Abusing the report feature

I think you simply need to accept that it comes with the territory.
Boosting is a delicate subject and the most popular groups being:

  1. People who support it.
  2. People who are indifferent and/or don’t care(I belong to this group).
  3. People who hate it.

Some people who agree with the “3rd group” can even be outright hostile. Spamming reports, whispering the advertisers and wishing team a slow painful death and so forth.

If you advertise your boosting service or what ever. Just be prepared and accept that there people like these out there “who are on a quest to rid the world of boosters”…

Oh… ArgentDawn… I party-sync in there once , just to see what RP guys doing.

Thats creepy.

You guys just sit AFK for hours in a circle? Is thats all RP all about?

I do accept that, that happens with anything on our world and beyond. There are PvEers who hate PvPers with passion, and vice versa. However, within WoW, it is Blizzard’s duty to make sure people aren’t falsely soft-banned from the game.

Well the thing is.
Its a bit of a gray area and Blizzard’s every move is being watched.

If they ban boosters or take any action towards them(regardless if its a mute, ban, what ever). Then boosting supporters would complain that Blizz is meddling in the “free trade” since boosting is NOT against ToS.

If they give you a boosting channel or otherwise protect you. That will only give more ammo and excuse to the anti-boosters and their ideology that WoW is pay to win and Blizz is outright supporting it.

So Blizz must stay as neutral as possible…meaning. No involvement…

Yeah, but, you gotta remember, being able to falsely soft-ban someone happens outside being falsely reported for boosting.

Not against rules, but people are tired of it - it is against democratic will of the local community.

I just want to say that thanks to your lot, I have disabled my trade chat to make the game even close to playable in the hub areas. I have never reported any of you in the chat, but I regularly report the ones in the group finder. I have severe dislike for your entire community. You literally ruin a huge part of the game for me - trading. All the trading i do I have to do through the auction house. So you get no pity, mate.

Exactly! Now normal/casual item sellers/buyers are forced to use the “General” chat for WTB/WTS cuz “Trade” is spammed with looooong boost advs every 1-2 secs.

Well, given that your “advertisements” aren’t pointless, they aren’t spam, just… sam; stupid annoying messages. So I guess spam reports aren’t entirely accurate. But it’s the closest thing people have, so it makes sense they use it. I wouldn’t call that “abuse”; nor does Blizzard apparently.

Oh. Only every 2 and half minutes? Yeah that doesn’t seem annoying at all, it’s hard to fathom how anyone could take exception to that :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

How would you feel if you were muted from out of the blue, with no solid reason?

It’s not the community who is going to decide who gets soft-banned or not. It’s an extremely easily abusable system. It’s Blizzard’s job to regulate that.

I didn’t call my soft banning abuse, I said that this system is very much abuseable.

I’m playing on Argent Dawn. Trade chat is flooded with everything. 150 seconds waiting time minimum is a lot there.

So if I find someone selling the Xiwyllag ATV on the trade chat, and has a decent pause between each advert, and it annoys me, does that give me solid grounds on which I can get him soft-banned? Answer me that.

If you don’t want it to seem like you’re saying that spam reporting you is abusing the function, then maybe you should edit the thread title?

Does the guy selling the Xiwyllag ATV paste a paragraph about it frequently? Is it unreasonable for him to use the trade channel for trade? If you think so, I suppose you can try flagging him. But

short of you logging multiple characters, you can’t. And it’s not 1 person doing it to you either, it’s a collective. If the collective takes exception to the guy selling the ATV, he’ll be kicked to the ground just as fast as you do.

As I said, this isn’t just an abusable weapon against boosters (or me in this case), this can be abused against anyone.

Yep, I’m aware, but there were no rules broken, and no gameplay experiences ruined. Just because people dislike boosters doesn’t mean they should also be able to unfairly silence their accounts, similarly if people don’t like the guy selling the ATV - assuming he didn’t break any rules.

Ah that explains it. Trade chat on RP server is mainly meant for socializing, not spamming boosts. If you want to do that crap then go to a normal server.

They hate us cuz they jealous lmao

Im glad blizzard support resolves unjustified reports and silences fast.

wish they’d start punishing people who falsely report others.

I’m going to start reporting every boost spammer I see from now on thanks to your post.

Go right click anything in group finder, hover over report, and you’ll find there’s a specific option for advertisement

Now if you were saying they should remove the profanity rule, I would sympathize, my NA account is probably on a list of troublemakers

Also, I don’t think these systems should be automated in this way

They’re effectively giving players access to the moderation tools, and if players were trustworthy enough to use them, they wouldn’t be necessary in the first place

A few things. First of all, blizzard needs to finally introduce a a “services” channel. And leave the trade chat alone for actual trading. (As in buying, selling and trading of ITEMS).

Also, I don’t really blame the boosters. With the way the economy has gone down the drain boosting is the only reliable method of earning gold if you are ever aiming for something like a brutosaur mount.

Also, nobody is placing any blame on the people buying the boosts. (The same people who buy tokens and are the reason this system is still in the game)

I must admit that I’ve started reporting all the boost posts in trade chat that I see as spam. I’ve got the BadBoy addon set up so I think I’m not even seeing the majority of the posts anyway, but over the last couple of weeks I’ve been noticing boosters putting accented letters into their community names or just structuring their messages really awkwardly.

The only reason for doing this would be to try get around the blacklist in order to advertise to the people who are not interested and who actively trying to block you. This is literally just trolling and I feel like it warrants a report whenever I see it.
