Race is for roleplay and cosmetic reasons, there is no reason for not allowing all base classes for all races. Not allowing to play a certain class because of race is bs for the most part.
Exceptions could be when race/class was isolated from game world for too long, arent created anymore, like some allied races, dracthyr, DH, DK, though enough time has passed in game that some restrictions could be bypassed because some could be trained. Maybe make all previous expansion classes available to all races with limits on current expansion for story reasons.
All classes for all races, and Core Playable Races, like Vrykul, Ogre, Furbolg, Saberon, Arrakoa, Tuskarr, it’s been 19 years now, come on people at Blizz…
Some recolours would be great! That said I am really really looking forward to Shamans for everyone. Currently the Alliance can only have Draenei, Dwarf, and chubby Human shamans. Much inferior if you ask me compared to Trolls and Zandalari Trolls, and Orcs and Vulpera. AND Goblins
10%? That is HUGE % if it were true. I suspect your numbers are way out.
And, “player base”? Players can play ALL the races, or some, or horde and alliance etc
26 races, 52 combos if you consider male/female. Distributed equally there should be almost 2% of each of the combinations but no more, else there is bias.
If we go back to Classic, it is 10 races, so 20 combinations and 5% to be a particular race/sex. (or was it 4 + 4 races? I forget).
And some races came later in the game there can be “oldies” still clinging on to their ancient characters, so there will undoubtedly be some skewing towards “Vanilla” races.
Class/Race combo’s only ever mattered lorewise, regardless of wether it’s in shambles now, or not, I am all for being able to play whatever race I want with whatever class I wanna be.
THAT being said, We live in a time where Freedom of choice, has skyrocketed, and I’d even go so far as to say it’s gone to our heads.
It would seem that Humanity is not ready for that kind of freedom, Not that I want to impede on anyone’s freedom, but look at how crazy the world has become.
However, I do not believe, that restrictions for race/class combo’s count as racism… It is a fantasy game after all, and the ones setting the restrictions are Blizzard.
Their game, their rules. Don’t like it? Find some other game to play.
At least Blizzard are on their way to ending/lifting the class/race restrictions so freedom has once again, been victorious. Now we shall see if the playerbase can handle it.
Lore is important, no doubt about it, Lore makes the game more alive, lore gives the game a background, a story, a history, Lore breathes life into things that are just pixels on a screen.
If you ask me, gameplay > lore (WoW lore is an omnishambles by now, worst thing to do is let it dictate gameplay), let players use whatever race/class combinations they want, adventurers are pretty much per definitions outliers of their culture to begin with.
Also, within their respective factions, the races have intermingled to a very strong degree, members of every race have been in every of their faction’s cities for years now, decades n some cases, so it’s quite feasible in lore that an adventurer once thought “My society frowns on this path in life, but i want to do it anyway!”
