A character with this name already exists

Hey,

I was playing on my main (Supergirlbun-Kazzak) when I got disconnected then when I try to log in it keeps saying “a character with this name already exists”. I have tried everything to get it work but still nothing. Obviously tried to do whatever the support said about this issue, however, the problem still occurs after several time.

Any idea how to deal with this issue tho?

This can happen when a disconnection or force-quit happens.

Try logging on as a different toon on the same realm - this can sometimes force the server to ‘realise’ that the other toon is no longer online.

If that fails, I’d suggest a password reset for your account - although I’m aware this isn’t ideal. You can see how to do this here:

I have literally tried everything. Logging in on the other character on the same realm, then logging back to the main - did not work. Tried to log in the alt then fully quit the game, still nope. Reseted my UI, manually unstucked the character through the support option, even tried through cmd - still nope. Have been struggling with this for hours now.
Had a faction change yesterday but have been playing since so do not think that is the issue tho.
Resetting the password did not help either.
Sometimes when it starts to load in, disconnects me again with the error of WOW51900319

That does sound very strange. I’m at a loss as to other suggestions to be honest. I’m assuming you’re an EU player…the realms all reset overnight (and, this week, have a major pre-patch loaded) so I wonder if that might ‘unstick’ your toon for you.

I have no other helpful suggestions I’m afraid.

Yeah, sadly I am out of options, waiting for getting help through my ticket. It is utterly annoying tho…

Yeah, did everything in cmd just as they wrote in that article but still not working

Did you try re-naming the files, wtf=wtfold, cache =cacheold etc?

I did, the problem still occurs sadly and no idea what I should do. They answered for my ticket simply writing the same as per in the article about this issue. It was not a big help and still can not log in after more than 7 hours. So literally I have no clue

Reopen the ticket if you can, and say exactly what you’ve tried so far otherwise they’ll keep suggesting the same things.
