whenever a company want to add in gay people or other things dosnt mean its just for the stunt or whatever people call it…
That’s something they moved away from years ago and openly stated so during a stream. I think it was during Legion.
nice try but you should actually go past the title next time
Yes I did. Hench the latter part of my post about how your whines have been discussed a thousand times.
you might also reconsider the “white straight people” part, makes you come of as a tourist walking around in a zoo and being pleasantly surprised they added a new attraction. Gay couples are not there to amuse you.
Has to start somewhere.
Only started when it was financially safe to do so.
I don’t think the financial benefits, if any, are really applicable to the WoW player base or gaming in general.
But seeing as nothing is lost - or taken away - by broadening the character pool I don’t see it as an issue. It’s a net positive.
The ‘pink dollar/pound’ has been a thing for a very long time, commercially.
Ah yes because gay people can’t be put in a game, can’t exist as normal people, nope, must be a publicity stunt !
Yeah, those are my feelings on it. As one of the “targets” of these new customization options, I found it possible to simultaneously enjoy the new inclusivity whilst acknowledging the cynical capitalistic aspect.
It’s 2021, and the average player isn’t a white, straight teen anymore - so it’s natural that most modern games feature a more diverse cast. Blizzard isn’t even new to this; Overwatch had one of the most diverse cast of characters in recent gaming releases, and Blizzard has historically always been pretty good with diversity outside of WoW (Diablo 1’s Sorcerer, Diablo 2’s Paladin).
It’s good to be aware of the fact that it is likely done with marketability in mind; but, that doesn’t mean there aren’t positives. I’ve been happier playing the game since for sure, and it is not the most egregiously capitalistic thing Blizzard have done by far. Like Ilyrian said: net positive.
I would have respected their decision if it came 10 years ago. Making Thrall gay 10 years, would have been a bold statement. Making two peons 3/4 of the playerbase won’t interact with isn’t courage , I’m sorry. It’s free publicity for an expansion on garbage websites like Kotaku.
Have you played through the Ardenweald story ? By any chance ?
Why does it need to make a statement, why can’t gay characters just exist ?
An awful lot of these threads are started by people who are not in fact LGBT and/or a Minority…frankly, it’s a bit strange to post in a manner where being beaten up, is apparently a nostalgic memory, in comparison to the ‘toxicity’ of being ‘pandered to’ commercially… sounds legit… oh, wait…
Mate, my existence isn’t a bold, courageous political statement. I much prefer the gay characters being normal people than characters defined by their sexuality. Have you asked any queer people, any PoC, about their thoughts on this? Most of my friends agree that it’s a positive.
I’ve suffered through the questline, yes. The chapter in question is the reason behind my rant. An ex-shadow warrior nobody ever heard about before said quest isn’t a major player in my book
They are both major characters throughout the campaign, and are instrumental to learning about The Night Warrior. Your opinion doesn’t change the facts. Also, are you saying Matheas Shaw isn’t a major character?
That’s the thing isn’t it, Blizzard did it because they felt it was safe to pander to us. They wouldn’t have dared 10 years ago. It’s their hypocrisy coupled with all of the points I made in my initial post that made my blood boil.
I’m not saying Thrall being LGBTQ HAS to be a defining character trait, I’m just thinking it would have had much more impact a long time ago when we actually needed representation.
Sorry, I’d assumed you were straight, that’s my fault. I agree with you that rainbow capitalism is a bad thing, I really hate the fact that Pride has become so commercialized, but in this specific instance, do you really dislike the inclusivity that much? It’s made me and a lot of my queer friends very happy.
This is fun though, shadowlands story was written long ago, were all these issues too ?
Not a single one of your points has anything to do with writing gay characters for a game, again, why can they not just exist, why do you have to see gay people as a statement ?
