“Dunking” is equivalent to “Smurf” in regards to meaning for the Americans. Read around the word, you’ll see. The writer is likely american given he’s a Blizzard developer, hence his preferred word of “Dunking” over “Smurfing”.
You don’t even know what you’re talking about lmao. You have no idea what “Dunking” or “Smurfing” mean. Just coming up with delusional responses. Smurfs play better than new players, what are you not getting about that? Smurfs smurf to destroy new players. Also known as “Dunking”
You really need to learn and research what you type. You don’t seem to have much knowledge on the subject.
How so? Smurf is not a global word, likewise Dunking isn’t. Dunking and smurfing are of the same thing.
An example can be seen here: https ://www.inverse.com/gaming/smurfing-meaning-gaming-overwatch-league-of-legends
Smurfing is when a highly-skilled player creates a secondary account as a disguise to play against less proficient opponents. This almost always results in the Smurf steamrolling their lower-level adversaries, which might be hilarious for the better player but usually leaves their victims bitter.
It’s exactly like that Pepsi commercial where Kyrie Irving dresses like an old man and joins a pickup basketball game. Sure it’s kind of funny and you get to meet an NBA player, but only after you get dunked on for the fourth time in a row. It feels like you got hustled or cheated.
In this context of the examples provided, they’re both of the same thing.

This will help you understand what Wolfebear is saying regarding highly ranked players starting new accounts to purposely dunk on lower elos:
That quote from him actually means nothing. Of course a smurf might destroy players.
They might also just lose games.
Doesn’t matter. Starting a new account isn’t smurfing. You need to add a lot of deranking into that to even start smurfing.
What if a new player, never touched ow, comes in and is just a great player out the box… They aren’t smurfing, but they will just “dunk” on silver/gold Moira players.
Then that’s a legit new player, to a new account - great news!
He’ll soon settle at the correct SR/MMR and hopefully progress.
I’ve never started a new account so I wouldn’t know. I would guess it would place you in the lower elos though so if you’re a highly ranked player - you would more than likely stomp/dunk/smurf.
But a smurf is just that, a highly rank elo, who sets up a new account for no other reason than to just stomp/smurf/dunk. Very similar to the example - A highly ranked player who dresses up in a new account.
You fail to comprehend that maybe, just maybe, I didn’t do anything wrong. But you do you, and stick to your delusional assumptions. “Wetwipe”. Nice to see you have yet another account. Explains why you’re so defensive with the words “Smurf” and “Dunk” when you continuously do it yourself lol
Yep. Gold actually. Like you said in previous posts. “Silver people have more knowledge and understanding and know what they’re talking about”. You weren’t in my game to judge, I did my job, you can’t say anything about it. Assume what you like, you always do.
At least you admit having at least “3 accounts”. I mean personally I find it very weird why you even have 3 accounts. But this explains why you don’t understand the meaning of the words “Smurf” and “dunking” because you do it all the time yourself.
But hey, at least you admitted to smurfing, tut, tut.
If you make a new account and bully newer or less experienced players you are smurfing. Through the games needed to actually be able to compete in competitive your mmr should have in theory aligned itself with where your main is… IF you are playing as well as you would normally which lets be honest you won’t because it’s not competitive. Unranked to gm is technically smurfing you are playing in an elo you had no business being in, though I suppose if you are the sort of person who does it but keeps losing to diamonds then you’re either throwing or someone who didn’t deserve gm in the first place.
Not necessarily no, but the point still stands that rinsing lower elo players when you don’t belong there is technically smurfing. Doesn’t matter how long you stay in that elo. Yes you’re right if you want to split hairs then yes everyone to a degree has or will Smurf at some point. However unranked to gm is pointless, the examples that the creators give are only necessary to the specific hero, team composition, map and counters.
