AI Art as character reference (And now some very unrelated conversation)

I just noticed on zoom-in, you can literally see the crop-out lines and white background on the little cat in the middle.

I’m sorry. Genuinely so.

There are some recommendations for proven artists in the “Arts, creativity” thread, if you’re interested.

This is what being ahead of the curve looks like.

I feel bad for laughing.

It reads like an Ed, Edd n’ Eddy episode.

Here is the OG thread.

The guy apparently also asked for a tip after delivering the image.

Edit: Apparently someone else also looked and found the artist’s page and the portfolio was images stolen from pinterest.

Justifiably, it´s a work of pure art, beauty and vision.

That has to sting even more as it was someone you were friends with, sorry to hear :frowning:

The bare-chested human has actual human hands cropped in from a photo if you zoom in.

It truly is one of the greatest images of all time.

Since it’s sort of on topic, I’d like to share a conversation that an artist friend-of-a-friend has had with a “commissioner”

I take no AI art refs seriously and I just feel dissapointed when I have to look at it.

It is not legitimate art and never will be.

I don’t want to read 200 posts about a discussion I’ve been in a million times before, so I’m sorry if I’m saying something off topic or something someone’s already said.

A good alternative for reference “art”, for those with the interest (and PC space), is to download the Sims 4. It’s free to play these days and you can make pretty cool characters and snapshots with mods. Only downside is that there’s not really a good way to do beast races or rougher looking orcs and trolls. It’s not quite art, but it’s nicer (and more customizeable) than stuff like artbreeder.

Here are some of my own pics, just as an example! https://imgur.com/a/IZsKRpL
(You can make far better stuff than that, I’m just lazy :flushed:)

Baldur’s Gate 3 also has an exceptional character creation, especially when you introduce mods into the mix! I managed to make a few of my own characters with surprising accuracy, even though I’m a chronic art commissioner

AI “art” is theft and I’m kind of disappointed by some opinions in this thread.

Rumour has it there’s a game attached to the character creator too, but they’ve yet to be verified.

Same rumours have been said about Skyrim, but nobody has been able to verify them

Not having checked the thread for a couple of hours;

WELL THEN.

In all seriousness though, it’s good to read through these replies and get different points of view on the topic at hand. The topic of using AI art as character reference specifically, as I’ve seen it becoming more and more popular in game. I’ve spoken with several people about this topic in the past, but there’s a difference between speaking about something with like-minded people and throwing a topic where anyone can reply.

I especially want to thank those of you who let the viewpoints argue, rather than getting into a personal argument. In important and even controversial topics it is extremely valuable to keep the discussion from finger-pointing, because that way someone might actually learn something about the discussion rather than get defensive.

Thumbs up for that.
