Few days ago I got a new laptop. Intel i5-8300h 8GB of RAM, GTX 1050. I started playing and since I’ve launched hots, lag spikes have been constant. Every few seconds fps is 60 then it jumps down to 20 or 30 and back to 60 and so on, it looks like game speeds up and slows down all the time.
I’ve tried turning on and off Vsync, lowering the settings, changing display modes, disabling fullscreen optimization and the windows game bar.
Laptop was connected to charger all the time while playing.
I don’t really know what else should I do, other games are running fine, although I haven’t tested many yet, since I have yet to download more.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Edit: So I managed to realize that problem appears when I turn the shaders to medium or higher. When the shaders is set to low, there are no lag spikes as I described. But I still don’t understand how could performance drop so low even tho have a pretty good GPU?
It also seems now that this only happens in hots
Edit: this can be deleted
Good morning MrData007,
Have you checked if you are running the newest drivers for your Laptops hardware? Please check on the different manufacturers webpages if you are running the newest ones.
Kind regards
What’s your opinion?
Hi, I have already done that. All my drivers are up to date. I also tried to configure some settings in the Nvidia control panel but that didn’t help either.
Hello again,
Could you please post a DXDiag and MSInfo here? If the data is too big to be posted on the forum directly, you can use a page like pastebin.com and post the link to it here then.
Kind regards
What’s your opinion?
I’ve made both files, but I couldn’t post links because it sad I’m not allowed to.
Hello,
Just put the link in, add two or more spaces to the link in order to post them.
Kind regards

Here is the DXDiag < snip >
And here is the MSInfo < snip>
I hope this works >.<
Thank you for your time
Yes, that worked. It looks fine so far. Could you please check to what the Windows Power Options is set? I would recommend to set it to the High performance because sometimes Laptops tend to, if set to a power saving option, to save power whenever they can, meaning, even throughout a game which would explain your spikes.
So, put the Power option to High performance and try again with your shader being set to medium.
Kind regards
What’s your opinion?
I have set the the power to High performance(was set to balanced), tested it in game, restarted laptop just in case, tested it in game again and unfortunately the problem still persists.
Alright,
Could you please also try and go into your Nvidia program, check “manage 3d settings”, look for the power management mode and make sure to set it to “prefer maximum performance”.
Kind regards
What’s your opinion?
I’ve set it as sad, but now the performance is even worse, fps is 20 at all times now.
Ok,
One more option would be overclocking/overheating and overlays. Please go through this article here.
Kind regards
What’s your opinion?
I have tried all of steps from the article, but it seems none of them helped. I’ll be running Hots on low shaders then. Sorry for making so much posts, and again thank you for your time.
I am sorry to hear that all suggestions didn’t work. Have you checked that you are running the latest version of your NVidia program as well?
Kind regards
What’s your opinion?
Yes all is up to date. I’ve also noticed that in Nvidia control panel I have only 3d settings. Apparently it is because I also have integrated Intel gpu. But the game is running on gtx of course.
Have you actually checked that in the NVidia Global settings? Make also sure that there is no extra profile set for Heroes in the Program settings, so that it uses the Global settings. Having an extra profile for the program could overrule teh global settings.
Kind regards
What’s your opinion?
Yes, my global setting is “High-performance NVIDIA processor”, and the Heroes Program Settings is using global settings(no additional profiles are present), but the problem is still here.
Alright, some basic things as well. Please disable the Windows one-drive, because if that starts syncing while you are playing the game, it can cause this issue. Secondly, i would suggest to disable the NVidia shadow play and streaming program.
Kind regards
What’s your opinion?
I have done both, fps is still dropping like crazy. My gpu seems to hit 93 to 99C is that normal temperature?
No, that is not a normal temperature for this card. The maximum, as given by Nvidia, is 97 degress, so yours runs from time to time above the maximum temperature and could be damaged by this. Your drop in performance is related to this because reaching certain degrees will result in the gpu slowing down to lower the temperature. Either your laptop is faulty and not cooling properly or you are putting it in the wrong place. What a laptop needs is a clean, sturdy and even surface to be placed on. A blanket underneath or the bed would result in overheating.
Kind regards
