I think this is the most annoying issue for me now, and there is multiple threads on the topic.
I was doing timewalking dungeon and the healer had full mana the entire run, he didn’t heal anyone, was only dpsing. So on a boss I died. After the boss was dead he just ran off without ressing.
I had to release and run from the beginning while they were continuing to the end of the dungeon.
After running for a minute I was vote kicked and got a 30 minute deserter debuff.
This thing getting really frustrating. I know how to sit and just wait for 30 minutes when I didn’t even do anything inherently wrong.
I am aware this topic has been beaten to death, but it seems to still require attention.
PS: I hope its not confusing that I post this on my healer, this happened on my level 22 alt warrior.

Lesson of the day, initiate the vote to kick them before they get you!

It is unacceptable when it happens but the question is why Blizzard think it is ok to abuse votekick? Thats why you shouldnt get deserter if you got kicked. That is completetly dumb!
To be fair to a certain point: healers are expected to dps these days. So…its not entirely their fault.
And as a healer myself: it annoys me so much that I have to dps instead of focus on the healing part.

I think healers should dps when there is nothing to heal. But letting people die on (I assume) on purpose and not ressing them to then vote kick them is a bit too much.

No, the primary role of healers is to keep the group alive. Once that’s under control, they can contribute some DPS if possible. The issue we’re facing now is DPS mains queuing as healers just to avoid waiting more than 10 seconds, then proceeding to do DPS because “it’s just a timewalking dungeon, what can go wrong.”
It’s incredibly frustrating and Blizzard needs to look into it soon.

Back in ye olde days players who didn’t want to finish tried to avoid the deserter buff by just griefing until they got vote kicked IIRC cause that way they could instantly queue again
So the reason is because bad apples spoiled the batch

And do what? Remove the deserter debuff on kicks? Every time this topic comes up the same answer is said, it was much worse when there wasn’t a debuff.
What else do you want to happen? Blizzard investigating it? In most cases it’s not clear abuse, but rather people not agreeing on if it’s justified or not. They can’t exactly ban them because they didn’t like you being behind and didn’t know the real reason and decided to kick you.

I wish the system would lock people into the roles they queued as. I would have kicked a non healing healer though.
It’s not an abuse of the vote kick system though. It’s simply a majority rules system.

I must say I am really starting to wonder if there really is all that much abuse of the votekick system going on and how much of it is down to the players removing problematic players from their group and said problematic players stirring up social media.
I run quite a bit of matchmade content and generally there is no troubles. I have noticed some players go AFK without letting the group know, generally being annoying by DMing group members constantly or mentioning inappropriate topics getting vote kicked mostly.

If you remembered any of the names, report them, other than that, sadly there is no way to avoid this type of situation at the moment.
Most people I know will say: “If you got kicked then it is YOU problem, and you ruined the party”, but it seems that in rare occurrences it can be just bad luck with the group, but still I would ask for more context: How much dps compared to other members you did, did you do anything which could sever the run and did you offend anyone in chat (I don’t think though that you would do that but just to make matters clear)
It’s not “abuse of the vote kick function” though.
I’ll grant you it’s annoying and unfair grounds to be kicked on, also sad that nobody tends to res any more in dungeons - back in the day they’d call you a noob and far less flattering things, but they’d still res you - but at the end of the day it worked as intended, and you got to do something else for half an hour

Sometimes people remove trolls and AFKs, sometimes it’s just drama.
I remember one time where the tank complained about one DPS for ninja pulling. The tank then proceeded to throw insults at the DPS and what not. We kicked the tank when it was obvious he’s just going to keep throwing insults.
Is ninja pulling fun? No, and as a tank I usually don’t pick up threat if someone is blatantly ninja pulling. But you can’t just throw around insults because you think you’re in the right either.
To be honest I am glad I am sticking now to non queuable content more like m+. Even though M+ community has it’s own problems which might be even much bigger than anything discussed here but at least you don’t get bamboozled by the system unable to do any dungeons because group decided you are not good fit regardless of reason. Even if you got bricked the key or got leavers situations you can just move on or push your own key
I read all replies so far and it seems the system either should respect the right for people to remove afkers, insulting people and whatever for the right reason. Or the system should respect the right for people to queue for dungeons without even knowing if they complete the dungeon even though they arent doing anything wrong.
So what should take presedence? I think that is the question.
Btw, I just did a dungeon as a tank, and as we enter the healer said “I am going balance” so it was a abvious dpser who queued as healer.
People were struggling to keep themselves alive and some died early because of no heals. I vote kicked the “healer” stating he was a obvious dps. The vote failed. And 15 seconds later I was vote kicked from the group. And yes, I have been tanking on and off for since 2005 so I am quite confident in my ability to tank a dungeon properly, so its not that.
I had a tank who just initiated vote kicks on everybody for funsies. I clicked no for all of them.
Then I got kicked since it was clearly my turn on the initiate kick roulette.

Ain’t there like a 15 minute wait inbetween successful vote kicks?
yes, none of the others were successful until they kicked me.
I guess that’s what happened with the prior person to me since I joined half way throgh.
Hey, i got kicked from random Island Expeditions once.
Party leader is free to kick anyone without voting and i was unlucky to have ego-maniac there. This player yelling about killing bosses and was not happy when they saw me digging big chunk of azerite.
I don’t mind, this player is clearly noob with ego, since there is no additional reward for killing only bosses. If there is - this player do not bother to explain what i did wrong even when i whispered them.
So, i agree that there is a lot of EGO-players, who is clearly abusing votekick function.
I don’t think that it is right to kick people for being bad at the game is right thing to do in the random dungeons.
It is simply why random dungeons is exists, to help new players learn.
About potential griefering in random dungeons - i can only come up with AFK so far. I think you can do a bit griefering in The Necrotic Wake dungeon, Surgeon Stitchflesh boss, but rather than that - i can’t come up with any other mechanic-griefering.
You havent played Mythic+ then? Non-dps as a healer is usally enough to be kicked, or at least yelled at.
Exceptions are mistweaver and disc priest ofc. They are expected to dps to heal.
Even the whole talent-tree is based on healers doing dps. I assume for overworld content, but we all know how toxic the LFG is these days.
