But it is just pixels. The big fancy mounts, armor pieces and what have you all basically have the exact same functions; being a mount or armor piece that just looks different.
If they had some kind of unique functionality then you’d have a case. So far they really are just different shapes of pixels.
I don’t know about you but when I visited old raids and dungeons it was mostly to try and generate some gold, which promptly ended after goldfarming got a nerf.
The appearances were just a bonus.
This IS the ideea of cosmetics in general, do you disagree? It’s something people wear to either show off, to look good, or as a testament of something they achieved and they are proud of. And no, I do not care if I got a specific mount or mog the “real” way, and somebody else got it by being boosted or whatever. It makes me feel I accomplished something and I got rewarded for it. I do not think I am alone in this vision of what cosmetics are supposed to be. It’s fine if you don’t care about them. They don’t influence character power in any way. But lots of people want them to mean something when you get it. You know the fastest way to kill a mount or a transmog and make sure nobody uses it? Make it extremely easy to get. This is not an opinion, it’s a fact of human psychology. Rarity makes things desirable, just like precious metals, and other rare things IRL.
True…however they have a much greater solidity, practical utility and resale value, than the pixels that make up Longboi or Invincible.
Still, it’s an interesting philosophical point on the transience of matter and the definition of value.
The world is what we receive (dunno if thats the right word ) though our brains. Pixels are real just like Atoms. Do you know that the colors dont exactly exist hehe. Everything is in your head. You receive this “real” world this way cuz your human brain works that way.
Everything is indeed processed via your head…however, a 500mile RL road trip would demonstrate extremely effectively the difference between an individual completing the journey via motor vehicle and another attempting to complete the exact same journey, on Invincible.
No passenger car above lets say 10.000 euros/usd really has any extra utility… lets be honest, the reason people buy Porsches, Ferraris is exactly the same as people riding Longboys and Spectral Tigers in Oribos. Prestige, exclusivity and a sense of appreciation or envy from other players/people. The entire western culture is just that, being more special in the eyes of other people.
That I disagree with the notion, because I think there are only a select minority of people who actually want to wear things because “They want to show off their achievements”.
So why are you making a big deal out of it?
Hey, good for you. You can sit there feeling pride and accomplishment, and (Hopefully) keep quiet about your complaints that something becomes more readily available.
Typically the average person thinks “Oh yay, I got a good looking piece” rather than “Oh yay, I got this super rare item to show off”.
Most of my characters in Retail have leveling gear 'mogged onto them, because I like how they look, rather than because they’re uber rare or whatever.
This is a notion that only weirdos make.
People use something depending on how cool it looks or if it fits the style they’re trying to go with. So if something is easy to get and they want it, they’ll be happy and likely wear it everywhere.
I mean, I got things like Tyrael’s Charger or the Hivemind mount, and I’m not using any of such “Exotic mounts” because I don’t like how they look. I’m using a Flying Machine!
This only counts for those that care about rarity. Most people I imagine don’t care.
Or maybe they just like the model of the cars.
If I had a driver’s license I would want to drive around an Impala because of how nice it looks, regardless of the car’s rarity and expense.
I would disagree with that being a trait unique to any particular human culture, but more reflective of a common trait in any pack species…and that could still be debated as driven at a cellular level in all lifeforms.
Some peeps are driven by Prestige, others are not. It’s largely a marketing mirage in Human society, flattery grooming self-selecting targets.
You mean 99% of the playerbase and normal people in society? Not sure if you are trolling or not. Literally log into the game, go to any major city and count me the people you see on Bronze drake, Black drake, the basic faction mounts, etc. Not many, I can guarantee you. Also try to count people that are not using Transmog at all, and keept the original Items appearences. You are literally trying to deny basic human psychology, aka the need to be apreciated and to feel different then “the crowd”.
the outrage from comparison of final fantasy holidays where all rewards are guaranteed and chille vs wow hamster wheel made them change it as they saw ppl arent biting anymore(aka players werent engaging other than the few thousand hardcore whales)
Yes but isn’t the attraction of having amount is that hardly anyone else has it. I never knew about the 100% change and thought that I was a lucky duck until everyone else in area was flying about the area using it. Felt like running into a whole bunch of people with the exact same clothes as me.
It isn’t a very nice mount at all tbh. Can’t really complain about it being free though. At least my mount number went up 1.
