why are the mentenance 8 hours? what am i supposed to play?
The maintenance is as long as needed, can be shorter, or longer. Mostly it’s to put in the patches that require realms to be offline, other oily stuff behind-the-scenes by the goblins and gnomes, and some checkups.

we had 15 min maintenance last week and lost talent trees for 22 hours….
hype for new bugs… huge 8 hours.
wow is milking for Xbox .

Dude, this is an MMORPG. That is your answer to why it is taking 8 hours, but here is a summary:
Everything is getting cleared from the server side, logs are being taken and recorded to disc for every realm, every guild, every raid data, every instance… Most importantly for everyone. Every single sub and all of their characters. Many reasons behind that, but not gonna go into details as I am not an expert myself too. I’ve learnt those kinds of things from my colleagues and out of my own curiosity over the years.
Also, everything that has happened from the last reset to the recent reset are being backed up, same scale again, every realm, every guild, etc., etc.
Then the servers, physical ones, are getting reset. It is not like a 5-second. process.
Also, if there are changes to the game, all of those changes will be deployed with the reset, so new codes will be injected too.
I am pretty sure those long reset times include a buffer zone for unexpected issues too.
Basically, so many things are happening in the background, 8-10 hours sounds pretty normal to me for an MMORPG with this scale, this many users, and history, if you consider all other newer MMORPGs usually go for 6-10 hours maintenance too.
Your second question is up to you. Touch some grass, go outside maybe?

I am confused! It says maintenance 02:00-03:00 and 03:00-11:00. Why does it take too long? What are ou doing during 9 hours? Tell us, please!

That’s a different maintenance (for the BattleNet app. specifically).

They could learn something from Guild Wars 2, who doesn’t take the servers down for maintenance.
