Why do you buy PvP / PvE boosts? I don’t see anything wrong with it -people can do what they want with their money, but can you help me understand it? Especially the higher-end boosts like M Jailer or Glad are so obscenely expensive and many people still buy them.
My train of thought is this: even if you get a mount/title, every time you use it, you know you didn’t earn it. Also if you rely on boosting to play your chosen content, you have to do it every tier, spending copious amounts of gold or money.
So can some of you friendly boost buyers offer me your perspective on this? Also, if you want to bash boosted people, this thread is not for you.
I will bash boosted people and the people responsible for dozens of ads in the que’s if i want to.
Those who buy boosts are responsible for the qu’s having dozens and dozens of ads. Blizzards complicity needs to be addressed as they are not doing enough to stop the proliferation of WTS ads.
To quickly gear up characters.
Since high gear is more fun than low geared.
I don’t feel any less about my KSM mount just bought i bought 20 M+15.
I like it very much actually
I do feel bad for those that choose to do it the legit way since it’s annoying and time consuming, and i got every run cleared in time first time no problem.
(Some boosters are incredibly fast tho, I had some guys do Tyrannical ToP in less than 20 minutes, and that’s just 4 people… not 5 since i sat a tthe start)
Buying boosts is not for someone who has limited income, and i usually go all out on just the last patch, since it lasts longer.
Which is why i am annoyed they decided to bring out another patch, since my gear will be outdated soon then.
There are two different categories of boosting, those that want something they can’t have and those that are lazy.
The lazy people value their time more than money and for many of us, we’d rather spend a few hours work to get a million gold (via wow tokens) and invest it in our alts than we would grinding and climbing the ladder.
I play my main for the experience and the fun, I do whatever with my alts, I’ve already completed my goals.
The former camp, those that boost because they cannot otherwise do the content are the ones doing it for the reward; whether that be a mount or title or achievement or w/e.
Back when communities were legit, I’ve worked with them and offered boosts to people and generally we don’t discriminate, if you wanna buy curve because you can’t kill the boss, then you do you. However, I will say that in my experience, the vast majority were there to save time on alts, not because they needed it.
However at the end of the day, whether you buy gold with wow tokens or earn it with professions, all a boost is, is an exchange of services for currency and it’s no different to paying an alchemist to make you a flask.
Will continue regardless of what people do, even one of their own (Mike Ybarra) is part of the boosting scene.
It’s all about laziness, finances and FOMO, y’know.
I was talking to one guy that bought gold from sellers and then wasted them to boosts exclusively back in day. His idea was about money and time effectiveness. He said that with his income from $$$/hour perspective it’s more practical to buy gold rather than waste time for farming. And he had very little time to waste it tryharding and progressing in raids. He wanted all that rewards tho, so boosting was the only chance to him to look at the hardcore content and its rewards.
And FOMO rewards is something to think about. If you look at current situation, there are things that will be gone in two weeks – red KSM mount, for example. Some people just realized that too late, have no double leggo/4PC to push it by themselves. Some of them have no straight hands or bad reaction to push high keys. But they want the rewards, so boosting is their only chance to get it.
Nah. Mostly it’s just all about obtaining fancy title, skin or something like that before it’s gone. It’s not about «woah he did AotC back in times, what a chad», and AotC/CE achievements are just another achievements and not real feat of strength for idk, 4 addons in a row? Things like these are impressive only if it’s from REALLY old content. For real example, back in times I did HM Garrosh and got the armored wolf that is unobtainable now. It was not paid boost but technically it was free helping AotC group in raid that was already nerfed to hell and below. It was not something ambitious to think about years later. It was just all about fancy mount.
Overall it’s just difficulty bypass straight to rewards for those that can’t do content themselves. In some sense it’s cheating, you can think about it as a semi-legal bribe. But since it’s allowed by blue bois, there’s nothing you can do.
youre right tho ina way theyve earned the gold theyve spent on it so they kinda earned it just differntly. personally i wouldnt pay for a boost becuase like you say it would kill the feeling of achievement but i can kinda see from the other side
In the past when I actually cared, I usually bought full HC carries or just curve to get into pugs faster. I know I’m a good player and I was confident in my knowledge of the fights / classes I played with, so the only thing missing was the actual achievment.
But now that I don’t give a crap about any of that, I buy PVE content that awards me with mounts, since this is the only thing I care about. Gear lasts for 5-6 months tops and then gets devalued so fast, and it’s easier to get it from M+ anyways. Vanity is the only thing to show for, rest is a waste of time - this is ofcourse my personal opinion so no need to quote me on that
Keep in mind, that with the supply of the boosts, it’s actually really cheap. For example, I bought the Sylvanas Mythic mount for 800k - imagine putting in the effort of killing her and actually getting the mount vs. farming 800k gold. Or imagine getting all glories of SL raids done with a regular grp instead of paying 500k - 1 Mil for each. It’s just so affordable.
Maybe some people don’t have a guild but really want a mount locked behind a aotc or something, so they buy it, i don’t see anything wrong with that.
That’s obviously not their motivation.
But it’s like with buying anything - people didn’t earn the mounts they bought from the AH, they didn’t earn the BoEs they bought. It’s just an exchange that people see as more of an investment.
For many it’s not about the feeling of “earning” something, but rather it’s about “clearing content”. It’s much more dispassionate engagement with the game, and paying for a boost is often the most optimal way to clear content. They don’t want to be in a guild and spend 2 months progressing, only to find out they don’t have the people and skill to clear specific content. It’s just optimizing the way they beat the game.
I’d never buy a boost, as it makes the game meaningless to me, but to people with other goals and other perspectives and motivations to play the game, boosts are the best way to play.
And it is important to recognize that a successful game is a game that can be engaged with on a variety of levels, so different players can find different “stages of completion” that resonate with them. A game that can only be engaged with on a single level is a game that can only attract a single type of player. And that’s not always good.
For example, Sekiro, by removing co-op, leveling, customization from the Souls formula became a game that’s only liked by those who already like what Sekiro specifically is. If you didn’t like how the katana plays, you don’t really have an option but to return the game. Bloodborne, Elden Ring on the other hand allow you to customize the game to your liking - what weapon are you gonna use, are you going to use NPC summons, player summons? Are you going to solo every boss? It’s all up to you to decide. Same with boosts.
Well everyone plays the game to have fun, if someone is willing to spend a lot of money to buy WoW tokens to buy boost, and in the end he will be happy, who am I to judge. I personally wouldnt do that, but if someone wants to and be happy, good for them.
On the other hand there are people who play and earn a lot of gold themselves, and well if they buy their boost at least they can kinda feel that they earned whatever they buy as they spend their time to earn gold which allowed them to earn whatever boos they bought.
I dont really mind boost, but I am really annoyed by all the spam in trade chats and premade groups finder.
Thank you all for the replies! Haven’t had time to reply to each of you individually, but I read everything and there are some interesting perspectives.
U buy mount curve becouse it’s going away and mythic jailer becouse it gets 1% next expnasion.
Just look at nyaloth raid atm u can’t even kill the boss in a pug becouse it’s to hard.
And nyloth is still 1% + u can’t even do it in a pug.
Buying a curve boost is a good way to get the mount for a very small price (50 k ish ?) if you don’t want to bother to learn the raid.
Buying mythic boost : don’t know how it could be worth it given that it is millions.
Mythic plus boost : very useful for dps rerolls that have not proven their worth yet, having a 15 key for the next week being the most valuable part.
As I’ve said previously. I’ll never understand it. It’s like paying someone to watch a movie for you.
The content is there for you to enjoy, why pay someone to skip to the end of it. Especially when it’s to get a title or a mount. It’s so painfully obvious when people get boosted. Tainting your character with a bad reputation to get something that people will instantly know you bought a boost for seems like an odd way to spend your gold.
Each to their own I guess
Becouse i got no time to raid, i am sitting zereth mortis atm ownig all rares 24/7 for paragon rep, omw 14th box atm still no mount recipe.
I don’t wanna be booked raid every day for like 5 hours, it’s not my thing.
I would buy it if it was cheap, because I want to play bgs with full gear.
This is how I feel myself, and it’s why I wouldn’t buy boosts, at least not for that reason.
I’ve never actually bought a boost, but the one time I seriously considered it was back in BfA when a certain essence that was considered BiS for my spec for PvE content was only available through PvP. I talked to a couple of boosting communities, but in the end didn’t go ahead with it because I discovered I could get rank one of the essence by just being there when my faction won BGs, and I never had to go in arena and actively do PvP at all. I decided rank one was enough!
Fel no!
I wanted the N’Zoth dragon for my voidy Elf and be darn if I ever wondered “man, did I earned to ave that?”
No
I wanted it, I got it
In my eyes, I have totally earned it, worked hard for that gold, and let my minions… err… boosters do the heavy lifting
Skins, transmogs, mounts… trust me, who buy a boost only want to HAVE that stuff, and you will never find one with moral dilema about it
Why is Elon taking his plane to have a nice breakfast in France? Cuz he can. What else is there to do if you got the money?
