🎭 GD Chat Room (Part 2)

My instructor was great and I was apparently doing very well but unfortunately the stress of being consantly aware of other people made my fibro flare after every lesson. I will probably try again in a few years though and with an automatic so I don’t have to think about gear shifts AND watch other people.

Just get youself a driving setup for your pc, steering wheel , clutch, brake, accelerator, gear shift.

Within a month of playing driving sims, gear shift will be second nature to you.

I was anxious about gear shift too but after doing the above its so easy now.

Extra points if you get a setup with haptic feedback then you can feel the cars biting point.

Cany afford that just pop down the local arcade and spend some time on a machine.

Edit: i managed to get a ÂŁ900 driving setup from CEX for ÂŁ260 second hand only the box was damaged the actual goods were perfect condition, also jerryrigged some vibration pads to the bottom of my pc chair using a old raspberry pi i had laying around so when i went off track the chair would shake lol.

Same. Thankfully Swiss people are a bit like Finns in that regard, mostly quiet and everybody is rather doing their own business, so it’s not that bad (yep, even Swiss Italians! We are usually annoyed at how loud Italians can be lol).

Driving is great, it gives sense of independence and freedom. Also the practical things like easyer to get anywhere one wants in moments of notice and in case of emergency can provide transportation for family member or the like. If go through with it getting the lisence Im sure it will be only positive in the end.

I’m actually so fond of manual shifting I’ve learnt to use it both on the car and on the motorcycle. A couple of months ago I had to drive an electric car for work though, it felt like driving a toy car. Like, I had to reset my brain for a whole minute since I couldn’t find the clutch pedal. And I was like ok, how do I go? My colleagues had to explain me how the buttons work and that I only had to press the accelerator, it felt so strange!

Manual is definitely the way to go when learning. Get the license for manual and you also have automatic, plus knowing how to drive both is definitely an advantage in life. But personally I much prefer driving automatic, it’s just infinitely more comfortable.

I don’t think it’s legal for us in Italy to get your driving license on an electric car, I’ve never heard of someone here who doesn’t know how to use the manual shift (unless he/she doesn’t drive at all of course). It is more comfortable though.

Eww, electric. Never getting one of those. Government’s been trying to make people make the switch for some time now, but people are starting to wake up to the fact that Norwegian road and weather conditions don’t fit with electric. That and the skyrocketed electricity prices combined with electric car advantages (like driving in bus lane or no road tax) gradually being stripped away. The toy cars will go back to being a novelty

Ive driven with stick and automated on normal cars and on trucks 8 + the half gears for each and also this semi automated that has all the gears for you to select either by one gear up or down from the handle or select it to fully automated. I think I would always choose manual for winters or wet asphalt on rain its better to have manual but automatic is super comfy and nice in busy urban city areas with trafic and alot stops and shifting.

One case from winter and automatic come mind in ski trip in Lapland when drive one guys station wagon with automatic and it got interesting on slippery steep hills, it didnt drive like manual would. Modern cars might be better with increased smart technology tho, it was an old mercedes station wagon with automatic.

This is what my parents said and I was on board but I -hate- it. Just let me focus on the road and the cars and my speed not changing gear 50 times because of flippin’ traffic everywhere! That’s what driving is around where I live. Stop start stop start stop start.

I’d only be pootling about my town though, go to the doctors or the grocery store or possibly the vet. Still I am not well enough currently, we haven’t the money cos of spending 15k on dog knees and it’s more of the jam plan for in 5 years

Well if you know for a fact that you’ll never have to touch manual, might as well just save yourself the headache and get automatic license only. Not a gamble we can make here though where most cars are, sadly, manual. But that’s a concern for future Nim anyway, the Nim1000.
