AI Art as character reference (And now some very unrelated conversation)

Get a crotchet done for that.

Personally for campaigns and whatnot I’d just pull up existing creature reference imagery with its artist clearly credited but that’s just me
But 99% of the time i just describe things in detail. We’re roleplayers, we’re good at that kinda thing aren’t we

Ayooo that is genuinely RAD. Very cool!

I think we know now where we agree and disagree. I just want to add that I don’t see AI as a necessity to make good roleplay, it is just one tool in a toolbox. A written description is obviously the primary tool you always need, but I like some cherries on my cake. Which looks like a forbidden fruit in roleplay on AD, which is a takeaway from this thread.

I’ll post the artist when I recall who it was or can ask my partner who was the one who got it for me.

I was gonna ask if it was Mito’s wife, she did crochet right? Or am I thinking of another poster.

You’re mixing up taurenposters again. That’s Distantpeak, not Akamito. Common mistake.

No as in, who makes the crochet. I know who Distantpeak is!

I was making a funny

I am stupid, sorry!

This will affect the Tauren population, I think.

They’re so cute, thank you for the link!

There are actually some cool benefits in teaching yourself to draw.
Number 1: You get to brag about it. Or humblebrag, or pretend to be humble, whatever you want.
Number 2: It´s a nice skill to have, allowing you to achieve that ephemeral thing we all strive for, doing something productive in your free time (and then getting to brag about it, really it´s mostly about the bragging).
Number 3: Tied to the second one, people in general feel good when accomplishing something and finishing a drawing feels like an accomplishment. Afternoon spent drawing tends to end up with me feeling good about myself, while afternoon spent gaming makes me feel like I´m becoming one with the chair.
Number 4: There are probably some studies out there proving that drawing helps you with muscles and stuff in your hands, motor skills and who knows what other stuff.

Also, it´s surprising how little time and resources one needs to start drawing (really only a pencil and a notepad and few minutes a day). I´ve often found that once you start getting better (which often happens simply because you followed a guide), you also get that endorphin rush for seeing your drawings improve.

It won’t. There’s still only five of us.

Well damn, clearly I missed a hell of a thread. Read through it some, but ill post some of my own thoughts.

Personally I cannot draw for the life of me, and my creativity lies more in the written word than in the pencil. The only artpiece I have of Des is something I got given to me by someone a few years ago. For the rest I tend to rely on my written descriptions of characters to give people an idea.

I personally don’t deal with AI art, though recently some friends of mine did make me aware of the Bing AI generator. I daresay I made some funnies with it aswell as some absolute horrors.

Also, as far as I am aware, the EU is well on it’s way to create proper legislation to deal with AI, but that takes time, and since AI is relatively new, that’s probably the reason why there’s nothing on it yet.

I also seem to have read that apparently AI art generators are starting to shoot itself in the foot by scraping off other AI generated art. Inbreeding with itself, if you will…

Simply not using art for RP at all because AI art sucks, and I got screwed over by “artists” one too many times to invest my hard earned money in a person I don’t know.
The only way for me to ever use Art at all in RP is by having made it myself, which is not going to happen.

I’m sorry that you’ve been screwed over, really :frowning: But for some reason my mind immediately went to the infamous 600$ WoW commission from a few years ago.

For those who don’t know the story, a reddit user commissioned a fiverr artist for a group artwork of their WoW friends. The price was 600$, their portfolio looked good and it was meant to take 20 days.

3 months later of near radio silence, the above image came instead.
