About the state of the story

I get you guys don’t like people criticizing certain things but blizzard, your beloved questline is getting memed on twitter in posts with thousands of likes.

maybe it’s time to rethink about the quality of the narrative.

It’s not about disliking something.
It’s about how you voice that dislike. That is probably why it was removed.

Be more nuanced when voicing your opinions and there should be no problem.

but i didn’t say anything. the op was literally a bunch of laughing emojis.

people in the thread were harsher than me in their criticism

Doesn’t sound like a very constructive or useful post for others to see then, honestly.
I can see why a thread made to simply ridicule something, would be removed.
It’s mean spirited and doesn’t serve any purpose other than to ‘be mean’.

A better OP would have been explaining why you didn’t like the storyline and what Blizzard could/should have done to make it better.

Having said that: It could also be that comments in the thread itself took a turn for the worst. That’s often another cause for a thread to be deleted. In that case: Don’t blame Blizzard; blame the other forum users.

this is not a new problem. constructive criticism on the quality of the story has been ignored and discarded multiple times. the devs are hellbent in making wow something completely different from what it was

Honestly: No matter how much you don’t like that, that is the devs’ right.
They are making this game.

I know it sucks if it’s going to a place that you dislike, but… That’s life.

I’ve detached from caring about WoW storylines way back in WotLK.
I had to, because I no longer raided and Blizzard felt it necessary to gate the story behind a raid. It’s one of the reasons I quit the game in that expansion (and didn’t return until WoD).
Now I just take it as it comes. And the only time I’ve actively hated a storyline/theme was in Shadowlands with the whole Jailer nonsense and that ‘first ones’ lore.

Anyway, my point is: The devs are not obliged to listen to our feedback (unless they specifically tell us they want our feedback - like with the upcoming housing system).

The other issue is: What one player thinks is an awful story, another may enjoy.
They’re never going to please everyone, no matter what they do.

the general consensus is that the story sucks. that’s why we basically don’t have story discussions anymore. for a reason or another people have detached from the setting and the lore of this game.

the devs can write their fanfictions as much as they want but their focus should be making the customers happy.

No, the publishers and managers are.

Stop blaming the devs, they are incorporating stuff they don’t agree with in the game just to maintain their job.

when you say

Not very constructive at all and it is the writers not the devs that tell the story.

Which customers? The ones that hate faerin because of her looks or gender or lack of arm? The non toxic normal people?

Ah yes, the usual deflection.

No, the customers that keep saying the story is boring, childish and badly written

they weren’t forced by anyone. remember all the censoring back in shadowlands? that was their doing (and they even admitted it)

Tone doesn’t confer nuance, it confers tone. Nuance is the ability to have complex thought, not to structure something in a way you approve of. That’s just a means to defang the actual content of what’s being said.

It is bad. There is a good idea underneath it that, if taken seriously and presented with the ability to convey the actual sectarian brutality of what is happening, could make for a highly compelling story. If someone tried to step between Catholics and Protestants and put an end to the fighting, they would get stabbed. These people want blood, not peace. It is time Blizzard made a game that reflects how people and the world actually are, rather than how they hope it would be. When they chase idealism, it turns out shallow and painfully artificial, because they treat people as reasoned philosophical constructs rather than as meat monkeys killing strangers to defend who and what they are from an invading force that should be massacred purely on the grounds that they are a separatist faction who invaded.

Love and peace are not the answer. Blizzard needs to show that peace can only be preserved through power which is the ability to physically and mentally dominate, by projecting and exercising violence over one’s territory. That is exactly why Anduin makes such a pathetic king compared to his father, and why Shadowlands completely ruined Sylvanas. Sylvanas should never have apologised. She should have doubled down and clearly stated the actual philosophical and political reasoning behind why it was her right to massacre the night elves, who are nothing but a tribe of tree worshipping, moon obsessed savages. These factions should be at each other’s throats simply because species, in general, are genetically different and naturally want their people to expand, survive, and rule. There should be conflict even within factions, driven by differences in nature, politics, culture, religion, and survival. Instead, you get a story written with the tone and scope of a nursery rhyme, as if every character is a three year old. Fairy tales have more spine than Blizzard’s current writing.

Is it? According to who?

Show me the actual data on that please.
“A bunch of loud players online, does not a majority make.”

According to people with an IQ/EQ above 70, you cannot seriously defend the current story based on its quality, whether in terms of writing or technological execution. It is embarrassing, especially given how childish and naive the writing has become. This is just as cringeworthy as the Dragonflight Power Ranger moment.

What a mean spirited, insulting way to treat people who might like something else than you.

Demonizing people who don’t agree with you is a lazy way to try to win an argument.
All it does it show you don’t have any actual arguments.

So in other words if you disagree stay silent? I have my issues with the expac. Stories fine if a little meh but one thing that isn’t an issue is woke. If you want to complain about the story go ahead I’ll likely agree this expansion but cry cos a black woman exists is insane

I do not care. You have every right to like different things. However, your ability to enjoy objective trash is not a valid reason for something to be considered good or acceptable. I like plenty of terrible things, but that does not make them good. If anything, it is probably a flaw in my wiring as a person because I should hold higher standards for the things I enjoy. The difference is that I actually recognise when what I like is bad, and I will still champion for it to be better.
