% and 1016s are also disappeared. So that was the solution - at least for me…

Dear blizzard … it has been more than a month and still error 1016 is not sorted either for me or other players nor there is any updates on fixing this issue

I find it very worrying that you show almost no support towards your players,
Hopefully you will do better in future, but unfortunately for me it is a bye bye solution, the only thing I regret is investing money, time and hope towards you.

I fixed this error 1016 by “run Diablo in Windows 7 mode” and disable the network adapter IPv6. From that time I have never got any error 1016 - it works! :wink:

I would like to top this topic, got the same issue, playing on wifi. Ipconfig commands didn’t work, neither did compatibility, IPv6 disabling, antivir uninstall… Everything went to hell with last patch, becoming quite desperate.

new player just got the game … lots of 1016 issues but not when i started playing.
I have 2 internet connections both 4g, EE and 3uk.
so not the ideal situation already.
i was using 3uk but my EE connection gave me a payg unlimited data offer … its faster than 3uk but i have had issues with EE before with hearthstone and disconnections … didnt figure it out until now…
i have had a lot of 1016 errors since using EE … but they stopped 99% when i went back to 3uk.

my EE connection was usb tethered to my mobile, and my 3uk connection is via network cable to my d-link 4g router.

I’m also getting the 1016 error. The funny thing is that even while the error message is displayed on screen, the game is still connected and running in the background. I can even still cast abilities bound to keyboard buttons and other players are running around killing monsters. How does that work? From what exactly am I disconnected if the game is still working?? The only thing I can then do is click the OK button and get booted to the login screen.

Months passed and this error is still present, Blizzard, are you going to do anything with it at all? New season is coming, more and more people post here, so you are perfectly aware this is not isolated issue, you are aware that many players cannnot play your game, due to problem on your end. It is time to do something, at least give us information if this issue is even investigated.

So I tried everything and restarted after every step. Even following Dezo’s advice by updating my network driver. It helped delay the error code but still getting after 20 mintues or so of playing.

This is my first time believe it or not playing a Blizzard game, I’m in love with Diablo 3 at the moment but this experience is really putting me off.

My friend is a Network engineer and after she looked at our network, she said there is no issue our end. She plays WoW a lot and has no problems what so ever, even she plays Diablo from time to time on the same network and has no issues.
