omg literally me
Silvermoon rebuilt, need nothing else.
I think these are the main problems, really. After two disastrous expansions in a row, plus the lawsuit scandal and all the other dirt on Blizzard that surfaced in the past two years, and overall the perception that they’re pushing quick cash grab products with no regard for creative integrity, I’d assume many people are reluctant to give Blizzard any more money.
Dragonflight has an engaging theme — I definitely would have resubbed for it, like I resubbed for Legion after quitting WoW in late MoP. The problem is Blizzard’s ruined reputation. Twice bitten, thrice shy.
I myself resolved not to give Blizzard any more money after the grand exodus of 2021 (in which I took part, discovering FFXIV for the first time). I’ve since softened my stance to “no more money to Blizzard, except for WoW subscription and the cheapest possible editions of WoW expansions”, because I still have interest in flexing my creative muscles with RP, and the RP community made somewhat of a recovery in Dragonflight after the Shadowlands lull.
I don’t see a world revamp happening yet, unfortunate as it may be. Not one that brings sweeping changes to the whole (old) world, at least, as recently several events have been updated in ways that fit the current version of the zones. Maybe they’re simply dynamic enough that they can be adapted to a whole zone change, but I have my doubts. The Khaz Algar thing doesn’t strike me as a full expansion thing either. Seems more like a potential 10.3 or at most a zone in whatever comes next.
As long as they let Metzen do his thing (which, if rumours are true, they are, much to the dismay of some other people in their team), then I think it should be something neat.
Classic+ sounds like a pipe dream that won’t please most people
I really, honestly do not buy into this being the ‘death knell’ so many people seem to think it will be.
It has literally never been true, at least in any of the MMORPGs I’ve played in (CoH and SWTOR notably). It’s a useful tool, and the only filter it tends to apply is those who are currently clogging up Goldshire…
Swtor had issues generally due to the nature of its sharding.
And people tend to use the open world less if they have a private alternative, you might say its fine but I firmly disagree.
I’d rather just have more open buildings in the open world.
whilst Khaz Algar is their “red-herring” they’re throwing out.
I think Khaz Algar will be a thing but it’s going to be underground like Zaralek Caverns. They have the technology…
But I do hope they’ll do the revamp + like three zones.
It has literally never been true
I don’t believe player housing would “kill” the community but change it to a format I’m not a fan of, like with FFXIV.
I don’t think it’d be healthy for the already dwindling RP community to be further fragmented.
ngl if people want to RP in private then they already will. Housing would just make the scenery more personal than instances already ingame.
If its more personal then it’s more likely people will want to be in it.
Think it’s better to make more space in the open world still.
Surely that’s dead with Aug Evoker existing? The concept of a class that makes others DPS harder is already used.
Blizzard laughs as they casually take features from other classes and bake them into a new one.
I want to restrict open world areas so that more people use instances
To cause people to go to your stomp house to get stepped on? Feh!
I’d like to see and hope for world revamp with rebuilding, old and new local problems culminating in raids that use the zone as their back drop.
I would make every single Quest that has ‘Kill X Boss Mob’ instanced.
You have no idea how going from City of Heroes, where over 90% of mission were instanced (AND you could take x8 player teams on. With scaling difficulty and Options, akr you!) to WoW where you get to sit and stare at the Boss’s corpse for minutes at a time, unable to progress until they respawn.
Ugh.
I don’t care about the cons. Give me player housing.
I don’t believe player housing would “kill” the community but change it to a format I’m not a fan of, like with FFXIV.
I feel that.
Most walk-in RP in the Chaos community happens in player-run venues, and attempts to introduce an open world hub largely failed. It seems to me that an open world hub is not something that can be forced on players, it has to arise by itself — and FFXIV doesn’t really feature obvious places for RPers to gravitate to like Stormwind and Orgrimmar.
(There are the three vanilla capitals, but no real reason for anyone to expect other RPers to be in any of them. And so RPers stick to events that are announced to take place in player houses, and the cycle continues.)
With the way WoW has been designed compared to FF14, I don’t think there’s ever going to be the risk of somewhere like Stormwind becoming a ghost town. Lesser hubs, though? They’d likely suffer, yeah.
I don’t necessarily think either is the superior option, the two MMOs just have different cultures for their RP.
Wishlist?
-
Like so many others, hoping to see Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms revamp
-
All dungeons & raids given explorer mode up to 40 players, there’s many dungeons I’d love to host certain events in, but can’t due to the current player cap
-
Player housing; but only if it was pretty extensive in terms of interior design options, and an evergreen feature that the devs keep adding to. I’ve spent hundreds of hours on housing on FF14, way more than on any other area of the game outside MSQ, something similar would definitely up my WoW playtime as well. Though I doubt WoW would offer similar freedom to float items up or sink them through the floor through various methods… The diversity of designs people do thanks to this, and tons of furnishing items, is wildly creative.

New character emotes, please it’s due time
There was a brief window of time in ESO where we had a sweetspot with public hub RP and private housing to compliment it with player-run establishments.
3 months after the Homestead update, they introduced One Tamriel which combined with the factions and sharded up the gameworld, effectively killing public RP over night and making instanced RP the only alternative.
Player initiatives have cropped up since then to bring life to specific places, due to ESO’s ability to force yourself into another player’s shard manually, but organic walk up RP died immediately with One Tamriel.

Especially with how many have been added/are going to be added to NPCs, thiiiiiiis.
New character emotes, please it’s due time
My life for more emotes.
