Alchemy is worth

…only for making potions to yourself or your guild. And this only in case your second profession is herbalism. Seriously, all elixirs or potions are MUCH cheaper than herbs you need to make them. But you can leave all this alchemy thing, picking up herbalism, sell the herbs and buy the potions. Then you have second profession free to choose.

That is what i plan to do: unlearn the alchemy :frowning:

Alchemy is awesome when you’re spamming keys. Flasks last twice as long, so you use one every two keys, rather than each key. That’s a whole lot of flasks saved!

And not having herbalism (who needs that when the Conservatory and Mission Tables supply me with more herbs I can use?) allows me to use Engineering as a second profession. Yay!

If you’re so little invested in your professions that you switches them frequently, then sure go for it.

The con is that If you ever get in the situation you need something from Alchemy and need to re-learn it, be aware that even Alchemy have grindy elements like legacy transmutes and such.

Also we do not know yet what 9.2 adds to the table in regards of professions, there might be some profitable transmutes or consumables coming.

I don’t know. Maybe it is better to pick mining as second profession instead. It is also safe bet. As i see raw materials sell well but end products not. It is devoid of real world economics.

PS: even profitable transmute would probably have daily cooldown.

I use alchemy+engineering. A quite solid combo, especially since I hate gathering. But you just cant get around the 2h flask duration, plus its cheaper to be able to make your own consumables.

not really.

you have people who buy mats to craft, they then sell the potions, you also have people who farm the mats and create potions.

the mats have demands across multiple professions, and as such there will always be a floor for those prices.

The market is winding down, people will have unsubbed over the last few months, many many more will have gone from progression to farm mode and as such there is a massively lower demand from people for the end product.

it’s simply a question of supply vs. demand. the value of alchemy will skyrocket, once people are back in progression mode.

And unlike crafting professions, alchemy stays relevant all the way through an expack.

Enchanting? How the mighty has fallen. Still too few slots to enchant, as well a far too liberal amount of epics to DE. There just is too many materials in circulation. Sure enchanting is a consumable producing profession like alchemy, but the replacement rate of enchants simply doesnt come close to the demand for alchemy items.
