Noone is forcing you to take part in that culture. There are plenty of guilds out there who can’t be bothered with speedruns and doesn’t require purgeable world buffs who still clear bwl in much less than an hour. If you feel world buffs is a waste of time you should consider getting a new guild. World buffs are fine as they are.
i personally find it a fun challenge to collect all the world buffs while avoiding the dispellers.
so far it has changed the way we do raids on my server fundamentally.
first we had to start going to southern felwood for our songflower since flight path is more or less permanently occupied by either a Nelf priest in shadowmeld or simply any kind of priest standing around in ghost form (dead) and waiting for a bunch of buff hungry horde to show up, then spawn and dispel as many people as possible before inevitably being killed (which is simply part of their plan).
the alliance caught on to this and started sending small squads of gankers to southern felwood, presumably having an extra horde character on a secondary account to watch for songflower timers so they can show up just in time to ruin our day.
this caused players like myself to send ‘scout’ characters to felwood to check for squads before sending my main in to grab a songflower, which so far has resulted in some genuinely fun world pvp encounters and made people coordinate in the general/world chat, report sightings and such.
this is a process that keeps evolving, both sides keep coming up with clever ways to either gank or avoid being ganked in their quest to obtain every single world buff possible at min/max efficiency.
another good example is how Kargath is no longer a valid point for raids to assemble for MC/BWL since the dispellers found out that its thee best place to stand around with a dispeller if you want to maximize the griefing of enemy raids, so the response to this is summoning inside the mountain in front of the raid entrances, which, again makes for some interesting world pvp situations as a raid of the opposite faction can show up at any moment and wipe yours.
it gets the adrenaline pumping and its genuinely exciting, so take your filthy casual “pls wbuff removal” attitude somewhere that isn’t a pvp server if you can’t handle the heat bro. you knew what you signed up for when you hit that “THIS IS A PVP SERVER, DO YOU ACCEPT THE TERMS?”-button.
EDIT: see i knew people would use the black lotus ‘fix’ as an excuse to get through more ‘fixes’ (changes) it was the first thing i said when the blue poster came up, and i received a lot of abuse for making that thread. ironically people used changes that were made long before the lotus change as an excuse to justify the lotus change, which now has created a viscous cycle of “but X was changed, so why not Y?” as brilliantly demonstrated in threads like this one.
Blaming this mentality on retail is hilarious.
If anything it came straight from private servers
I hate that world buffs too. But the reason is not the preparation part. World buffs make all gear progression idle and useless. They are just way too powerfull.
Imagine, you play 6 months and get all your bis gear. Actually it is nothing because a new 60 will be more powerful than you just by waiting at DM, STV, SW etc.
what have you been smoking?
world buffs exacerbates the effectiveness of your gear even further lmao!
songflower increase your crits with melee and spells, and gives you 15 to all stats
- your gear is now more effective.
ony buff gives you even more crit with melee and spells, and gives you an AP buff
- your gear is now more effective.
Rend/(whatever the alliance counterpart is) gives you 15% attack speed, 300 HP and 10 Mp5
- your gear (mainly your melee weapon) is now way more effective.
DMT buffs increase your spell crit by 3%, AP by 200 and total stamina by 15%(!!!)
- your gear is now WAY more effective
Hakkar buff increases your movement speed by 10% and all stats by 15%
- your gear AND songflower AND druid buff AND DMT Stamina buff is now more than double as effective.
Darkmoon dmg buff increase your damage (both melee and spell) by 10%(!!!)
- YOUR GEAR IS NOW SUPREMELY F***ING EFFECTIVE
like dude have you ever heard of gear scaling ?!
a fresh 60 with full world buffs will NEVER be able to outperform a BIS 60 with full world buffs EVER.
Thanks for advanced mechanics lesson man. But i was not talking about it.
I wanted to say: just waiting at some spot for a buff adds more value to your char than farming content 6 months.
I remember a talk with the guy who invented this world buff thingy. He was saying that: “we put world buffs just for a small help for questing people. Never imagined players use them in raids to make content a breeze.”
World buffs are ok, but just way too powerfull and it was a mistake.
Thats why they removed them at TBC and never thought to bring back for 14 years.
I wanted to say: just waiting at some spot for a buff adds more value to your char than farming content 6 months.
yeah okay but why don’t you take factors like, oh i dunno, doing both into account?
just seeing darkmoon faire today all these purgers lol
That “who guild” at least didn’t disbanded in TBC due of them getting trashed by EU guild for the whole expansion.
NA lul
You raid with full wbuffs and flask and you still need 2 raid days to clear the content? Dafuq man
Just died at DMF with Tribute, Ony and ZG already on me. I’m seriously considering just unsubbing until TBC. World buffs are cancer, it’s sucking all the fun out of the game for me. It’s beyond toxic, I now feel apprehension instead of anticipation for the DMF week speedruns because it means basically spending all your free time on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday getting griefed and then coming with only Ony anyway and being the weakest dps despite having an entire bag full of consumes.
This is ridiculous, I’m literally on the verge of quitting the game over a thing that is supposed to make your raiding easier. It’s staggering how terrible the design choice was in retrospect.
I can not put into words how much I despise the fact that the world buffs exist right now. And yeah, I know I’m giving the griefers what they want to hear, but I don’t care, I’m literally overflowing with negative emotions and need to express them.
You know what the punchline is? My guild doesn’t even require them! Not even for DKP bonus anymore. I really just might quit over this, why play a game that makes me hate myself and the world.
Haha you better quit if you can’t appreciate pvp servers.
You think world buffs are a terrible design choice? I think they provide a lot of content on pvp servers
just dont do worldbuffs simple (?)
simple solution: dont get dispelable worldbuffs?!
or dont roll pvp server.
ye what a smart move to get all wb then go to horde zone DM xD
i really hope you are trolling
Why would I troll? I had about 2 hours of free time before noon today, spent 1h20m of it sitting in front of DMN asking to buy an ID. Then got the 12:57 Ony and a ZG buff by chance in BB on the way to Mulgore. If I did DMF first it would be gone by the time I got to BRM. How else would you do it you were forced to get world buffs solo two days before raid time?
I might squeeze in another hour if i wake up early on Wednesday, to get DMF>Songflower>SW port and then remote desktop the mid-Wednesday Ony, but I will already be at a disadvantage without DMT and ZG.
Not everyone can just log in on Tue or Wed afternoon to get ported around by guildies and get everything safely with 20 warm bodies around you. Of course I wouldn’t mind the world buffs all that much if I were still in HS/Uni with literally 0 responsibilities.
And yeah, ofc I won’t quit the game over a fcuking buff, I literally just tabbed away from the two rogues at DMF spam spitting my corpse high on adrenaline when I wrote that post. Suppose I just have to accept being right above tank on this next speedrun again. Life is suffering.
Edit: yeah, and fortune has a 4h cooldown that only ticks when online, so I have to find a way to have the game running for 4 h between now and wed morning on my home PC without logginng out. Another brilliant idea by Blizzard.
Raid buffs were never part of the original Vanilla Experience, atleast not in the way as they are “exploited” now.
You should have listened to us, when we were saying: “Don’t listen to these people, they just want to make your life miserable, don’t roll on pvp servers”. Now you are moaning they are attacking and dispelling you.
Resolution = reroll PVE server or stop being such a softie cry baby
This doesn’t even compare to BL.
In Black Lotus’s case it was a problem affecting all servers. You couldn’t even say “just join a low pop server”, because the low pop servers were being farmed by botters who thus would transfer to high pop servers.
In the case of WBuffs, though, there’s a very easy fix: transferring/rerolling on a PvE server. You accepted to bear with this when you rolled on a PvP server.
its hard to have sympathy for you when you go about getting the world buffs incorrectly.
here is the order in which you should get your world buffs.
Hakkar > Ony/DMF > DMT > Rend (or whatever alliance equivalent is) > Songflower
you pretty much did it in the opposite fashion, which is like begging to be ganked.
oh, and when you guys fancy making priests for the sole intention of dispelling horde players 24/7 - some guilds are actually dedicated to do strictly this all day every day, you better be damn sure the horde will take vengeance whenever they can, however they can. and to all those people out there currently leveling a priest, don’t be surprised if you get corpse camped A LOT at what must seem like complete random.
just an hour ago i went for my own DMF buff after getting my DMT buffs only to realize a priest was waiting around as a ghost, and immediately spawned to dispel me as i grabbed my DMF… now i could have been smart about it, and simply waited for my pvp tag to go away, but i wanted to save precious minutes on my buffs and ended up screwing myself over even harder, resulting in me having to buy the buffs a second time.
oh and one more thing; alliance were camping their DMF all days of all of the week when it was in Elwynn forest, and cowardly hid behind the goldshire guards when the horde fought back against them, so you can be damn sure that the horde will do the same thing all day and all week… except we don’t have guards to hide behind, nor do we need any.
summation: GG mister priest, you got me. won’t be making the same mistake twice. have fun spending the next week being in ghost form in mulgore
