As we know, blizzard recently updated their ToS so now trading gold between different realms/factions is prohabited, probably because of RMT profit traders, and also disguising RMT transactions by it. But, on the other side, it will encourage some people previousely using gold swaps, to buy gold now, because they can’t effectively farm gold in 1 game version, but can in other.
Better solution. Just make gold swaps (between different game versions/realms/factions) official in the auction house section. Exchange rate is determined by supply/demand (same as WoW token system), all system is anonymous (to prevent gold selling abuse - when you swap some little amount of gold on 1 sever for much higher amount on other), and make fee 20-30% to prevent profit trading and market manipulations.
Why i think this will help reduce gold selling? Because it will reduce demand, many people who can farm gold well in 1 version, but can’t do it in other, previously purchasing gold on game version where they can’t farm gold effectively, will now use this system, and reduce amount of RMT transactions.
I think that is not a good idea. It would just entangle different game modes together more than they already are. People would start playing one version of the game just to play another. To me that doesn’t sound too great.
They also banned it because people were bidding on loot with Cata gold and then swapped it over to Anniversary to circumvent the GDKP ban. Your solution would only encourage that behavior.
Ye maybe at least make it just between classic versions, because also Cata and retail both have tokens, and it also can be difficult to do because it is other clients, so just make it swap between classic versions (fresh/sod/hc/era)
how can bots profit if they let gold swap between versions. Probably so many bots quit game lately because they cannot effectively sell the farmed amount and so they came up with that interesting update.
All you have to do buy golds from the same server you play, so bots can profit and they can buy more subscription to farm more gold to sell in the same server and this way blizzard stakeholders can profit more.
But if you are a casual player who enjoys and spend time on all of the versions and farm slowly now you cannot swap the gold when you have an important amount to swap or when you decide to move it other versions.
If you are botter, you can still sell the gold and do swaps same server’s same faction.
Honestly, the way Blizzard is handling this situation is pretty disappointing. It makes no sense to issue bans before a policy change is even officially implemented. What’s even worse is the inconsistency. Players like me who have done it only once’s or twice are getting suspended, while others who have done it thousands of times aren’t facing any consequences at all. It feels completely unfair and arbitrary.
People have been banned for trading for tainted gold for a long time, you should have seen the writing on the wall and not done it, you most likely didnt get banned for the act of trading the gold but because the gold you traded for was from a known gold seller.
Untill the new rules came out the act of trading between servers and game modes was not banned it was discouraged as it could lead to you getting scammed or get tangled in with a gold seller that is known. Some people apparently were lucky and didnt trade their gold with a seller and thus they were safe.
