[A-RP] Night Elf Roleplay – Tips & Information

Putting this up here as well.

Notices are found posted around Feathermoon Stronghold and the Tower of Estulan:

Caution advised when traversing the road between Estulan’s Tower and Feathermoon Stronghold. Ogre slavers have been sighted harassing travellers and caravans on the outskirts of Eldre’thalas. Should you find yourself in battle with these ogres; bring proof of their demise to Captain Featherwind in Feathermoon for recognition and recompense.

-Ten silvers per head.
Greetings night elf roleplayers (and others)! First of, my gratitude to Acrona for permitting me to use this thread to post this, I guess you could call it an interest check.

I’d like to present you with an idea with the purpose of promoting more casual roleplay around Feralas/Southern Kalimdor outside of guilds and community events. This idea is simply called Feathermoon Noticeboard and as the name suggests it’s a board on which you can find bounties, trade/craft commissions and advertisements that's free for anyone to use and incorporate into their own roleplay.

For the moment the noticeboard will be put up on the guild thread of the Bladecrest Sentinels, easily accessible on the second post, as a way to test the waters and see if this is a thing people may use frequently. If such is the case, it might become a thread on its own in the future and even expand beyond the confines of Feralas to perhaps include settlements such as Astranaar and Darnassus as well.

Important notice.
Let’s point out the elephant in the room here. This is by NO means an attempt to control the roleplay happening in Feralas. It’s there to be used at players own discretion. We don’t intend to force it onto others if they don’t want to acknowledge its existence.

How will this work?

The noticeboard will be attached to the Bladecrest Sentinels forum thread and accessible to read on the second post. It’ll be split into two different sections: bounties & trade. Whenever a new notice is put up it’ll be mentioned in a separate post and then also copied over to the board itself.

Can I put up my own stuff?

Of course! The idea with this initiative is to see how many would use such a thing, and if enough do, eventually expand on it. To put up your own notice simply write it out in a post and I’ll make sure to pin it when I can. You could also opt to PM me in game if you’d prefer. If a note is no longer relevant let me know as well so I can have it removed.

If you intend on making Feathermoon an active hub will your guild act as guards?

No. As mentioned before, the initiative is by no means whatsoever an attempt to police or control the area. Due to the complex nature of the law enforcement trope we’ll be steering clear of it as much as possible and would prefer if people who wish to play out law breaking/general troublemaking take into consideration the numerous sentinel NPCs stationed in the stronghold. That is not to say we’re against cooperation between would-be-bad guy roleplayers, so long as it’s planned out appropriately to satisfy both parties. At the end of the day, it’s about what’s fun and engaging for those involved.

Will the bounties be DM’d?

Maybe, and not necessarily by the poster, but rather the people interested in engaging with the bounty and include it into their stories. Again, this is meant to serve as a tool more or less and give people ideas to play with.

That should be everything covered. If any doubts or concerns, let me know.
The noticeboard can currently be found here:

If you'd like to see this as a thread on its own with added elements to it (such as a rumor mill?), let me know of this as well.
Thank you again for the Jurina'tore event Tinwëtar & co! It was enjoyable!

I hope the noticeboard initiative will generate some roleplay in Feralas Saleysea! I think it's a great idea.

Guild listing updates:

- Removed Malor Delar as I've been unable to get hold of them in-game, and based on the guild thread I suspect they're not active anymore. If someone knows better, please correct me if I'm wrong and they'll be added back!

- Added the Moonblade Watchers. Check them out!

Interested in how to roleplay a night elf Watcher? The following article might be helpful!

Edit: Removed also The Moonleaf Grove from the list as they seem to
be on a quiet mode at the moment. If it's active, members please let me know!
As for now, the Moonblade Watchers will turn active in the comming week :)

Decided to see how this actually fares as a thread on its own because I realize it's not very inviting to be used if it's slammed on a guild thread where it's intertwined with other stuff that's not really related to it.

You can find this new thread here:

https://eu.battle.net/forums/en/wow/topic/17616461871#1

Figured since it's Kalimdor it might be of interest to night elf roleplayers!

Great initiative Sal, looking forward to see what the populace is gossiping in Kalimdor!
Do we know if the Tal-ashar honor duel tradition we take part in within Suramar is one spread to the Night Elf civilization at large? As they call it ancient I would assume it was part of it, atleast before the War of the Ancients.

The honor duel to the death connotations seems to clash a little with the current Night Elf culture, although I could personally see it being alive among the Highborne atleast.
I am not sure of the history of Tal-ashar, but will definitely look into it. As far as duelling goes, I remember it written on some wiki page that before WotA it sometimes happened that those mesmerized by Queen Azshara would duel each other and that the queen didn't always intervene to save them from harm. I'll try find the source. (Edit: After quick browsing, I can't seem to find this anymore on Azshara's Wowpedia page. It seems there's also more information added about her after Legion expansion. Wowpedia has notes about Tal-ashar though: https://wow.gamepedia.com/Tal%27ashar )

I wouldn't think that the honor duel to death is a thing in the modern night elf society, I can't picture Tyrande or Malfurion supporting the idea.

P.S. I'll try see if I can arrange some kind of a Kalimdor gathering for night elves/draenei/worgen related to Argus in the near future!

That'd be pretty wizard.
Update: Found what I was looking for, under Lady Vashj's page:

The queen did indeed possess amazing charisma, and she doubtless enhanced it with magic. With a quiet word or a mere glance, Azshara could inspire any number of violent emotions; passion and rage were her favorite choices. Driven by sudden outbreaks of jealousy, her subjects occasionally squabbled over her affections and fought duels in the name of her honor. The queen was amused by such displays and did not always intervene to save the combatants from harm. It was precisely this sort of possessive fury that affected Vashj when Azshara and her handmaidens paid a visit to High Priestess Tyrande Whisperwind.

Original source appears to be War of the Ancient novels

Hope to see you there! I'll just poke some people first before deciding on the date.

This sounds exciting.

I'd love to attend. It's been a while since I did any active roleplay on the Alliance.

This might match up well with the Sunfury Assembly Meeting as well, if you can get enough people to get involved.
Updated the guild list - I'll try reach Thornroot and Gläedr to ask about the current status of The Cenarion Guardians and the Mandala'dor.

There's an upcoming campaign in Darkshore by Kaliyra and Saenon:

'Close to Home' - Darkshore Campaign

https://eu.battle.net/forums/en/wow/topic/17616832438

Edit: Also added links to the article and video of Argus Crisis Gathering: Kalimdor Forces event in the archive post.

Edit 2: According to Gläedr the Mandala'dor is still active!
I'm not sure about the current activity level of the hubs (mainly Astranaar and Feathermoon) but many of the guilds are still going strong!

Some recent stuff:

Added the newly starting The Spear of Elune to the guilds list - best of luck with kicking things off! The majority of their RP is planned to be focused on the Eastern Kingdoms.

Edit: Changed the thread title to [A-RP] Night Elf Roleplay – Tips & Information as it better reflects what the thread has evolved into.
Tirye has put up a lovely thread that contains plenty of information gathered from questing in Teldrassil on his night elf alt:

Saleysea has made two initiatives related to Battle for Azeroth:

Campaign: Embers of War [Date TBA]

The new Warcraft Chronicle Volume 3 is out, and I thought it might be good to put here some newly revealed information/tidbits concerning night elf lore.

Regarding the Highborne of Dire Maul:

In Year 25, the Horde raided Dire Maul and banished its source of corruption, Immol'thar, to the Twisting Nether. The prince personally rallied his followers and attacked the Horde, only to be killed by them.[5]

https://wow.gamepedia.com/Prince_Tortheldrin
Chronicle 3, page 120

The prince is confirmed deceased in lore, despite the Ashbringer artifact quest in Legion (which seemed like a throwback in time due to Nefarion being alive as well).

In Year 25, the majority of elves, including the prince, was killed by the Horde when they raided Dire Maul. The surviving ones fled the ruined city and wandered in the woods for years.

https://wow.gamepedia.com/Shen%27dralar
Chronicle 3, page 120

I just ordered the book and expect to have it next week, and I'll see if there's extra information on the above bits. If anyone else has any updates/new information concerning night elf lore from the book, feel free to share them here!

I'll have to think about how to incorporate this to the background of my Highborne characters who should've been there at the time.

Rest now, sweet prince. You will be avenged.

The news that it was the Horde that cleared Dire Maul, Immol'thar and Prince Tortheldrin does come as a suprise to me. I always assumed it would have been the Alliance. I'm going to have to do a few tweaks here and there and turn Kaldrinal's anti-Horde dial up a notch. Blood elves and Nightborne are still cool with him though.
