I’m a little relieved the Avaloren screenshots appear to be fakes. Well, the ones I came across at least.
Real talk though there is an area on the Blizzcon floor map called “Corridor of Time” so it’s probably just set decoration for like an in-person game or photo op like they do at FF14 Fan fests and stuff.
I wouldn’t be surprised if these Avaloren leaks were from Blizzard, who were testing the waters to see how people would respond
leak season isn’t fun when none of the leaks sound remotely appealing tbqh
That’s implies a level of planning that I’m just not sure Blizzard is capable of.
Haphazardly loosing spoilers out into the wild then frantically backtracking on plans if they’re received poorly does sound like our Blizzard, though
And even if it is, surely it has backfired massively because the majority perception thus far of “Avaloren” being the 20th anniversary expansion is just a big, fat “Yeah, no thanks, this looks extremely boring”.
This triggered an “Oh God, they’re pulling a WoD 2.0 with us going to the War of the Ancient aren’t they?” which is low in probability but with the added factor of Wow 20 years, milking that period of time makes it jump higher in chances… Still low of course.
More NElves, never enough NElves.

Oh no.
To be fair, jumping 10-ish millenia in the past would help us see more than nelves. Both Pandaren and Zandalari empires were at their peak at that period, and it would be awesome to see what both races have lost with the Sundering.
On second though, I doubt people aside from RPers even remember it’s been any different back then, Blizz included.
war of the ancients expansion just so i can have my beloved malfurion and illidan back
I don’t want to deal with his angst.
wota expansion where we have five 15 minute long dialogue ‘listen to illidan’ quests where he goes on incel rants but the devs manage to imprint the idea that he’s like, totally right and stuff, again and again
Afrasiabi returned as creative head
they literally did that in shadowlands
if they released a fake leak with shadowlands to gauge reactions before committing to it we wouldn’t have gotten shadowlands
“Oh crap, they don’t like it?”
“So?”
“…so maybe we should change it?”
“No.”
Probably be how that conversation went if it did happen (it probably didn’t happen)
If I wanted to leak an expansion to gauge reactions for the sake of course correcting, I wouldn’t do it even 3 months before the big announcement.
