[addon question] npc_scan?

morning,

anyone got a working npc_scan link for moi for classic?
i only ever found 1 and that seems to have an empty table inside.
i can stand right in front of a rare spawn looking at me and it wont alert me…ever.

for those not knowing npc_scan, its an addon that alerts you when a rare/named mob enters your render distance.
feel free to offer an alternative if you have one.

i use silverdragon classic
it works only on what can be seen on the minimap , gives an alert and showing witch rare is arround.
I hope you dont scare fast because if that alert goos , i jump up like a woman for a spider

tried it but only seems to work…of sorts?
i just had a rare spawn walk past me, so close it was just outside aggro range…and…nothing.
i followed it around, still no sound,message or anything else.

only once my cursor goes over and/or i click it, i get the sounds,flashy screen and target window.
so basically it seems to only work once i see it/click it myself and then i dont need it any more anyway…

am i missing a setting somewhere ?

I think the key is what Grimbald said about the minimap. Sounds like it’s probably more useful for hunters.

yea,its for my hunter and thats where i tried it with.
i used “track beasts” and i saw the rare on the minimap (with name).

I guess those addons work with unitframes. So you need to enable enemy unitframe and be in range (20 meters).

i found a lot of “unitframes” on twitch under mods.
which one in specific?
sorry, im not good with mods im not familiar with.

Just use unitscan, it works fine

it only works when i add the rare via /command to unitscan’s database.
i dl’ed it from twitch and typed /unitscan to see, and it returned blank.
i did seek out a rare when i knew he was there,and nothing.
i left the area, added the rare via command to unitscan and went back…and it alerted me to its presence.
so its useful if you are after a certain rare, but id like to be informed of ‘any’ rares presence.
and that id only achieve if i add all classic rares by hand…

silverdragon works beautifully, if it werent for that tiny issue i described.

i am srr to answer youre question so late? i try to eplain how it works but my englisch is not that good.

  1. you can use mouseover aslong as the rare is showing on ihe minimap
    ex you know where it can show , look on minimap see packs and he is arround there. you go then a litle closer scanning with youre mouse , you got him from afar now
    2 is the npc scan, for this you need to enable npc name plates
    then go too the options from the addon you see there scanning, best option there is set it on 10 meaning 10 scans a sec.
    theres also an options called mobs , go there hit classic sub and set youre region where you at ex darkshore ,you now get to see the whole rare list off that region and scanning for them.
    the only problem with this option its pretty close before it hits, the nameplate must appear , not the name itself , so i think its a range at 10 maybe 15.
    btw if you log out and back in you need to setup the region again

imo , if you are really hunting for rares the first option is the best because you know where he can show and scanning with the mouse is easier/safer
the second i find handy when i am just doing stuff and then poof there is one
