Blurry image while moving

Same issue here.
Randomly happens on my 1440p monitor at 144Hz. Switching Gsync off/reducing Hz doesn’t make a difference. For reference:
PC spec: Intel 13700
DDR5: 64Gb
GFX: 4090

Hi everyone i have the same problem: Blurry, very ugly graphics whenever my character moves. Looks disgusting. The only thing that helps is stop moving. I even cant read the other player names while they or me move. I already had the same problem in the beta. I tried all the settings. I have an acer Predator 4k screen and play the game in stable, locked 60fps WQHD (Textures high) with g-sync compatible activated. Please give us an option to at least deactivate TAA and Motion blur. I guess one of these settings are the problem. I am wondering why none of the testers or streamers i have seen mentioned this problem yet.
I forgot to mention: The bad graphics hurts my eyes, but i love the game  plz Blizzard help

Same, I don’t think I can keep playing without ruining my eyes / vision.

Edit for specs:
RTX 4070Ti
1080p
Frame Gen on / off - no difference
DLSS on / off - no difference

“Everybody is blind or what lol” ← I had the exact same thought xD

Kinda funny coming from someone who plays in 1080P with a 4070TI, time to upgrade your display and actually do something good for your eyes

Guys I can confirm that the best current fix, as guys have already mentioned here, is to get the latest nvngx_dlss.dll from techpowerup (NVIDIA DLSS DLL 3.1.13). Then just replace that file in your base Diablo 4 folder after each time you reload the Battle.net app / close the game (as it will revert it back to the 3.1.1 DLSS DLL version when you close the game or when you load up Battle.net - you will see the 33MB patch come through).

This doesn’t remove the blur completely, but it is now 90% gone. Much harder to notice while playing now … and especially in those slow camera pans during in game cutscenes.

I am running a 5950x, 3090 and the Alienware Ultrawide QD-OLED (so 0.1ms response times) … playing @ 3440x1440 with DLAA on.

Easiest way to test is to load into game as normal … then just zoom all the way in and look at your character standing still. You will see his/her helmet blur heavily when they are breathing looking at them from above.
Now log out … replace the DLSS DLL to 3.1.13 and watch your character breathing again. Blur will be almost gone now.

Just remember to replace the DLSS DLL everytime u load the game (after you open up Battle.net and just before you hit play) as it will revert back to the old 3.1.1 when you reload Battle.net / after you close the game.

Hopefully Blizz / Nvidia add the nvngx_dlss.dll at the driver level when the next driver comes out (like they have for other titles) … so it always uses the latest dll instead of the one that shipped with the game.

Wall of text … but it fixed it for me … try it for yourselves.

what ? you can play games perfectly fine in 1080p … especially when playing competitive games

Are you sure it’s not a placebo?
You are replacing the DLSS dll but you aren’t even using DLSS ingame.
Also the blur people are talking about is visible even native without DLSS or any other upscaling method.
That means it’s most likely from the game’s own built in TAA solution which you cannot disable completely.

DLAA is using DLSS … just @ native res without the upscaling part (as an AA method far superior to TAA and more performant). DLAA is basically an Ultra Quality DLSS setting one step up from the usual max (quality mode DLSS).

When u enable DLSS it usually disables other AA methods as DLSS is doing the AA instead … so I don’t think it is D4’s game engine TAA implementation … think it is the motion blur setting we don’t have access to.

Like I said, using DLAA with the latest 3.1.13 dll is def not placebo as I can see the diff just from my char standing still and watching the amount of helmet blur when she is breathing when zoomed right in (honestly difference is 100% night and day). The blur was also really evident during those slow pans during ingame cutscenes … with the latest DLL the blur here it is now almost imperceptible.

The latest DLSS DLL doesn’t remove the blur … just masks it by doing a way better job at cleaning up the motion blur during the DLSS ‘reconstruction pass’.

That is a contradiction, if it is inbuilt motionblur, then it would still be there with DLAA since it cannot magically disable it or overwrite it like TAA.

Also i just replaced the dll and did a few comparisons with native, DLSS quality and DLAA.
No matter which setting there is always a slight blur when moving.

Oh btw i noticed that the sharpen setting is not global, it is different for native and DLSS modes, maybe that might have given you the impression that it’s less blurry?

Seems like a lot of people are affected by this ‘‘feature’’, the question is if blizzard is aware of this or do we have to escalate tickets to dev’s for them to give some sort of response regarding this?

I only get this effect on my character when moving with DLAA/DLSS.

I agree with this.

An easy way to test if people are experiencing the same issue I’m referring to to use the stablemaster vendor tab. Switch between mounts and mount armors, and you’ll see your horse will move from it’s ‘slightly leaning back’ stance to its upright stance. It’s helpful if you’re using a mount armour with lots of fine details (e.g. armour plates with rivets)

It may be helpful if people list what monitors they’re using, or at least the refresh rate. For example, I’m on a Samsung ultrawide (3440x1440) that refreshes at 100hz (running on an RTX4090 FE).

With DLAA and frame generation disabled, I do not see this issue. There’s very very minor ghosting, but that’s not the fault of the game and I have to actively look for it to see it.

With frame generation enabled but DLAA still disabled, there’s some minor blurring, though it’s difficult to actually see unless I actively focus on looking for it.

If I turn on DLAA, this effect becomes amplified until the mount finished moving. After perhaps 500ms or so, the blurring is gone.

However, in all cases, I have to actively be looking for it to really notice it, and it doesn’t distract from when I’m actively focusing on content instead of visuals. It’s certainly not as pleasant as crisp images, but it’s also not so bad that I believe it’s a fault with the game itself. Rather, an update to the DLSS DLL should be sufficient, and I’ve no doubt NVIDIA can potentially improve this further in future revisions.

It’s possible that others are experiencing a different issue to me, and I don’t think it’s valuable for anyone to rule out what others might be seeing just because they’re actually experiencing a different issue that seems to have similar (but not identical) symptoms.

This seems to be Nvidia related. I have two PCs at home and can reproduce it 100% on the RTX 4070 PC. On the AMD (6800XT) PC everything is absolute sharp regardless whether you move or not.

I was trying to reproduce the blur in the mount ui but could not, no matter what settings.
Like i said before, for me the only thing i’m noticing is a slight blur when moving because of the TAA most likely.

Some other things that might be going on:

-using a display with a high response time aka ghosting and smearing

If you don’t have a modern “gaming” display with a higher refreshrate than 60hz, your display most likely does not have a good response time.

-running DLSS in performance or worse in ultra performance mode, especially in 1080P
will produce lots of reconstruction artefacts and fuzzyness when moving.

Remember performance mode is only 50% of the native resolution, that is 720P for 1440P and only 540P for 1080P.
Ultra performance is even less.

My display is 1440P/144Hz and i play in quality mode, balanced is also fine but a bit blurry.

FSR is worse than DLSS but ok for higher resolutions and in high quality modes.
It’s especially bad for grass and transparencies.

There are some AMD users who claim to have the same problem, so i don’t think it is nvidia related.

I had this same issue and tried everything and seemed to have found a fix. I didnt notice the issue as much on my 24” 165 1440p monitor but I recently upgraded to the aw3423dwf and noticed it immensely.

Turning DLSS to balanced or quality and changing the Anti-Aliasing Quality to Low really seemed to fix the issue for me. Its super easy to try and let me know if it fixes the issue for you!

Finally this helped me a bit. Now it is not horrible but just bad. I hope it will be someho fixed with now drivers lately because I think It had not been so bad with preivou graphics drivers (RTX 4080)

Just to expand on this a little, here’s the blur I experience: i[dot]imgur[dot]com/g8utS0u.png

On the left is when the mount is moving slightly (i.e. adjusting to it’s ‘upright’ idle animation). On the right is when it’s stopped moving (i.e. in between breaths). This is only present with DLSS enabled and as it can be shown in a screenshot, it’s obviously not a monitor issue. In context, this screenshot was with DLAA chosen, but the issue is also present with other modes.

Even with all AA-related settings disabled in NVIDIA control panel, the game still inherently includes some of its own.

Again, hopefully a DLSS DLL update will reduce how bad this is.

I got news: in my desperation i tried random settings again and i finally did something that helped a lot. I have no idea why it does help and it is something i normally would never do. Because i think i know pretty good what are important settings to keep on high.
I did klick on “default” graphics settings (high). And suddenly everything looked way better. Much less blurryness. Not totally gone, but mostly. I tried to activate a few options like limit fps on 60 again but whatever i did it got worse again. So again got to “default” and it is okay now. Which is weird because my frames are much less smooth now. Now i am scared to change any settings ever again :open_mouth:
try it folks
