I think you’ve put this pretty well. I wouldn’t want WoW to try to emulate what works for FF14, because it just… wouldn’t. Player housing would be great, but overall Blizzard needs to work with what WoW does well. The two games provide different experiences.
Me Distantpeak
More Damn Emotes!
Or worse… finding RP basically becomes like dating apps where you go through someone’s carrd and have to set up RP like a date.
This. How I would love to hav even a fraction of the emotes I have in Lord of the Rings Online.
There’s so many NPCs have, like cleaning the floor, leaning and so on.
And looking at WoWhead, they’re listed as emotes. So hand em over!
Scheduling RP is pretty handy though. I like knowing what days I’ve got roleplay planned and what days I can just watch my Distantpeak hidden house camera stream.
It’s a good stream. My insanity knows no bounds.
It’s definitely handy and I do it myself if it’s with people I’ve met already! If it’s to meet new people, I find more enjoyment in going to a crowded hub and see what I encounter.
Distantpeak doing tiktok dances in front of the mirror thinking no one can see is a personal highlight
Trying to help Blizz with the dance studio!
Looser transmog rules would be nice, considering cosmetics already blur the lines.
There’s so many that are like… why are these not all class options?
Like the Bearmantle headdress. It’s a Leather/Druid item, and yet looks great on the likes of Orcs, some Tauren too, etc. No good if you’re a Warrior, though.
Don’t even get me started on the Clan sets from WoD… Ah yes, the Frostwolves, well known for their Hunters and Shamans and non-Leather Wearing Classes, are you kidding me?
“You can equip it! But transmogging is a No-No!”
Literally why?!
Agree, and I think there’s several reasons why RP on FF14 tends to be focused on house venues rather than open world:
-
The capitals tend to be active all around with non-roleplayers, and since there’s no official RP servers, many shy away from roleplaying in the busy player hubs.
-
Many cities (e.g. Uldah) are split into different sub-zones/maps, breaking that ”open world” feel in them. Plus player instancing is a thing
-
The game has no chat bubbles, and talking about AddOns enabling such (or Listener type extensions) isn’t approved of in many places since they go against TOS. Together with auto-scrolling chat, a lot of people would anyway shy away from busy hubs finding the chat hard to keep up with. I’ve hosted several crowded events on FF14, and there’s always been complaints about the chat system.
-
There’s just never been similar history of open world focused roleplay as on Argent Dawn as far as I know, on AD many of us have good memories about open world events, hubs and campaigns. Even if there was player housing, I think a lot of us would like to keep finding spontaneous RP in the open world as well.
People use chat bubbles in WoW? I turn mine off. They’re clutter!
I’ll be honest, I have been againt opening all armor types for all classes…
But since Blizzard stated they are working on -all- classes for all races, I don’t see a reason to not allow all armor types for all classes/races either.
Yes, I already loathe the idea of seeing the Watcher armor on non-Night Elves(or even Horde ). Alas, its going to happen anyways. If I have to suffer from it, everyone else has to, aswell; Allthough I know it would be a overall net win for RP(I already know what cloth shoulder I would build my Paladin’s set around )
They’re a darn blessing!
Now I see who says what dumb thing!
Fair point, but alot of people also don’t have those memories and rather RP with their little circle of friends/associates.
Introducing player/guild housing will, overall(and in time) fracture the RP-community even further, I think!
Also all-in-all; I just hope they’ll re-allow the Fire Mage/Felo’melorn Verdant Sphere’s again for Mages…
The Soulstones where re-added! So I hope Mages get a glyph allowing us our Verdant Spheres back!
Probably, but while it would fracture the RP community even more, it could also lift some friction in certain ways. Like people claiming open world buildings for their business or guild headquarters, and it’d offer people who get harassed in-game safe areas to roleplay in. Plus people who prefer to roleplay in closed circles likely keep on doing just that, player housing or not.
This is either mega cursed or your power level has grown too high to be allowed to continue…
Like people claiming open world buildings for their business
Ngl, I think it would suck running a business nobody ever randomly walks into… Like what are you running a business for then?
(aside from the drama going alongside claiming open world buildings, ofcourse )
Also, I can’t speak for anyone else, but all the ‘spontaneous’ RP already does happen at kind of pre-arranged or scheduled places, at least the stuff I’m happy to go to. Crossroads or the like (I haven’t RP’d Alliance side for a while) are already kind of pre-agreed, primarily because trying to RP off the cuff in Org/SW just leads to wondering how some people function in life…
It’s all well and good saying “Be the change you want to see!” but, since they patched Corrupted Blood all that time ago, there’s no way I can cleanse Goldshire, and I don’t feel like headbutting the Capital Brick Wall any more than I can tolerate, so.
Many people who run shop have designated days/hours/market events they do it on anyway. Could always advertise the shop on forums, discords, Argent Archives etc. I ran a RP shop occasionally in my player house on FF14 and there always were people dropping in and out over the course of the evening. Plus you could customize the place to match what your character is selling and the vibe of the shop!
Also, stuff like Guild housing is cool. I only ever experienced it in SWTOR which, given how awful they handled it with locking so much stuff behind their Real Money packs, was still pretty awesome; a nearly fully kitted Sith warship, complete with training rooms, laboratories, armouries etc?
10/10, would Dark Side again
