A new race, is this a joke?!

I am super delighted they are adding Haranir.

As soon as I saw Orweyna in the cinematic I wanted them

I like Haranir generally, I think they look cool, but in my opinion they shouldn’t have been neutral. Would have been better to only add them to the Horde Faction, because they don’t fit thematically to the Alliance at all

The Haranir seem cool but there’s very little buildup and time we’ve spent with them. We’ve only dealt with one character (who’s banished from their society) and while we do have Haranir content, the whole introduction is just so a** backwards.

Excuse my bigotry, aren’t High Elves just blood elves and void elves split in 2? What would even make High Elves different?

We’re gonna get an entire zone for Haranir though in Midnight.

They are kind of Trolls that evolved similarly to Elves, but with bat features, and a different kind of energy. Seems cool to me. Though I think they should really have been part of the Horde, because they are very similar to Nightelves, while also having a strong Darkspear-Troll-vibe. They would have been the perfect Horde version of Nightelves.

We could have ogres, naga, tortollians, there are so many fun and cool races that could be made playable. I’m truly sick of the re-skins we get instead

Normally when a race is introduced, we already have had time with them and understand the background. The only exception to that so far has been Void Elves.

My issue is that without the shoehorning of their zone in the expansion (which was billed as Quel’thalas-focused), they’re really out of place. They would have made more thematical sense in TWW or even TLT, but not Midnight. It kind of throws the whole philosophy of “we add a race only if it makes sense to the story” out the window

Highmountain Tauren, Nightborne and Lightforged Draenei also were kind of new in Legion, no? I don’t really see the difference between us getting Haranir, and Highmountain Tauren. Haranir are even more unique, and had more content prior to MIdnight than HM Tauren had prior to Legion…

But the difference is we had time to quest and get to know the HM Tauren, Nightborne (especially Nightborne) and the LF Draenei throughout most of Legion before they were introduced as playable races in BFA’s prepatch.

You could counterargue that Orweyna is our introduction to the Haranir but we don’t get a closeup of their society in TWW. Like you said, we have to wait until Midnight to explore Harandar

These people don’t care. They just get satisfaction from spouting their same faulty arguments Ad nauseam.

Oh you mean the timing is wrong? Because we get Harandar, right, the Haranir zone. Just so I understand you. Is the problem, that we get it in patch 0, not that there is lack of introduction?

But why go by that logic when the very first races that we ever got where two races we had not encountered prior.

I don’t agree.
Allied races overal are STILL lacking in customization options to this day.
While the dracthyr, the most recent ‘race’ (not allied race) is brimming with options.

The earthen are probably the allied race with the most options at the moment (I could be wrong).

Oh for sure.

And you won’t get access to the allied race right away: You need to do the campaign, which will undoubtedly contain harranir parts. So, the same can be said that you ‘get time to quest and get to know the harranir’ as well. Better even, since we also met them in TWW.

My point was that Blizzard uses existing models and creates the new races primarily for the purpose of being NPCs (Earthen, Haranir, Dracthyr, etc.), and the amount of initial customization they have corresponds to how big a presence the NPCs have (who need to be varied in appearance). And then as a bonus they make that new race playable for players.

It’s efficiency in production and a way of maximizing the value of it by using it for multiple purposes.

It’s very effective and it’s been the approach for every single playable race Blizzard have added to the game. There’s no difference in design and production approach to any of them.

Except, you know. Clothes.

I mean the new race feels random. I don’t think I’d bother with unlocking them.

One exception: The Kul Tiran.
They weren’t originally planned to be an allied race, so they pivoted.

Well… On one of their two versions, sure.
And both versions have a plethora of character customization options.

And yes I’m jealous.
I want dual coloured hair for other races too! :disappointed_relieved:

I genuinely don’t know why we’re getting Haranir. I am not aware of anyone who wants to play one. I am aware of plenty of people who want overhauls for the existing races though.

To be honest im a bit dissapointed about the new allied race. Even BfA had like 10 allied races. Those who like the haranir, well im glad for you! But most people wanted forest trolls and ethereals. Lets hope they add more races later in this expansion, just like in BfA when they added more races mid expansion.
I dont want to be overly negative, but the ganeplay trailer was very underwhelming.

Some people are simply in denial.

The word Quel’dorei (Highborne in common) was originally a Darnassian term. It was used toward elites in the Kal’dorei Empire. The elves of the cities were regarded as more noble, while those who lived on the outskirts were considered lowborn.

Modern Thalassian elves are direct descendants of those Highborne, and the Blood Elves- who call themselves the Sin’dorei - are in truth High Elves. The decision of Silvermoon’s elves to rename themselves from Quel’dorei to Sin’dorei (Children of the Blood in common) was not a rejection of their heritage but a way to honor those who were slaughtered by Arthas and the Scourge. But it does not make them any less than what they were.

The so-called “exiled” elves chose to remain with the Alliance and kept the name Quel’dorei. To me, they are nothing, but traitors to their people. The Blood Elves, at the very least, had some sanity to remember and carry their fallen kin in their new name.

Some people simply cannot accept that such a noble race stands proudly within the Horde, and so they spend all their time demanding another version of Blood Elves- only with blue eyes. Which by the way is an option for the Blood and Void elves.
