I totally agree with you here…
In the beggining of the season I would do +10 as 415+ along with everyone else with the same ilvl and it was fine, that’s like the min intended ilvl to play it.
Now people are a lot more geared in general so I could understand some people going as far as wanting 425+ for a +10 push, but over 430 is just
Edit: not saying you shouldn’t take higher than 430+ for your +10, I am currently way higher than that myself, of course you should if they apply, I take them too, but there is a difference between taking a overgeared applicant and demanding it.
Itemlevel isn’t a clear indicator with titanforging in place anymore, so people choose this as their method to lower the chances of ‘bad players’ getting into their groups. A higher itemlevel means faster clear time, and do not forget that each piece that drops can warforge/titanforge so even a 430 player can get an upgrade from a normal level raid.
There is a varied player skill level in the game. You do not know how reliable a player can be simply based on itemlevel, so you raise the bar high enough that even if they aren’t good enough to meet the mechanical requirements the damage and health boost from their gear will lower the chances of them causing a wipe.
You can of course clear the raid and even the dungeons in lower itemlevel, but in a pug enviroment it is much harder to actually get there to try. Guilds are your only reliable way to do dungeons at the desired level, or a group of friends/community.
Ret is doing very well in AoE with proper traits, i don’t know why people are not getting him into groups, my 423 ret could do wonders as AoE burst in some M+ where i could join. Paired with Vision of Perfection essence it’s very impressive AoE dps overall.
Ah i see, then blame Blizzard as always, but with 8.3 titanforging will be gone i hope and situation will be clearer.
I don’t know what is there to not like about ret paladins, extremely good utility, good dps, self sustain, being melee is another pros, insane burst. I really don’t know
That Lay on Hands I find myself using it at least once per high key I join on my ret to save someone, it’s very useful.
Also as mentioned the AoE burst is amazing + single target damage is good too.
Oh, and support bubbles.
I think it is because of the meta. A DH is almost always taken, along with a rogue. The last spot is either saved for a monk (both for the debuff and for the more general utilities like Ring of Peace, transcendence boss ability manipulations and the sort) or for a caster (ele shaman, balance druid or on kite weeks likely frost mage.)
Ret utility is really good too, but they are extremely niche and they do not bring a damage buff along with them. A DH has high AoE burst as well, is more mobile, and on top of having the magic damage increase debuff they also have Darkness which helps a lot with specific trash group pulls.
EDIT: In S1 wasn’t in the best spot in M+, which was fixed somewhat in S2 but by then community perception kicked in.
Ion destroyed me when he recently said that they are adding seasonal affix with skips in mind!! WTF?!?! So why they add so many trash mobs, if everything now goes around skipping them? This company is throwing logs under it’s own legs.
