Addons in Midnight ⚠

The Midnight Nameplates support that visually as option. So I see no reason why that would be a problem?

Yes, that seems to be their goal.

Just recently I found this add-on, if I had an interrupt available (stun, knock-backs, etc) all mobs in combat with me or the group I’m in, if any of the mobs were casting and the cast can be interrupted, their nameplate would remain visible, the rest mobs’ nameplate would turn invisible.

I don’t like having a mouse over macro and having to click on nameplates to interrupt.

With this add-on, I could just tab target to any of the 2-3 mobs that are casting.

So finding out that in Midnight this add-on is probably gone, is disappointing.

We are not talking about Midnight though. By your own logic addons are cheats because they give “unfair” advantages via information, even though everyone can use them for free. I gave the example of the game hiding information if an option is not toggled on. So if a player chooses to not turn said option on, is it considered cheating that everyone else has turned it on or is the player self imposing a handicap on themselves for whatever reason? And please do not answer with “its in the game”.

Tell me you are inflated without telling me you are inflated.

You are THE prime example why addons need to go. The top pvp players are all happy that addons get banned.

You can’t just look at a single aspect of a game. LoL has a much cleaner visual experience because there’s only 4 buttons, while in WoW (you claim) you need addons to see if someone popped all their CDs and wants to burst you down.

Those CDs have visual telegraphing, and ultimately it would be more immersive and fun to look at other characters than UI elements.

And it will be the dawn of the phrase ‘no, we can’t do that anymore’ as a huge amount of customisation and options will be removed from the game.

Why would you say they have no choice but to fix things? They always have a choice. The game freezes up like crazy periodically and has done for quite a while for many people. A potentially gamebreaking issue for people running keys. They haven’t fixed that. But for some reason you expect them to add every customisation option we currently have to the base game UI? That is never going to happen.

What do you mean not letting it fester? We’ve had addons for nearly 20 years by this point, and things have mostly been fine. When there’s been an addon Blizzard thought went too far they just disabled that particular functionality. Not to mention that they took a lot of ideas from addons in the first place and implemented them into the game. Hard to do that in future if people can’t really get creative with them anymore.

I don’t share your opinion that this is some principled stance. I just don’t buy it. This feels like they’re trying to standardise the game before they make a console version or something.

I just returned, is that when my screen goes black mid-run and elements load individually a few seconds later, one textbox at a time? I thought that’s my RAM…

Over the last decade or so, some addons in high end raiding (and possibly pvp) started to shape the development process and became mandatory. They can’t ban them without also breaking a lot of other addons because they use very basic functionality, so they essentially decided to ban them all and put the “good” ones back by incorporating them into the default UI.

Yes, it’s entirely possible they’ll do a poor job at customization.
Yes, it’s possible they’ll leave out key features by accident, even if they didn’t want them specifically banned in the first place.
It’s also possible they’ll leave a door open for the very tools to return they wanted to ban.
I still think it could work out fine if they don’t mess it up.

I haven’t been reading any news but I can’t imagine that happening. Some specs could be played with a controller in some patches but to port the entire game?..

There is no news about it, its just speculation due to the Microsoft thing, introducing OBR and now removing addons. I am not convinced that the console port is happening, but you do have to admit that these changes do make the game fit more into a console release.

Cooldown manager still has a minimum padding setting of 2 instead of 0, the feature was implemented how many months ago? The UI designers lost touch and you will have damage meters, nameplates and raidframes looking like a 2010 “my first addon” project in Midnight, because Billy can’t install DBM on his Playstation 4.

Seen as cheating in many games, and seen as ruining the mind game.
Depends on the game.
If this is enabled by default, it’s not cheating as it is designed that way.
If it’s pulled from an obscure combat log, it is cheating.

It’s an uprighting of the game. Very much needed. And very much looking forward to it.

It’s a much lower skill ceiling. And it sets a precedent that everyone has to keep these tools to be competitive.
