[A-RP][Criminal] Bleak Street Blighters

“The Bleak Street Blighters? Well ain’t they a friendly bunch! They toss me a good’ol copper once in a while. Saints! Saints, I tell ya!” - Ron Barnsley, professional hobo.

“Men and women deprived of all honour, is what they are! Blightin’ our farms, demandin’ their stake in our livestock. They may get my fear, but they ain’t gettin’ my respect!” - Brandon Harry, Westfall Farmer.

“The Blighters have been causing all sorts of trouble in Westfall over the past years. Theft, smuggling, bribery, kidnapping. I assure you, we are working tirelessly to make sure that these scum of the earth rot in the deepest cells of the Stockades!” - Guard Thomas, The Westfall Brigade.

“I ain’t speakin’ a word bad ‘bout the Blighters. No, Sir! I ain’t gettin’ blight shoved down my throat today. If they come ‘round, pay the price and live life to its fullest.” - Josh Tarvin, Butcher

Backstory

The Bleak Street Blighters

Stretching out from Moonbrook, running along the edge of Dagger Hills and towards Duskwood, runs Bleak Street. A street deprived of its former glory, housing only ravaged farms and crops. The men who once lived here saw their homes, families and heritage fade away by the ignorance of the Alliance. The corruption started from the higher echelons, but truly exploded in the lowest. Having grown tired of the hopelessness of living a fair life and fighting the wealthy for remaining fed, a group of men lead by the notoriously shady farmer John “Cotton” decided to find fortune elsewhere.

Surely the Bleak Street was poor and dry in its presence, but it was rich in many other ways. Daily, travelers and couriers from the southern part of the Kingdom traveled through. Either with wares meant for the Defias or simply transporting the little goods Westfall had to offer. Here the group had found its goldmine.

Naturally under the Defias’ presence, these endeavours could not last for long. Hanging only in a thin thread, Cotton and his men of bandits were swallowed up by the Defias, having to work as a subgroup to both provide them with stolen goods or simply snatch up caravans ordered by the Brotherhood itself. For years this one-sided partnership continued to Cotton’s great dismay.

The plotting to break loose from the chains started immediately. A former apothecary known as Thomas Peters, whom also had seen his business and lineage diminish, joined up with the group of subdued men. Thomas had long experimented on a acidic liquid similar to the Forsaken’s blight. Being under the heel of the Defias or the ignorance of the Alliance hurt them, and it had to be fought against.

To the group’s satisfaction Heroes of Azeroth suddenly raided the Deadmines, removing the Defias nearly all together. With Westfall now released from the tyrannic grasp, the barren land suddenly found itself deprived of proper outlaws to fill the hole Defias left behind. With a storage filled with the blight the apothecary produced, the gang decided to use it for their own gain, expanding their vision from the Brotherhood to the land itself.

For years the Bleak Street Gang traveled from farm to farm, offering the farms protection in exchange for a percentage of their income, stock and loyalty. Should the deal be denied, they’d bring fear and desperation upon the farm, depriving it of what they cherished the most - their way of living. The farmers and business owners with a backbone to turn the gang down were forced to witness their crops, wares, home and sometimes family blighted.

Men of the law, farmers, merchants and alike fell under the Bleak Street Blighters’ ruthless control. But knowing all too well that Westfall had lower potential, Cotton sent a splinter of the Blighters to expand the turf.

Your either travel through Bleak Street, or the Bleak Street travels to you.

The Concept!

The Bleak Street Blighters is our take on a realistic approach to criminal RP, where your characters are the (below)Average-Joes. The very scum of the earth, rough-skinned labourers having lost their land, outcasts of society longing for companions, thieves never having seen a brighter day in its life.
What started out as an antagonist for a different guild quickly turned into a fully fleshed out concept. The initial idea was to have a guild of bandits, thugs and scoundrels to breathe life into the golden gem that is Westfall. However we quickly realised that in order to make the guild to survive, we had to look outwards, but to use Westfall as the very foundation of the concept. Stormwind is currently used as the main base of operations, but we seek to make our feet touch the soil of just about every land in Eastern Kingdoms that we can realistically reach. This will mostly be done through the veil of a trading company named “Bleak Street Trading”, currently set up in a worn down shelter in Mage Quarter (Ancient Curious).

Having a core of members that live and breathe (sometimes bleed) for criminal RP, we seek to invite others into the vast amount of fun and shenanigans we toss ourselves into. Our principle is that RP-interactions takes us where we want to go. Meaning that other than simply surviving the foul world of today, there are no end-goal beyond what the characters place for the guild.

What we offer:

  • A down to earth take on criminal RP.
  • A concept where your character matters and communication is key.
  • A chance to flip the finger to the Officer Blue (Sschh, keep that finger down!)
  • Experienced roleplayers that gladly helps out those in need of it.
  • Casual RP occuring most of the day and events when it is deemed natural.
  • One hell of a bumpy ride IC, and not so bumpy OOC.

What we are looking for

As you might have noticed, we are quite picky when it comes to the characters wandering down the Bleak Street. The very concept speaks of characters in the lower scale of life’s feast. Meaning that it would make little sense for us to include Death Knights, Demon Hunters and concepts that are less likely to ever cross path with dirt such as ourselves. That does not mean however that we do not accept creative concepts! We are all ears.
While we do not wish to list demands of what we accept and don’t accept, we ask you to open a dialogue with us if you are unsure if your characters fits the gang.

Sounds interesting? Ready to earn a reasonably small amount of silver? Then hit us up either IC or OOC!

Siesiela - GM

Twistroot (Kithra)

Arthur Fowler (Gilneanfella)

Alfred Hayes (Shadewood)

Or hit up any of the online thugs! They are all pretty nice.

Will look forward to any interactions with your lots in Redridge if you lots wish to mess about there. The Shield of Redridge is all open for any OOC coperation for any IC hassle where we wish to work out the best interaction from both sides. I am currently away untill around february, but the Shield still operates in my leave.

Best of luck lads. Criminal RP is something that’s sorely needed in any role-playing community.

If you need any help planning events or brainstorming ideas for the guild, then my Discord is: Writer#7938. I’d be more than happy to help you with anything you need. I’ve a good working knowledge of how to plan campaigns, roll systems, “RPG-ing-out” characters, and how to set up events (or day to day methods) to help advertise your guild.

Thank you! We will indeed keep that in mind. Criminal RP is terribly controversial at times due it its occasional poor execution and short lasting life, but as you say, the community needs it. Just as it needs a vast variety of other concepts simply to create a realistic touch of life. Luckily for us all, there are alot of quality roleplayers out there these days. We like to consider ourselves amongst them.

Likewise, Narthur. Thank you for the thumbs up! I do look forward to the future bumps and bruises we will share. A top bunch!

Over the few couple of weeks we have seen a lovely amount of quality Crime RP occuring in Old Town once more. So far it has been joyfully organized and most of our colleagues are top notch.

We have however made it a principle that we want to provide a sense of down to earth criminal presence in other spots of Stormwind. The Bleak Street Blighters have set up shop in Mage Quarter (Ancient Curious) and intend to stay there when we are not out of the city.

So, if your character is in need of any wares or services that may prove itself diffult to acquire through legal means, the folks of Bleak Street are more often than not active in Ancient Curious.

We look forward to interact with you all!

Tess is probably a bit lofty and lavish for the Blighters, but I really love this gritty, and grounded take on criminal RP!

Best of luck to you, guys!

Thank you for the kind replies, both of you! We wish to be perceived as a healthy addition to the RP scene. I’m glad we’ve succeeded in that so far.

After having had an eventful afternoon in the city, the Blighters packed their quite small bags and rode to the land where it all began - the promise land of Westfall. In good company of the Gilded Oak League, they shared a few thoughts for the future and some banter for the present. Truly a pleasant encounter for the two gatherings. If anything, the future does not appear so bleak after all.
To end the night with a bang, the barkeep of Moonbrook, Kim had opened the bar for the thirsty crowd. Having catered to nothing but homeless and drifters, one would’ve thought the sight of the Westfall saviours would be pleasant. Sadly that was not the case. Moldy bread, long opened bottles of red and salty comments were gladly offered. In the shade of the scrawny female’s grumpy presence, the Blighters managed to get a lovely night after all. Surely, Moonbrook needs to be once again filled with their joyful personas sooner rather than later!

Not all is necessarily a success in the life of a street scoundrel seeking a life of honest work and coins to follow it. The Blighters took a big hit to their pride last night. A larger trade deal was set up and roughly interrupted by a rivaling crowd, one they even had an agreement with. Luckily, the Blighters managed to get their way out of the situation with their goods in hand. Losing such a large quantity of beverages would surely had taken a hit to their economical situation. As it stands, it was only a symbolic defeat.
The night took the gang further, towards different directions. Arthur, Siesiela and Ash continued to rally their allies and sought out the backstabbers at their own turf. While these Blighters easened up the situation however, their leader was seen dragged through Old Town, unconscious, wounded and dragged by multiple Ren’dorei. Alfred only managed to secure the cargo before the escapades of the night before caught up to him. Rumours have it that the Ren’dorei sought retaliation for the tense situation appearing in the young Lion’s city, placing the weight of it all on a simple farmer from Westfall.
What this means for the Blighters is still unknown. What is certain however, is that this will not be the last of the Bleak Street Blighters.

Seen you guys around, naturally, since you guys were keeping it low key ( as it should be, quite frankly, for criminals, unlike some ) my char ( Joseph Harkans, recruiter for the Nightfall Brigade ) passed by you on several occasions, blissfully unaware of being around criminals.

Hats off, gentlemen, for the quality RP.
