Hello Community and Blizzard. My name is Evgenii (Eugene) or Homiecider, if you prefer nicknames.
This is friendly place for Your and everyone else Stories, that you’ve made on your adventures. Feel free to share your own Stories, Secrets you’ve discovered or Challenges you’ve made for yourself in WoW Classic.
Let’s start. I’m first. Few things about myself. I live in Khabarovsk (almost Japan, but still in Russia). Streaming to Twitch as HomieciderLive, if you interested (it’s not an ad, just a video proof of my challenges, but I’ll be glad if you will come, you can ask me anything, can speak English, just don’t be rude). I’m playing WoW since 3.2.0. Never played on private servers, so Classic is my first Vanilla experience. And Classic is good, IMHO. I know, it had problems on launch and still has them, but it’s not a reason to be toxic about it. Thanks, Blizzard, you’ve made a great game!
Few words about how I started to love Blizzard. I think, the first game I played was demo version of Warcraft 3. When we bought a new PC (Pentium 4!), I got a disc with some demos on it and Warcraft 3 was there. It just had a Prologue introducing Thrall and its journey to Kalimdor. It had 5 missions (instead of 2 in actual game, other 3 were in like custom maps or so). The story was cool, Thrall, Sen’jin… I think, I became a part of Horde since then (never played Alliance, not my faction). Played Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne after and fell in love with Warcraft’s Lore and Blizzard’s Games. Played Diablo series after then. Wow, Blizzard, how you’ve did such cool Games with such deep Lore?! And Music, oh guys, I love Matt Uelmen and Warcraft and Diablo’s Sountrack in general. I spent so much time playing this games and I think Blizzard’s Games are the number 1 in my whole gaming career. I’ve even read books in Warcraft and Diablo Universes, never read any books from other games, they just not so deep for me. I like old classic RPGs, like Gothic series, TES IV: Oblivion, Planescape: Torment, Shadowrun from SNES and a lot more and I think I know, why I love Classic so much now.
Classic feels like good old RPG. Played retail a lot, the Lore is great, but it’s not an RPG game anymore for me. Don’t like when game tells me to login everyday to complete daily quests for (maybe) new item with greater iLvl. It’s like a Pokemon Go, launch daily, spin Pokestop, complete Quest, send Gifts and so on. I know, nobody tells me to launch such games daily, but if you want to be good in that games, you need to do this. That’s why I usually skip current content and go to old locations. Did Loremasters of Vanilla and TBC, raised almost all Reputations to Exalted, even Bloodsail Buccaneers and Goblins all to Exalted at the same time (yep, I’m Insane, ah, those pirates in Tanaris, 2 rep each, Paul Stanley - Live to Win on repeat). I’ve always played this game my own way. My guild told me, why you don’t raise to 80, you can do this quests later and faster on 80, but I liked Vanilla content so much, I even got almost all Sorcerer’s Regalia set for my mage before I went to TBC content. But it’s not the right experience. Classic is a big chance for me to live through Vanilla content, I missed. I got an internet connection in 2008. Thanks, Blizzard for such opportunity.
So, Classic. First, reserved nicknames on Shazzrah, but when they opened Mograine, I fell in love with such a cool server name, I love Lore, you know. And queues on Shazzrah were expected to be very very long, so I reserved some cool nicknames on Mograine and completely rerolled before launch (took a vacation for 13 days to enjoy Classic, BTW). Went to sleep, I live in GMT+10 and game was going to release at 8 AM. So, after like 3-4 hours, I woke up, looked at 10000+ queue on Shazzrah, just to make sure that I’ve made a right decision and launched Mograine (20 minutes and I was playing already). Oh guys, it was fun experience. I had a queue for the first mini-boss in the cave in Valley of Trials, when so much orcs and trolls were standing on corpse and autoattacked him to death in milliseconds. Glad I’m not a quest mob in Classic, I apologize Yarrog Baneshadow. But you deserved it, you are not good guy. After that I made my way to Mulgore and got DC when doing quests in Tauren’s starting area, stucked at 8k+ queue for 6+ hours and after that queue I decided to go to sleep. Since then never experienced any queues at all, I just dodge them with my GMT+10. BTW, don’t stand still for more then 30 minutes! I was making my macros (Protection Warrior, /startattack, Stance Dance, you know), got DC and when I got back, all my macros were gone! But it’s not a problem to worry about. Just did it again. You need to jump or move or interact with an NPC to not get a DC, I suppose. When you are doing macros, you are not AFK, but the game still thinks you are idling, just be careful, my friend. And relog to completely save your macros!
Would like to tell you my plans for Classic. I don’t want to rush, I don’t need any addons to make the game easier. Without addons the game feels more like an RPG. When you read quests, when you explore the world. When you guess what spell this mob casts. That’s my opinion, it’s cool to play without addons, completely different experience, than retail. So, the plans.
My Challenges
- Protection Warrior from Level 1 to Level 60. I tanked a lot since 3.2.0 and I love to tank more than to be a Healer or DPS. And I want to know my class strengths and weaknesses before I hit Level 60. I want to feel my class. To get in touch with my keybinds and so on. The worst thing is to reroll on max level to different spec, you’ve never played with, for me. So, Protection Warrior. I know, it will be longer, but it’s not a problem. I enjoy every time I play this game, don’t need to rush at all. And I know that I can tank in Arms and so on, but Protection is cool for me.
- Classic Loremaster without any addons. Took name of a retail Achievement to name this goal. I want to complete this game with 100%, or kinda. So, I need to do all quests in the game for my faction, race, class and professions. Wowhead helped me a lot with this. I took a list of all available quests from it and made a Google Sheet to track what I’ve done and what I need to do. Here is the link, if you interested, just remove space in https (ht tps://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/160MTig7LWeAtojfiGCooqe5ANi5Yo4roQD0pHshLkAM). It will grow, when I get to new locations, but I don’t want to level too fast, because I have 2 problems. When your level is more than 5 levels above the quest, this quest turns grey. When quest is grey, you don’t see yellow quest mark above the NPC, you need to talk to every “clickable” NPC to find grey quests. So, I’m trying to level not so fast and complete quests before they turn grey. The second problem below.
- All Reputations to Exalted. I know, it will be hard with Bloodsail Buccaneers, Goblins, Ravenholdt Manor and so on, but that’s my challenge.
Did Insane in retail, now I need to do it in Classic, I won’t mind about a title. So, the second problem, when you outlevel your quests and they turn grey, you get decreased amount of reputation. When you are higher than the quest for 6 levels, you get 80% of reputation. 7 levels - 60%, 8 levels - 40%, 9 levels - 20%, 10+ levels - just 10% of reputation. I know, you can donate cloth, but you will need so much stacks of them, so it’s not my way. Also I get a good amount of silver (and gold later) doing every possible quest in the game. Don’t have a problem with money. Learned all skills, all weapon skills (even Polearms), purchased 2 bank slots, bought 10 slot bags and buying weapon and shield from AH when I need to.
- Exploration. I like to visit all possible places in every area and to get to secret places or learn about secrets or not implemented things in WoW Classic.
I will be updating this Thread with more Secrets, I’ve encountered on my journeys and with Stories about WoW Classic. Stay tuned and share your own Secrets, Stories and Challenges!
Update 2:
Hidden Places and Secrets of WoW Classic
Durotar
- Okay, first most common places. If you play without Questie, you don’t see any quests on the map. And this one is hidden. Above Razor Hill there is a Tower and on top you can take quests that gives you 4-slot bag, not much, but when you start playing Classic - bag space is crucial.
- When you are on quest Vanquish the Betrayers, where you need to kill old (not fat) Kul Tirans and Lieutenant Benedict at Tiragarde keep, you can miss another hidden quest. You can’t see it with Questie, so most people just kill Benedict and go back. The hing is, when you kill Lieutenant Benedict he drops the key to secret chest, that located at the top of Tiragarde Keep. I noticed, that nobody walks on top and when I guided my party, they thanked me for that info. So, this chest gives you Aged Envelope that starts quest with good amount of exp for low level players.
- Okay, this one is not so obvious. There is hostile NPC called Makasgar. He stands on the hill when you swim from Sen’jin Village to Tiragarde Keep. Beware swimmers, he can fireball you in few seconds if too low, he is Level 12. I think, he was a part of some quest that Blizzard planned, but never added. Or removed. For the Lore purposes, he is probably an outcast from both tribes, Darkspear and Zalazane with his Voodoo Trolls. Because he is hostile to us and staring at Echo Isles, where Zalazane is located. He can drop good things for your level, if you will be able to kill him. Casters in Classic are tough!
- Okay, the last thing in Durotar is unused quests. First Blizzard planned to add more quests to Sen’jin Village and Razor Hill, but decided not to add them. There were 2 quests for Scorpid Carapaces, small and large. One quest to collect some weed and one quest from cook in Razor Hill to bring him some Boar Meat. But they are not interesting, except of last one, that explains some things. When you level, you can find different corrupted beasts in Durotar. Raptor, Boar, Scorpid, Crab and Crocodile. They are Level 11-12 and can be really tough if you are below Level 10. But there is no reason or quest that explains why they are here. The quest was in plans, but never released. I think Blizzard thought that it is too difficult. Coz there not so many Corrupted beasts available and they are really tough. On the Lore side, this beasts are part of Burning Blade pollution. Most Horde quests are about Burning Blade and this is given by NPC that give you Dark Storms Quest to kill this Warlock Goblin Fizzle Darkstorm. He tells you that the hearts of this beasts are filled with demonic power and you need to kill them and bring their heart to study and destroy later. But now this beasts are only for experiance, for killing lowlevel players that was questing near and for hunters. Because they have unique appearance.
- Also there is a cave with Burning Blade followers, but it usually has just a chest to open and nothing else. Maybe it was a part of another quest, who knows?!
Okay, that’s all about Durotar. Later I will tell you about Mulgore and Tirisfal Glades. This 2 locations have more secret secrets. Just don’t have much time now left for them.
