My quotation marks should have fixed the issue. I didn’t really intend to claim OP’s guild is “bad”, its what I gathered some people here thought about it.
I’m the first person to stand up against people being abused on these forums, and I always have been. I’m against the superior attitude a lot of roleplayers exhibit, and I won’t deny there has been a fair amount in this thread - but none of it is anywhere near abuse & none of it has so much at hinted at Harold personally. His guild post and concept are under attack because that is exactly what these forums are for - discussion. Whether that be positive, negative, involving the OP or not involving them (as he seems to have moved on). I won’t accept that we should all politely exit this thread because it no longer adds to his guild concept because we are all more than within our rights to discuss this publicly-published thread for as long as we feel we want to.
The minute someone starts slandering the guy himself - sure, I’ll change my tune and stand up for him, that’s not on. But regardless of people spewing trash, I’ll continue to discuss the thread for as long as I feel I have something to say.
Hey, that’s up to you. I just find people get a little bit too invested and ruthless in crapping over concepts lately.
It’s common place on the AD forums. You’ll never find a more craven den of malice and hypocrisy.
Im just so tired of this kind of crap tbh. Its non stop on the forums and I just dont see any benefit to it at all. Let him do what he wants because it doesnt actually affect us.
Again, it doesn’t explicitly need to benefit anybody. A lot of discussion goes round and round until it ends nowhere, but that doesn’t mean the discussion itself shouldn’t have happened. Unfortunately regardless of how tired of it you are, you will not change people’s internet habits (I’ve tried) and you will not develop this forum past the stage it’s currently in. If it bothers you that much I would genuinely advise you to stop visiting this site, because that’s the only way you’ll get yourself any peace of mind.
The forums aren’t all like this though. There are plenty of threads that are positive and non toxci. All I see here is everyone attacking this one guy and his guild. You can call it discussion but it looks like insulting to me and that’s not productive or helpful to anyone.
Look, will you both just stop derailing this poor guy’s thread? If you’re that aggrieved, make a thread to discuss it.
Look at this lemon
No one says he is not able to do so…? Constructive feedback was aimed at why it is frowned upon to do so, not that he should seize that immediately.
Anything that can be regarded as unnecessary trolling and points-earning attention can always be ignored by taking a high road, which most of the people, actually, do by refusing to take notice of poorly made one-liners.
Hear, hear.
I feel offended
Honestly this is just pretty mean-spirited at this point. Kind of regret my own joke in hindsight. There’s constructive criticism and then there’s outright hostility, and hiding behind the “it’s just discussion” excuse doesn’t really do much.
Just let him do it if he wants to.
To be honest,
Harold most likely has more islands than these sheepish forum “critics” have roleplay characters. Which is unironically very based, so yeah don’t listen to most of these forum bozo’s, they’re like off-milk, nobody really wants them on the forums, guilds or the server.
Do you intend to use any zone in-game to reflect these ‘Victory Isles’ and if so, which one?
Or is it simply there to serve as the narrative backdrop for the guild as they roam the world in pursuit of bad guys?
If the first, does that mean there’ll be room for prisoner roles within the guild?
And, if the second, then what makes the isles relevant for the characters if they are rarely, if at all, going to see it?
The background story seems nice and well thought out but it’s kind of vague regarding how significant a part it’ll have in the guild’s roleplay. Right now, it seems like it could be just about any mercenary group out there, if with a certain twist. And that’s good! Twists are nice, and the idea of the Rams Garde mainly striving to capture their targets instead of killing them is one with the potential leading to a lot of interesting roleplay and development for the characters involved.
There’s definitely stuff of meaty substance in your post here but I honestly think you should consider re-evaluating the way it’s presented because, much like Matheson have already pointed out, the OP leaves a lot up to interpretation and while you shouldn’t have to make a tedious text explaining very elaborately every single goal you have for the project and how you intend to reach them, it certainly doesn’t stop you from making some sort of cohesive list of stuff that your guild can offer the individual member.
Right now there’s a lot of fluff (not necessarily a bad thing!) but little actual appealing points that’d spark my interest as a potential prospect for joining.
I apologize if this at all sounded patronizing. It’s not my intent to talk down on your concept because I do see the potential in some of the components. I hope that came across well enough in my reply.
Might I advise a small sneak peak of a potential plot or storyline in development? With an end goal to this storyline, which might peak the interest if possible recruits.
The isles will be present, but not planned as a vissit yet, but I will take a look at Tol Barad to see if there are some places there to be used as a placeholder. But mainly Victor Isles won’t be used as the guild will be a mainland unit and the only main interaction the guild will have with the isles is basicaly just the ships wich sends the prisoners over to the isles, so when a criminal is apprehanded he will be brought to the shores where one of Harolds ships lays waiting. Other from that it is just mainland events.
I will give better replies when I get home, I just wish to say now, thank you lots for your patience, and for that there is a change in how things are put forth rn, as I frankly were planning on just ditching the whole forums after all the unneccecary trolling. And don’t fear, I can take critizism, just keep it serious and don’t talk yourself down with attempts of breaking myself. It just don’t hold water, and yes, I see it.
I don’t think some of the people here are being dilberately mean, I think they’re genuinely trying to give you some significant feedback that can help you improve your concept and make it more appealing to players. I’ve seen some of your interactions in the Cathedral District. With your character’s insistence on discipline and following orders, and must do what they’re told.
I have every faith that the tone isn’t the one you meant to set out but your recruitment might go better if you turn the question back to the one asking about your guild. Find out what their character’s are looking for, what they would like and trying show some interest in them in return, what’s their backstory?
I really feel your concept could do with a brief look-over and see if there’s anything else you can provide players to keep them engaged and coming back for more.
Edit 1: Looking for others who’re interested in assisting you with running this operation. Because (while I’ve never ran a guild) I’ve read that it can be quite demanding and having a solid core that can support you and have your back is invaluable.
Yes, thank you. I can see that people try, but pushing my nerves is not the right way to go. I will take into considderation about the involement. However as I can say, till now for IC interactions I haven’t really gotten the chanse as people turn me down as soon as they hear about dicipline and uniforms xD
