Thoughts on Marvel Rivals?

They will in time.

They only say now because having shorter queue times than OW is a good, but artificial, bragging point.

Ultimately, a lack of role queue in ranked (casual it isn’t needed), will improve the game at a certain level. Maybe it should be like the hero bans, above a certain rank the game has structure. Below that it’s a free for all.

Like with OW though. People will only tolerate the nonsense for so long. Right now the games in its honeymoon phase. It can ride it out for now.

They already annouced they had no ideas to add it.
I don’t like that decision at all, but at least they were transparent about it and demonstrates that they are listen us. I know a certain company that could remain in silence for years about that.

Early days of OW a lot of people called for RQ. Jeff Kaplan would repeatedly say they didn’t want it and laid out exactly why. Queue times being the big one.

MR is now getting the same requests, and all they’ve said is “we’re not considering it”.

I’d argue, OW was more transparent. But either way, MR will introduce it at some point. It’s just a case of how and when. For now, it’s not needed, the chaos factor is part of the charm. But that won’t last forever.

i actually dont want Role queue in marvel rivals right now that im getting more familiar with the game.

dont get me wrong, i still think that its a big issue for players to only pick the damage role however in competitive it is extremely necessary to know how to win the game with a narrow minded team that never picks the least favorite role i team up with which is called the tank.

therefor i gotta say that in competitive i feel rather safe. quickplay on the other hand is where these lowkey warriors combine their little iq strength in going full hamster mode on who gets the most kills i guess??

not the way on how to play the game. but who am i to judge those starter players i guess.

the only thing that bothers me is that is that i cant earn free coins because of that exact same logic.

overal the game is good. cheaper aswell. the battlepass is 50% less cheaper than what overwatch is selling us.

On this. The BP is going to be the same price.

It’s only cheap this season because the season is short.

It’s amazing I’ve been having a blast in the Jeff Shark xmas game mode haven’t felt the urge to play Overwatch in a while…

:kissing_cat:

Even if that is the case, marvel rivals skins are still more worth then the Overwatch skins because you can visibly view them third person like.

Also whenever you buy a single skin worth more than 1000 coins you literally buy a bundle for the whole skin which include: a spray, an emblem, and a new potg for the hero.

Each to their own. I think they’re just as pointless, but that’s just me.

This is true. I wonder, as the player numbers slowly drop, if this is something they’ll change. Already seeing some pricey things appear.

Who knows. But that definitely means marvel rivals doesnt only takes things for granted unlike a certain entertainment who only cares for money.

Just to be specific. 2200 Overwatch coins is worth around 20€. It is less at marvel rivals plus you actually get more.

Sounds like a win win situation for marvel rivals if you ask me.

20 million milestone reached…

Rivals is winning atm…

Is normal, without Role Queue a lot of games are frustanting either because of lack of healing, either because we’re forced pick a role we don’t want for the 10th time that day.
A little frustation today, another tomorrow etc… people patience has limits.

OW2 managed 25m players in 10 days…

Winning what. 20m in 2 weeks (MR) vs 25m in 10 days (OW)… It isn’t an either or situation, but I am not sure what it is “winning”.

Any normal person will want both to do well knowing choice is important. Just be happy you have 2 games you can claim are rigged.

Yeah. You add this to the natural decline games all have early on, there will be a point where they need to change something.

Probably won’t be for awhile. Maybe over a year (assuming it survives that long, it is a funny old world), but it will come.

i think he is just trying to proclaim the fact that it is just doing well. i also prefer playing comp in marvel rivals because it isnt rigged full of premades on the top of the overwatch piramide.and that says alot from someone who plays the game on a regular basis.

i also like the chono shield they added in marvel rivals. for example if you lose, the chrono shield prevents you from rank dropping.

you assume too much with very little things to work on, or is it fear i smell? that marvel rivals will beat overwatch

personally i dont care about overwatch being better. however , i do want blizzard to die

i liked world of warcraft classic and that was about it. the fact that blizzard has attracted so many copium users is insane.

Funny thing is some people said that people are bored of hero shooters and that’s why Concord died and not because it was an unattractive P2P game…

Which no one can deny. It’s good to see it doing well. Without choice and competition, we all lose.

Neither games rigged. That’s just nonsense. But if people want to stack and play with friends, that’s good. That’s how games should be played.

Personally there are too many things that annoy me with MR, so I’ve parked it for now. If my friends all start playing and ask me to join, I’ll reinstall. But for now it’s done. Hopefully it keeps doing well though.

That is exactly why Concord died.

If it was just some fresh IP with new characters, Rivals wouldn’t of done as well as it has. The Marvel brand caries a lot of weight.

It’s not like xdefiant which is being sunset to reduce ubisofts running costs to make a sale more attractive.

I agree, it doesn’t matter which is better. Just play the one you prefer. Or both.

But blizzard “dying” would just mean less games, or less choice, which would be bad for everyone. They should all be learning from each other and pushing each other on to do better. Then we all win.

Interesting to see that with MR (going by steam alone as a reference) about 20% of their players have already moved on. Hopefully that’s just down to the initial extremes. But we shall see.

Rivals is having a normal release. Is a completely new game.
OW2 was released around the hype of an existing game, full of lies, and went viral online for how bad received it was.

We’ll have Deadlock, possibly Concord as F2P. OW can go.

Concord died because it was an uggly game costing the price of a kidney.

Yeah. I suspect it is purely normal, but it is good to see it do well.

With OW, the initial lauch wasn’t that impressive. It just accelerated. The monthly numbers took a couple of months to get to the level they’ve now been at for 2 years.

Will Deadlock ever get an official release… Something about that game makes me think it might not. But we shall see.

Concord, I think Sony dumped so much money into a game no one wanted. They will just use it as a tax write off.

Factors that did not help it, true.

But at the Sony event when they revealed the game play… the was an audible sigh from the crowd. Nothing to do with the look, it came before any real footage was shown. The moment they said team based shooter… It was dead.

But yeah. Sony had to charge for it, they’d sank far too much in to it for it to start free. But that news came later in the reveal.

At the time when talking about “team based hero shooter” the first thing that comes in mind is OW.
So the reaction you saw was the reaction about people thinking about OW.

That certainly will have been a factor. As will other games have been. But it was a PlayStation state of play event.

Some quotes from “The Gamer” who were at the event…

"But something started to feel off just a minute and a half into the trailer. It was clear that two teams were competing for the same objective, securing something called a ‘Blue Buddy’. As a firefight started between the two teams, one character launched herself into the air and shot a member of the other team. It began to dawn on me that this wasn’t a heist game like I’d initially suspected, but a shooter. That’s fine, I reassured myself – I was invested enough in this story to at least give it a shot, as long as the story was good.

And then the gameplay trailer started to run, and I realised I wasn’t looking at a single-player game at all, but a 5v5 team shooter. This is going to sound very dramatic, but I felt something inside me crumple. I’d just seen the first new IP to intrigue me in a long time, allowed myself to get excited about it, and then realised that it was just Overwatch with extra steps. Some of the maps we saw characters fighting on even looked like Overwatch maps, with some of their skills looking eerily familiar."

Now you roll on to MR, and if it wasn’t for the Marvel name and heroes… It probably would of had a similar reaction. But people want to play as the heroes and villains they’ve grown up with. Hopefully that is enough for it to succeed long term. Hopefully both MR and OW learn from each other and “share” ideas (ie just copy things that clearly work, because we know NetEase will, they don’t do much off their own back).

It is a genre I enjoy, so the more the merrier… But the fatigue from a lot of others is there. Hero shooter fatigue + live service fatigue + uninteresting IP. Recipe for failure.

How does he extrapolate from “the crowd sighed” to “all gamers are tired of hero shooters”…

Insane logic leap…
