Partly right - they are stopping manufacturing petrol/diesel vehicles in 2035, bit not stopping people from driving them if they already own one. Iāll be 64 by tben(unless the Grim Reaper pays me a visit before) so my driving days will be pretty much behind me.
Iāve driven forklifts quite a lot and the boring big ones always have multiple gears. Not quite the same gearing as on cars, but still familiar enough to keep me alive on the concept.
And if they go through with that 2035 (which I think will change) people of our age can just buy new or used car before that timeline and use it for the last of their driving years easily.
I would be 50 by then, if I buy new or used car then I can easily use it for the last 20 years of my driving lisence. Even my current car is soon 20 years old that I just repair self for the normal wear and tear on breaks and the like.
You did say that they were not cost efficient or āpossibleā for the average worker.
Iām recharging my car for 39ā¬/month with unlimited kilometers. I can use my car whenever I want and not pay a single ā¬ above the 39ā¬ I pay monthly.
Iād say thatās pretty cost efficient.
As for the environment, I donāt care.
I didnāt purchase an EV to save the environment, and France only releases 1% of all carbon emissions worldwide.
But even if EVs do pollute, a big perk you canāt deny is that they donāt release anything when you use them. Gas cars smell terrible, EVs donāt smell anything.
39e/month to charge the car for your usage is good deal but I havent talked of charge costs I mentioned the purchase and battery replacement cost compared to used fossil fuel car. Its about that they have to pay 35-55k$ for the car and then 10k$ later to replace the batteries after 7 years.
Thats the not cost efficient equation for the electric for the average customer. It only partially works in countries that give free battery replacements but not many countries support it and everywhere else it becomes more costly than owning a fossil fueled used car.
I think i heard somewhere that our government are considering dropping the idea (im not convinced though). Here in the UK, we just havenāt got the infrastructure to go fully electric (lack of charging points and various other factors).
Personally, i think hydrogen fuel cells are the way forward. Theres pros and cons in the whole fossil fuel/EV debate, and its usually quite an interesting discussion. Your point about the battery disposal is good.
Same here, I saw some countries supports free battery replacements but what everywhere else in the world would ppl suppose to do I dont know, just pay up 10k$ to replace batteries after 7 years of driving a brand new car doesnt work when they can buy 3 used cars for 10k$. The purchase alone costed them 35k$ something if the electric car were cheap. People can buy used car for 1500-3500$ and drive it with no fault for years so I dont see why they would pay more if theyre poor like me.
Yeah they will need to do some development like this for cost and weight efficiensy for the batteries before it even becomes possible to put entire world on it. I dont think its possible yet with the current design to force whole world on it. Batteries have too short lifetime and theyre costly to replace. Personally I just use whichever is cheapest, I dont have any other opinion or decision on it what power source moves my vechile.
I miss how in the pandemic there were essentially no cars anywhere. The air was cleaner, the sound was better, nature was better.
Now weāre back to everyone and their dog owning one.
Weāve just got a little Kia that pootles about but can make a decent drive if needed.
I got a old japanese car as old as wow, its build same year wow were released. I just maintain and do minor repairs on it self, my use of money on transportation is pretty cheap and my foot print on enviroment is pretty small as I just re-use same old car for this long instead buy new ones consantly like most do.
I honestly couldnāt care less about my teeny tiny footprint on the earth when we have rich people stomping on the world with their emissions
I do care about reducing plastic waste and stuff, though. And electric is largely better. Justā¦ feels futile a lot of the time.
Sorry I dont understand the reply contradicted the comment I replyed on, also disposal off the electric batteries are largely worse.
Think of it like that if all of these people buy new car every 5-8 years intervals like people majorly do its way worse than if they drove same car for 20 years example like I do, cause I simply dont replace anything till I absolutely have to.
Oh I know I justā¦ it is frustration I guess. We do all this work to help the environment and then the rich people splurge all over it.
Yep, it fortunate weāve got a few public bridleways near me, so could walk for miles without seeing a single person. The entire planet briefly āregeneratedā for a while.
Got a 2009 Toyota- sadly on its last legs now, but still a decent motor
Yeah I agree, also small countries like ours ātaking the leadā on enviromental things also feels so futile for me. I quite hate it when I know factually were not even on the spectrum when it comes to pollution and industrial enviromental effects etc. I dont understand why we have to try take lead on anything if were not even the biggest causes for industrial pollution.
I can tell the difference in the air though in scandinavian countries vs england. When I visited sweden a lot it was like I could finally breatheā¦ and then I came home and it was choking. Same with Iceland though theyā¦ lack a lot of trees xD
Nice, I still want to visit Iceland and New Zealand before I kick the bucket. If I have money to travel Ill go New Zealand.
Indeed, no cars here, itās all about the wind serpents and mammoths
I dont know how many visited any national parks during pandemic or how it were there but here everywhere were packed of people, there were hours of traffic jams just for the parking areas and the like on small roads. Now that pandemic is over nature is more quiet but during it were impossible to go anywhere in nature when everywhere you would had meet more people than in town which contradicted the whole reason why I self go these places to enjoy peace and quiet. I quite like if people can go where they want cause then I get to enjoy peace in wilderness and areas in nature like its suppose to be.
Some of the busses in our cities run off of sewage.
Maybe that is the way forward.
