15 min AV win, or 2.5 hour AV lose

Yesterday I had 2 very different experiences in Alterac Valley. In the first one we went straight to Snowfall graveyard and captured it, defended it until it was ours. Then went on to Iceblood graveyard and did the same.

While at Iceblood gy we also got to kill lieutenants and commanders. Then we went on to Frostwolf Hut, captured. And then eventually killed the Horde General.

This probably took maybe 15-20 min, but it felt like 10, because there was a dynamic, we were doing progress and had a good chance of winning while getting bonus honor. A fun run with an alright timelength. Didn’t get to kill Galvanger, but that’s ok.

Then the next horror of an AV: It starts out as it mostly do with us pushing for Stoneheart graveyard. This is completely setting us up for a loss. Stoneheart is right in the direction for Horde, and they will all be coming that way in contrast to Snowfall gy, where several Horde will have to decide if they want to move on to Dun Baldar or stop to fight ally on the west side of the middle of the map.

All the AV’s I’ve seen ally lose, we go for either defending Stoneheart gy or recapping it, this leads to Horde eventually taking it, ally gets pushed back to the road between Stoneheart and Dun Baldar, we go back forth a bit there, until we end up defending in Dun Baldar for TWO HOURS!!! And then we LOSE.

Holy boomstick my dudes.

When we end up defending in Dun Baldar, the Horde as dominance over the map, they got the graveyards capped, they got our bunkers down, and it’s just a matter of time (!!!) until we lose, because Horde then have a very smooth ride to kill the ally General.

Whereas, ally at that point have to cap graveyards, take down towers, and by that time ally General is at 10% health.

Some people say there’s a lot of afkers or bots, some say the map is Horde favored. From what I can see it’s a lack of the right strategy, and maybe leadership, but for the most part we’re doing it wrong.

I’ve not been in a huge amount of AV’s but the 2 (!) times I’ve seen alliance win, we didn’t touch Stoneheart gy. The first time we actually hid behind the ally outpost, where Balinda is. Then headed for IB gy. The other I described above.

The rest is looong AV’s of always lose. That’s my experience so far.

Best tactic I have seen used, is to hide at sh gy and wipe them on arrival, meet at sh bunker after doing so, wait for ib gy respawn to pop, let the horde pass and then go for ibgy. Doesn’t guarantee wins as it depends on horde defenders at the hut but the tactic defo got the ball rolling every game

Horde does not simply pass. Many a game will I see people saying this, but they are somehow delusional as to what the horde players want.

The horde players do not want to trade IB for SH and then push further north, because this means their lieutenants, commanders and towers are doomed. This also means the horde get less honour in a faster game, which is bad honour per hour given their long queues.

What the horde does is to offer heavy defence. Even in those games where the alliance manage to cap IB gy and start to slowly creeping south, there would be a few horde players in Dun Baldar capping towers and graveyards totally undisturbed.

The IB rush is risky, even after “wiping” the horde at SH, as you have to have disciplined team that does not chase too much and good healers to keep everyone up. Also, you have to hope the horde would not defend en masse, which they usually do.

I think that OPs experience with slowly pushing from SF to IB to FW is best. Mind you, it also goes along the lines with the original intention of the developers: fight for every graveyard and push by achieving objectives.

Sadly, the alliance have been refusing to play this way. Most would rather give up after the first few lost skirmishes declaring the game is “scuffed” and hoping the next one would be better. Well, it wouldn’t be better with this defeationist mentality.

The best strategy to win is , gather at SHGY and wipe them once they are close. Then regather at pit of shame , and push to IBGY , cap it and defend it , dont go die for one kill till u have ibgy after capping it or you will spawn at spgy. Going right is always a loss , doing galv is always a loss .

If you defend SHGY it will result in a turtle game for 2 hours . If you do what has been said above you get ibgy and hold it then its a won game.

You reason in absolute categories: “If you do that, it is loss; if you do this, it is win.” It doesn’t work that way, though.

I’ve been doing at least 10 AV matches a day for the past month. In my experience, when the alliance taps IBGY and hold it, the horde will have a big team defending. It is not impossible to push through: we reached Drek quite a few times with this strategy. The problem is that horde defence is heavy whilst almost no alliance bothers with defending.

And this way we end up at Drek facing several warmasters, because it takes us ages to cap the horde towers due to the heavy horde defence; whereas the hordies at Vanndar have at the best case 2 marshals (IB and TP), because they have not met any defence. The result is horde victory.

I’ll say this again: the horde do not want to rush, as they don’t benefit from fast games. That’s why they would do everything possible to stop alliance from rushing. So far, I’m yet to see a strategy that produces sustainable win rates for the alliance.

The most important is winning fights. And not to give up. We also have losers “we lost”, “just let them win” etc. But it seems, Alliance side has more of them. So many games, where I see 1/3 of Alliance raid, doing something after they lose SH GY.
I only lost games, when Allies zerg IB and then QUICKLY advance south. High Ranked Warriors and 5-6 healers.
And to Russians. But they play as a premade.

Not 100% sure if it would work now, but AV weekend it worked a treat. After wiping them, you hide by the tower and watch the horde pass through the middle towards bel SH gy. I saw a couple a groups trying to push straight off the wipe, but when they get near ibgy the horde they have wiped will respawn in perfect time to defend the rush.

TL;DR just let them win goyim.

this is why alliance don’t win AV.
