But that is a parental issue, not the game’s now, isn’t it?
I agree with Aeilmar. But parents shouldn’t just let their kids “do whatever”
Where did I blame the game? Games can’t help that parents are stupid and kids ignore age ratings.
But still, calling out someone for something they might have done by accident is a bit brutal. I mean, of cource he/she should be avoided by young ones, but calling them out in eternity untill they basically stop playing is cruel. If you get what I mean.
Oh, sure, every ideal has its over-zealous participants. Me, I just want people to stop either doing it fully or laying it on thick in public. To me, that doesn’t seem like a massive expectation.
True. Of cource people shouldn’t do it in public, but they should be allowed to do it with another consenting adult on the other end. But I know that it gets kinda tricky at that point, because “How can you tell an adult from a kid”. You look at the way they write ffs. If you even think for a second “hmm, is this a person below or above 18 (15 in some countries and other ages aswell)” You should stop immediately, talking about ERP of cource.
Idk, thats just my though process.
I’ve done my fair share of calling out people in the past as well and I can’t necessarily tell you that it did more good than bad in terms of preserving young audience from seeing any NSFW content in the game. Fact is that many get hypocritical over that and assume that if kids play the game - they don’t read the forum, therefore forum, for whatever reason, is strongly believed to be 18+, hence everything is allowed to be posted.
You should see the forums the same way as ingame though. What if a 12 year old reads the forums and see your post with a picture linking to a site used by adults (refering to f-list in this case). You did as much bad as (maybe) good in that case.
Yeah but the alternative is that they don’t go to ground / continue doing this stuff in public
At the very least it leads to these people being a lot more careful / gung-ho
I used to go around reporting offending profiles there but the major problem is that many of them are trial accounts - there is basically no consequence for them because it takes all of 5 minutes to make a new one
A really cool change would be TRP being disabled for trial characters because ATM it is just used to bypass their chats being disabled
You shouldn’t ERP on WoW at all, given the age rating and the aforementioned risks. There’s are plenty of other avenues for you to find that sorta thing on 18+ websites dedicated to providing that ‘service’ etc
(I say you in the general sense, not to suggest you do it btw xx)
I agree in this case, about the public stuff. But someone who does it explicitely privately, should not be bullied to the point of deleting their character.
Yes, but that doesn’t change the fact that people do it.
But if it’s done explicitly in private how would the rest of us find out about it?
How would someone who does it absolutely privately ever even be found out? People often tout this ideal of harmless private cyber but it always seems to end up on the forums or in people’s btag announcements
If nobody knows, nobody can mention it - though as a wise forum poster once said, long ago:
I have heard of people doing ERP with a player, just to screen capture it and post it somewhere. Meaning someone who does it explicetely in private, gets “exposed” and is bullied/called out, unfairly.
Sounds really weird as they’d be exposing themselves too.
It’s a bit like helping someone murder a guy, then jumping up and shouting “Haha! Caught you now, murderer. I’ve recorded this and I’m taking it the police. You’re in real trouble now bucko.”
Not if they made a char for that specefic purpose. Think a bit plz.
Unironically this.
Also note that any ERP done in-game on WoW, public or private, is against the rules Daddy Blizzard has given us, and it’s difficult to ascertain the age of the other participating party (linking back into the underage player topic). Since there’s no safeguards to prevent someone underage from logging on and getting into some ERP, that makes it very risky ground. Ignorance is rarely accepted as an excuse.
It’s a bit different when it comes to stuff like F-List, because it is an explicitly explicit website, made for the purpose of facilitating ERP, with a mature content warning on the door. If someone were to use logs from there to shame someone else, it would purely be for the sake of character assassination, not any moral justification.
And on a bit of a tangent, using someone’s F-List as ammunition, provided it isn’t linked in their in-game profile or otherwise advertised, is very weak sauce. Of course, the people in question should have better sense than to make it so obviously them, but I’d far rather they keep it all there than bring it to the game.
